You didn's see the worst of it Erici!
These two, known as Cacans and Mussitans were in and out all night and
morning.
The only problem is that these idiots were bouncing us quirites also
so if there's an hour's wait which would be perfect, the quirites have
that also!!

Augustina Iulia Caesaria Nocturnia

PS I even chopped Cacans' head off but he wouldn't accept it and die!!

I HAVE forwarded all the info to Patricia Cassia, in hard copy no less, so

Salvete, Omnes!

Seems we've underestimated the Hoi Palloi on this one! We're now on phase two
of this chatroom experiment. I've upped the number of people required to boot
someone to FIVE people... and have raised the boot time to ten minutes. We'll
see what happens.

HOWEVER, the best solution is for Citizens just to use the "ignore" feature
when someone begins to disrupt the room. That is *truly* the only way to rend
these idiots powerless.

To ignore someone in the chatroom, just type a backslash and a small i, then
leave a space, and type in the person's handle EXACTLY as they've written it:
"/i Handle". The person you want to ignore will go away completely... even all
their prior messages will be deleted!!

This solution works perfectly. I just went to the chatroom myself, and was
able to cut off the heckler in the room instantly. Left him completely without
options!

Except that, as I understand it, THEY have the option to boot NOVA
ROMANS. Let's just hope they can't get 4 more idiots together!

Meanwhile...good solution!

Oh, and my apologies to Gaius Triumphius, but I still don't have the
Roman name on the MS Access database. In fact, there are a lot of you
for whom I have no ROMAN names -- probably because you don't have to
choose one right away. But if you didn't choose a Roman name when you
applied for Citizenship, but chose one later, please e-mail me with your
Roman and real-world names only (no entire applications, please!) and
I'll be happy to update the database. Thanks!

TEN minutes is NOT enough. One HOUR at Least. If They can get five folks in there,
after booting all the Romans they will be left in their own feces (the Anglo Saxon

You were Not there, Consul. The Ignore feature does NOT stop the *Action*
feature. They came through with that. Defecating on the floor (a cleaned up quote).

I say again, -- The Action feature is NOT effected by the Ignore feature. A glitch

The chat room is a very valuable resource to Nova Roma.
We talk over the politics and workings of the organization.
We get to know each other as people, even though we can not see each other.
Sometimes there are long gaps in the responses of the proper participants,
either through composition or dealing with life on the keyboard end of the link
.
The crap last night bounced NR out. I left before the scum used the official
protocols against our people, you can say I booted myself. I was not going to
stay up
for the sake of being entertainment for scum.

One Hour too long? Well, when scum take over the room We *are* booted
for that length of time, or longer. "They" shut it Down last night.
Is the chat room going to become like the streets of American cities?
Where decent citizens can not venture securely at night?
Being in a large group didn't help. Not the way the game was set up.

Myself and Patricia Cassia, specifically. We're the ones who have been trying

Hopefully not, but there IS a possibility. I hate to raise it more than that,
though... since there are not always five Citizens or more in the chatroom at
any given time.

If it's all right, Ericius, I'd like to try it with ten minutes for a couple
of days. That way if they DO get up five people, and start bumping Citizens,
we can always get back on within a reasonable amount of time... and use the
Ignore Feature.

I certainly was NOT there last night when most of the trouble was going on.
However, I did go into the chatroom this morning, and the same idiot was on
again. I put him on the Ignore feature, and he DID send in one quote with the
Action feature!

I simply typed in "/i his comment" (ignoring exactly what he had typed) and
his action feature dissapeared from the screen. I never acknowledged that it
had even reached me, and without a response from me he didn't try it a second
time.

If we first put these people on ignore, and then ignore a couple of Action
Feature comments with the same Ignore feature, it's not impossible that
they'll go away simply from lack of feedback. That moron certainly gave up the
ghost this morning!

> I say again, -- The Action feature is NOT effected by the Ignore feature. A
glitch
there, but, hey, it free. (Except we sure paid last night.)

Once again, if we ignore their Action Feature comments by using the same
command that we used to ignore them, we CAN get rid of these people.
Admittedly it would involve us having to type in the Ignore command two or
three times, but as you say - hey, it's free.

