I think what threw Novus was that the name was rendered in Italian...
For anyone who hasn't caught on yet, it's Romulus.

It's a sad thing that we don't have a Virgo Maxima. I did volunteer for the
position. I haven't heard back yet about it, so I self-dedicated to Vesta
without the title and have been tending a temple to Her every night. I
created the temple myself in my home. If the Pontifex et al decide to make
me Virgo Maxima I will be honored, if they choose not to, I will still serve
Vesta on my own and ask Her benedictions on Nova Roma.

Salvete.

Some of you have noted problems with the chatroom and bulletin board.
Beseen.com appears to have suffered a systemic failure. Even their hit
counters are affected. It's their problem, and they'll have to fix it.

Meanwhile, I am pleased to report that the Nova Roma Web Ring is growing
rapidly. There are now seven members, with four more in the queue. Five
members were required for us to be listed in the Webring.org directory. The
continued growth of the ring should increase traffic to all of the
constituent sites. Thanks and congratulations to all those who have joined
the ring.

Salvete, Lucina Iunia Cypria et alii
I thank you for your dedication on behalf of the Senate and People of
Nova Roma (SPQNR)
The Pontifices board, like all the other 'BeSeen' message boards has
gone down ( we can not even post new messages ) and all messages are
deleted. I hope that you will continue with your service and that the
situation will be sorted out very soon.

Valete, Flamen Martialis L Equitius

PS if you have or can take pictures of your temple/shrine they would be a
great addition to the website!

Speaking of paying tribute to roman gods and their religion...

What about lighting the fire? I remember reading about a fire in a sacred
temple (might have even been vesta but I forget) that was supposed to be lit
at all times and symbolized the life of Rome...

Salve,

you are right, the fire you think about is in deed the fire that was
burning in the temple of vesta .

a quote form the Imperial Forums page that Renato sent us:

As Italian nationals and as citizens
                   and administrators of Rome, we
have the mission of preserving and disseminating knowledge
of these records of the past. But this is not the heritage of a
single city or nation; it is the heritage of mankind.

"The heritage of mankind" Yep! That is what we've been saying for some time.

Ericius

post scriptum:
A curiosity prompted question for Sr. Renato. Do the family names of the modern natives
of Rome follow any of the patterns that the family names of some of the other geographical
regions of Italy are said to do? I have always had an interest in names. Grazie.

Ericius.
