From: Claudia Aprica quinta_claudia_lucentia_aprica@--------
Salvete, quirites!
Yahoo!, in their infinite wisdom, have just seen fit to wipe my
e-mail address book for no immediately apparent reason. This means
that I now have _nobody's address_ at all, and have to start again
from scratch (Yahoo! will be hearing about this, incidentally).
I could go to the gentes page, and copy everybody's addresses
down onto a bit of paper, and then type them individually into my
address book. However, if anyone out there is feeling kind, it would
make the job of reconstituting my book a lot quicker if people could
mail me, preferably putting their full Nova Roman name in the text of
their message (you don't need to put anything else - I'll know what
it's about), and I can then add them automatically to my new book. I
like to have as many Nova Romans' addresses as possible, so this
invitation is open to anyone who's happy for me to have their address!
Sorry to be a pain, everyone, but I had 54 addresses in all, and
I can't tell you how annoyed I am about this!
Vos magnas gratias ago,
Q. Claudia Lucentia Aprica

Salvete, Omnes,
I'm pleased to announce that the Pontificial College has completed another of
the Priesthood votes.
The collegia has voted an enthusiastic and uninamous vote of YES for Marcus
Gladius Saevus to become an Auger within Nova Roma! Congratulations, Saevus!
:)
Saevus is charged with helping to maintain the bond between Nova Roma and the
Deities, through the taking of Auspices (interpreting signs and omens given by
the Gods). We have every confidence that he will do well and be a credit to
the position!
I hope that everyone will join me in welcoming Marcus Gladius Saevus to this
new role!

Wow! Deep Throat, Dick Nixon before he dicks us! Those bring back
memories. I remember wondering just who in the hell we were on patrol
for in the Arctic Ocean. That was a sad chapter in our history, and one
of the military groups that took it the hardest was the Submarine
Service. There is alot of pride in service in that outfit, and at the
time, that was about all we had to hang on to.
It's much like that today, for the serving members of the Armed Forces
who wanted very much to speak out against the stupidity of the President
but cannot because of a "gag order". It's nice to now someone who had
that privaledge.

Salvete Omni
It is with great pleasure and humbleness that I accept the position of Auger
for Nova Roma. I will make it my endeavor to interpret the will of our divine
caretakers for the betterment of our great nation to the best of my ability.
Both Saevus and I have already spoken about our committment to working
together in strengthening the College of Augers.
If I may speak for Saevus, our doors (or at least our e-mails) are always open
to all who may have questions or concerns.
I thank the Pontifical College for their vote of confidence and pledge myself
to the glory of Nova Roma and the will of the Olympians.

P.S. I've already been contacted by Dione Warwick who has inquired about the
establishment of an Auger Friends Network. I, of course, declined. Don't

Salve!
Well, in portuguese it sounds good... But Fabius Maximus told me that for an
english it sounds as 'I own the wealth of the people'. Of course that was
not my slogan, but a bad translation from the Latin ;) (remember I'm a
Roman). It would rather mean:
"I feel rich if the people is rich...!"
Hope this makes my intentions more clear =)! After all I'm a Republican.
Vale!

Salus et Fortuna Amethystia Ivnia Crystallina, Primus Ivnia Terrelina
and Lapis to be,
You are receiving from your fellow Roman the fruit of what you have
sown. In the genourosity, I have seen my opinion of Nova Roma and the
rightness of my own Citizenship confirmed. You have called us Friends.
I have always believed that Friends are a Family you choose. If you
perceive some value in what has been offered, it is only a reflection of
what is perceived by other Romans in you.
I believe that you are as much a valuable member of our joint endevour
as anyone. I am proud of the people who took time to extend a hand to a
newfound friend.
I know how hard times can make you feel alone, unwanted, a little dead
inside and powerless to effect change for the better. I have been
fortunate, though, to not reach the straits which you have so honestly
described to us.
Use the real friendship sent your way by our fellow Romans as a ladder.
(Your comment about the thawing in your heart shows you know this.)
Please remember, where a breathe of life exists, there is hope for a
better future.
May the Gods Bless Thee and Thine, here and in formation!
In Friendship, Venator

Salus et Fortuna Omnes, Salvete!
Sum Stephanus Ullerius Venator
- Paterfamilias Gens Ulleria
- Cives Plebian
I am new to the forms of Roman Politics, so mine will be an uninformed
statement of what I expect in the leadership of Nova Rome.
My Religion places a premium on the Virtue of Oath Keeping. So, I look
to the Consuls, Tribunes, Governors and others to keep Hold to the
Spirit as well as the Letter of the Oath of Office, and Campaign
Promises.
I place a premium on Communication as a Virtue. Let the People know
what the State and Government are doing and considering. Tell the People
what is expected of Them as Citizens. Gain Votes of Confidence and/or
Confirmation where needed.
I expect Prudence in action from my Leaders. Deliberation and Thought
for the Future should be Virtues applied here.
But, I also expect Boldness when the situation warrents. Our
Constitution (and I admit to no detailed knowledge here) should have
clear descriptions of the Officers of our Republic, but allow them room
to act without consulting the Senate or People, in defined emergencies,
but (of course) be liable to the Senate and People afterwards.
I expect my Leaders in these early years of the Re-Awakening of Roma
Antiqua to look to charting a course beyond that planned by the New
Founders. Every Child outgrows its Parents, Children of the Heart and
Mind more so than Children of the Body. (in re: the Founders of the
American Republic foreseeing where the Union is today, Diana Paxon
envisioing the SCA of today, Charles Babbage the computers of today, the
Greek Masters of Natural Philosophy the Electrical, Atomic and Chemical
Science of today...) The course of the Founders will get us out of the
Harbor and beyond the Shoals, newer Leaders will have to be deep water
Mariners.
I do not expect my Leaders to give me anything save a clear guide on how
I can contribute to Nova Roma. On how my Citizenship therein is of
value to my Life, beyond the obvious shared interest in Roman History,
Heritage and Culture.
I do not expect my Leaders to either approve or disapprove of my private
life and practices, save where my actions endanger the Republic and
Religio. I do expect guidance on what is acceptable Public behavior. In
a paraphrase of Cicero: summum iniuria, summa ius (the most justice, the
least law).
mea sententia---
One day I hope we can all gather for the dedication of a physical
Forum. When this occurs, for it shall if we are wise in our choosing of
Leaders to guide us, I propose a quotation from Horace: exegi monumentum
aere perennius (I have built a monument more lasting than bronze).
Then just down the street and around a corner, I'll build my Tavern

