PLEASE, persons WHO ARE NOT INTERESTED by topics not strictly related to
Roman history TO DELETE this message right now, as I do not want to bore
them!!!

Thank you all for your replies to my note.

May be it would not be superfluous to explain why I sent the original
note to the list.

The main reason was that I do not correspond to any other discussion
forums or with any other Americans.
YOU are my ONLY fellows and friends abroad, YOUR opinion is interesting
for me.
There is no sence to discuss with my friends here as they know the same
as me and have the same opinion.

I do not want to change your opinion about this war or to ask you for
any actions.
NO, I just want to express this terrible feeling that have happend
something TERRIBLY EVEL in our world.
This is not an ordinary war, few bombs, discussions and a peace. This is
a damage to mankind history and moral.
For you this is just another one conflict area. You see the news, swith
off the TV and go on a walk. For us here it is our homeland and I know
personaly the places which are bombed now. I hear and understand (for my
great sorrow) what the yugoslavians talk on their radio stations. It is
not a joke, but war where dies human creations and which will longs many
years.
I only hope M.Mucius Scaevola Magister to be not right in his
comparatives and this evel war to finish as soon as possible as a
nightmare.
I only hope America to be again an example of moral, justice and hopes
for all of us here.

Valete

Alexander
P.S.I will accept, if the list Domina or the Censors will banish me from
the list or NR. It will be enough to send me a short note about.

Somebody could think I am an ugly nationalist, but I wonder what a
nationalist I am - Slovak, Bulgarian, Macedonian, Serbian, Hungarian,
Roman....?

Salvete Omnes, et Bona Fortuna Macedonicus,

The current discussion does have some relevance to our Micro-Nation. We
exist at the sufference of the Macro-Nations in which we reside. We have
Cives who are suffering. I have a friend in my Faith Community whose Wife
and Children were in Yugoslavia doing relief work when things heated up
again; he's not sure if they are safe yet.

Those of us in the U.S., and to some extent Canada, tend to be hesitate to
look at the broader world around us for its effects here at home. If we
have trouble looking at the broad issues, how comfortable will we be in
handling the smaller personal issues of Re-Awakening Rome in the Modern Host
Community?

Salve Venator,

With all due respect to the Quaestor, the relevance to Nova Roma that you
cite is still peripheral at best. As such, I suggest that the Back Alley is
a more proper venue for this topic. The NATO action in Jugoslavia is likely
to continue for weeks, if not months, and I doubt that most Novaromani would
care for this situation to be a principal topic of discussion on the Nova
Roma list for the duration. There are OTHER places to debate this!

Meanwhile, as an American with some Croatian ancestry, I am in the process
of responding to Macedonius privately.

Vale.

I have to agree with our esteemed Augur on this one. It struck a
particularly deep note with me because I could be making the widow's
walk if things get too much more involved. My darling love is a member
of the armed forces, and he has been watching these events with
trepidation since the call to mobilisation could come at any time for
him if things get to the point where ground troops are called for. I
sent him off to field maneuvers this morning wondering if he'll be
coming back. Think about that before you fire off general letters to the
Americans of Nova Roma.

Salve, Cypria.

Those who have served their country in the armed forces, and those whose
close family members and friends have served, know that feeling all too
well. Our prayers are with you and yours. May reason and compassion
prevail, and soon!

Subject: Etruscans
From: "Tinnekke Bebout" tinnekke@--------
Date: Sat, 27 Mar 1999 22:28:00 PST
Salvete Quirites,

I came across something interesting when I was researching some
information on Polish Easter egg dying techniques (My family is Polish,
so I thought it'd be cool.)

When I was studying Roman culture in schhol and throughout my Latin
classes, I always wondered what became of the Etruscan culture, and
everything I read left it assumed they had just died out or something.
Then I read in this text on Pre-Christian Polish culture something
unexpected. Apparently some scholars who were trying to find a modern
language with phonemes related to what they saw in Etruscan to help them
translate it, after trying various Mediterranean languages, decided to
try it against Polish and Slovenian, two Slavic languages, and came up
with a match. They also found some eleagic texts in which the Etruscans
referred to themselves as the Sluveni. Kinda neat.:) Thought Nova Roma
might be interested since the Etruscans were the Romans neighbors for so
long.
