Salve, omnes!
This little phrase has been ponder by Man for Ages! No matter what media we are communicating through, whether it be via the phone, e-mail, or face-to-face, this problem will always plague us. Forgive and forget. I am sure that has been sometime when all of us have let are emotions get the best of us and not responded in the most diplomatic way.

I don't know what is historically accurate, but when I do finally get around
to putting together a tunic and toga, I plan to use a blue clavi sewn on both
sides. I like balance and I decided on blue to borrow from the SCA's Order of
the Blue Feather (an organization of Gay and Lesbian members of the SCA).
Just my 2 cents...I know it isn't the answer you're looking for.

I got all excited about this until I read it again. I thought it said
"GEEKS on the Appian Way." I could just picture Bill Gates in his
high-water toga, demonstrating Windows VII. And they STILL haven't
worked out the bugs.

Cool. Is there to be a regular chat schedule there? An agreed-upon time of
meeting? Sounds like an excellent idea.

Ah, school, those fine institutions of Academia. Bah! Schools these days...
Anyway, the point of this email is not ranting about school.
I am a sophomore in high school. We have done a bit of mythology and ancient
history. Little or nothing has been mentioned of Rome up to this point. Now
we are studying warfare, from Stone Age to modern times. We have a week to
create a presentation to present to the class. I specifically requested to
be allowed to present the age of metals, which is the bronze and Iron Age.
Sure enough I got my requested time period. Unfortunately when I went over
the information it was all related to Greece, not a word of Roma! In this
whole unit there is not a word relating to Roma! How could they forget Rome?
The civilization that conquered all of Europe, Egypt, and more! I expressed
my feelings about this lousy assignment to the teacher. I requested that
Rome share the spotlight along with Greece. Fortunately he agreed, to let me
do so (I guess being an A student yields some influence.)
Anyway, to cut to the chase, I would like your help in preaching (I mean
presenting! :D) about the superiority of the Roman military. All I am asking
for is links to websites that you recommend that have good military
information. Basically that's it, of course if someone wants to take the
time to type and share their personal knowledge, that would be greatly
appreciated, although I don't expect many of you to do that, so don't think
this is some sort of guilt trap.

Salve, L. Equitius.
Thank you very much for responding to my questions.
> Are you refering to Senatorial, civilian ,or military Tunics?
As I said, a civillian tunic. From what I've seen, military tunics didn't
have clavi. And, I'm neither a senator nor a member of the Ordo Equester.

Actually, I've read everything there, probably more than once. I've also
crawled over upwards of a dozen reenactment web pages and abused three books
almost to death. I've only found one source that actually shows the back of a
hamata (The Roman Legions Recreated in Colour Photographs, by Daniel
Peterson), and the Nova Roma and Legio XX pages are the only ones I've found
that even begin to talk about male fashion choices like clavi.

Salus et Fortuna Omnes, Salvete!
Having gone through the numerous post digests (being Asatru, I counted
1,2,3, many...) from the past week and a half, I breathe a sigh of
relief. The New City is still here.
My congratulations to all for surviving to a new birthday anniversary,
taking office, service in office the first year, ad infinitum...
I'm sad to see Crystal needed a break, glad the Marco. v. Fann. item
seems resolved, thinking of a new 'Eagle' article (add "Surtur's Blood"
to the backlog if you like F. Claudia), looking to complete the "Mead
Manuel," will submit my Oath of Office -Officially-, have an inquiry out
to a couple of contacts to find a U.S. distributor of currently made
Falernian wine, and so on...
Well Come to new Cives and 'Lurkers'...
May All the Holy Ones Bless Each and Everyone of You in this New Year!!!