I shall continue to answer questions via e-mail and posts. I shall also

I must say that I find your Leader Guidelines quite complete and
well-stated. It is my intention, with your kind permission, to
reproduce these Gidelines and place them in the front of my Nova Roma
Folder.
I would further like to say that these or something very like them
should be at the fingertips of every member of the Nova Roma. They make
a good set of checks, both of the efforts of those elected or appointed
to positions of responsibility, and also as a set of Guidelines for good
citizenship. I'm not just sure how to do this properly, but I would
appeal to those in places of associated interest and responsibility to
review these guidelines as a set of Official Nova Roma Guidelines for
both Citizens and Office-holders.
In my own campaign for election to the positio of Quaestor, I can say no
better than these will be my Guidelines toward serving Nova Roma as I
may.

Honored Romans:
I take this opportunity to thank my honored Colleague Stephanus Ullerius
Venator for his most kind support of my application for a Military /
Civil Engineering and Cartographic Sodalis.
In my turn (being interested in the mysteries of creating and disposing
of Falerian Wine) I fully support his intention to propose a Sodalis
Coqueror (Brewing and Vinring Interest). I hope that the Consuls will
be amenable to both and to find in favor of the above listed Proposals.
As a Citizen standing for public office. I strongly support these
applications of interest which reflect our ancient culture. It is the
individual citizen who will support and bring to light through the love
of their interests, who will in large part again provide the strong
foundation of notable skills and effort that brought Rome to prominance
in ancient times. I ask for your support in the coming days to continue
our citizens excellent ideas, outstanding imagination, and tremendous
effort within out nation, Nova Roma!

No, Audens, that was the noble Lucius Equitius Cincinatus. I did my sea time in
what you submariners refer to, in your highly technical jargon, as a SJT (Slow
Juicy Target). I will never forget those four phosphorescent wakes, and you two
have caused them to come back to mind. [silly story, maybe at next Roman Days].

Well, don't be a stranger for all that! Without the SJT's we would have
been reduced to hunting other submarines, and that is really scary. It
sure separates the men from the boys when neither attacker knows where
the other guy is, and one wrong turn could bring you into ollission at
20 -30 fathoms! No, I like the SJT's and will stand a drink to any

Acer Salus et Bonum Fortuna Amicae Meus!
Marcus Municius Audens - Quintus Caecilius Metellus - Caius Aelius
Ericus
Such august commentors!
I am truly gratified that my attempt at putting feelings into words has
been well received. I am, perhaps, idealistic in my expectations. But,
we are attempting to cooperate in a Rebirth of something which straddled
its world like no Human Institution before or since, excepting perhaps
the spread of the Cult of the White Christ of Galilee.
I Pledge myself to assist in the Re-Awakening of Nova Roma.
Even though the Cultural Ancestors we will try to emulate in the New
City were bitter military and merchantile enemies of the Cultural
Ancestors of my Religion, the world is an huge place and we can have (in
Asatru terms) a Frithful relationship. The Religio and Asatru are
Faithful Cousins within the larger Indo-European Family, so I see no
modern reasons that I should not support the efforts of New Romans.
(The extremists at both ends of the spectrum in Asatru notwithstanding,
I do speak on behalf of my own Intellect and Conscious.)
Within the Asatru Faith I have declared my intention to be an ambassador
without portfolia between the several Communities with whom I have
contact. I shall always strive to be Well Come at Trading Post, Tavern
and Temple. I have been for most of my life a solitary Seeker.
Attempts long and long ago to contact "Organized" Heathenry failed, the
reasons were varied and have no bearing on this statement.
I have over the past three years again sought companionship. First
within the Asatru Groups and then beyond that to Faithful Cousins. I
have been well received thus far. I believe this is because I approach
with caution, courtesy and curiousity, and (hopefully) without
preconceived notions about what to expect. I am a visitor in
Communities that mean much more to the "permanent" inhabitants than,
admittedly, they do to me. At heart I am still a freeholder from just
beyond the edge of the settled areas. I do enjoy company, the more so
the older I get, which is every day.
Well, enough of the musings for now.
Audens, thank you, please do use my words if you find them of use. and
in reference to the Sodalis solidarity, I'll see what I can do about
re-creating a nice red, bold flavored Falerian for you.
Metellus, Bene Gratias, I'm sure my words pale in comparison to your
rhetoric. And if I should have inquiries, I shall contact you.
Ericus, I appreciate the compliment, but I promised Dex I wouldn't
announce my non-candidacy again. Though, I may be up to a postion as
district Vigil. (And those of Flamen Ullerus Privatus and Dominus
Sodalis Coqueror.)
And a last thought. I hope that this quote from Horace will not be
appropriate when our children and grandchildren look back upon our
efforts. "parturient montes, nascetur ridiculus mus" - Mountains were in
labor and a ridiculous mouse was born.
Ave Nova Rome! Ave the Holy ones of the North and of Rome! Ave the