Seriously, we stopped these idiots cold this morning, and with any luck
they'll cease to be a problem. I

Nothing ever does!

The chat room IS a valuable resource within Nova Roma. This is why we'll
continue to work on the situation until it's fixed to the satisfaction of the
Citizens. Hopefully everyone will have patience with the process...

Well, now that we can use the Ignore feature, AND remove their Action Feature
attempts by the same method and without having to comment on them, it's likely
we'll be able to shut these disruptive idiots off.

Being in a large group didn't help. Not the way the game was set up.

If it's helpful, I DO offer my personal apologies to everyone who's chat was
disrupted yesterday evening. Since Patricia Cassia did recommend the Ignore
Feature as the first and best method of dealing with these people, we just
didn't go far enough with the boot feature options.

Since the Ignore feature does work, and we CAN ignore Action Feature comments
as well, the people disrupting the chat hopefully won't get enough
satisfaction to continue their games.

I do apologize...but I feel that I must respond to this post...since, I have probably been the most victimized person on the list. Yet, I still show my presence. Beginning earlier last week...I was threatened with physical harm in the chat room, with Agrippina Maria Glauca as a witness. Then, these "lurkers" began to use my name and MariusFimbria's name on the chat room...I then posted my concern to the list...the harassment did not cease and even continued until last nite...and well..I wont get into that...It has been reported to the Consul, regarding my concern. I feel that anyone has a right to their opinion..however, threatening physical harm, disruption of the conversation, insulting of the citizens...and general disrespect is something that should not be happening...and while it does..I try to tolerate as much of it as possibe...But..there are limits on toleration...and I reached mine after being threatened, disrespected as a person and as a citizen of Nova Roma, having my ancestory insulted (I have sued for such things in the past), and then having my dignitas impugned by having people imitate me in the chat room..talking as if I were the one talking. I've been having allot of trouble getting into the new chatroom-pert near impossible! But, I have been reading the various e-mails and reading the message board. So I am still up to date with Nova Roma's activities. One thing that bothers me is the apparent widespread panic over our 'visitors' that are or are not playing by the rules. The only response I hear is - boot them ! What are you, and you know who I am referring to, so dame afraid of , lies, truths or the reality that ones own artificial make believe world is suddenly crashing down on your meek and humble heads. You who say that these visitors are rude, racial and unintelligent are the first to dame Christianity and anything that doesn't follow your God-like perfect values. Oh! Some of you upset me to no end. Now which of you pomp and pious Romans wish to boot me? Reality is harsh. If you have the opportunity to do some traveling, I would advise you to do it. Don't just travel in the safe lilly white areas but venture into the more unsavory ones- than you might change some of your arrogant, pacifist and humanitarian beliefs. That is Reality!

Sulla, I was there once when your 'imitator' came in. Perhaps you'd
consider logging into Chat with a totally different name and post it
here, so we'll know it's you? Wish you didn't have to do it, though.
They used my name too, so I know how you feel. We get lots of new people
in the chat room, and I really hate for them to have to see this kind of
thing. Maybe the new room will help!

And as for you, Marconius...we usually don't use this list to air
personal grievances and rant against fellow citizens in public. If you
have a problem, why don't you take it to private e-mail?

"Not playing by the rules" is a bit of an understatement... these people have

>Oh! Some of you upset me to no end. Now which of you
pomp and pious Romans wish to boot me? Reality is harsh. If you have the
opportunity to do some traveling, I would advise you to do it. Don't just
travel
in the safe lilly white areas but venture into the more unsavory ones- than
you
might change some of your arrogant, pacifist and humanitarian beliefs. That
is
Reality!

I'm afraid that there has been some confusion here. There has been no debate
or difference of opinions with anyone. We've just had a problem, probably with
a couple of bored teenagers, with people posting nonsensical sexual and fecal
comments. Hardly "the system" having problems outside ideas.

"Reality" is that people should communicate like adults, even if they
disagree, rather than going onto a chatroom and posting nonsense.
