Salvete omnes

Although it seemed a joke to me, this question is a very important one.
I thank Q. F. Maximus for having answered it seriously, I would say in a
military professional way. I have been reading a book of Captain Waine P.
Hughes on Fleet Tactics and the style indeed looked the same.

This is just to say that the nature of war is always changing. We are in the
era of the war of Information. To attack Communications is a way of
hampering Comand&Control or even politic decisions. Nova Roma is a nation
based almost exclusively on communications, and as such that will be the
target chosen by hostile groups of nations. This problem must be thought
seriously and Nova Roma should establish procedures -DOCTRINE- for wartime
scenarios. This menace cannot be overlooked. I think that Q. F. Maximus'
posting is a good start for the development of our defence.

Valete omnes,

Antonius Gryllus Graecus
Aedilis Plebis et Propraetor Lusitaniae

further developments on our defence capability be subjected to the strictest
confidentiality (encryption, password protection and transmission solely on
a "need to know" basis). Seriously. Why should we risk giving away sensitive
information to anyone who happens to be lurking on the Main List?

I should also like to suggest something the erudite Q. Fabius Maximus
omitted from his otherwise excellent contingency plan: the internment of
suspicious aliens at the outbreak of hostilities (purely as a precautionary
measure, you understand, but I think we all know who that could mean).

Now now, you know all the threats to the State are on the Back
Alley list!!!! The FBI and the CIA and all the acronym organizations
have all the addresses, phone numbers and personal data they
need on them.

Your memory fails you. When you asked to join and I asked your
age, you told me you were under 17 (the minimum age to join) and
I told you to let me know when you got to be 17 and we'd give it a
whirl. You will not find the list as it is unlisted and restricted.
Anyone who wants on can be on as long as they are 17 and agree
not to disclose what is shared there with every Tomus, Dickus and
Harrius around. This is because of problems in the past we have
encountered.

The Back Alley is, if you will permit me, like a cyber hangout. Our
members are free to vent, bitch, joke, and speak freely their minds
that which they may not feel comfy posting here. The Back Alley
is not associated in any way shape or form with NR. It is my
creation during one of many alienation periods with NR. Not every
member of the Back Alley is a member of NR.

Some say the Back Alley houses some sort of "Faction". This is
nonsense. I do not do politics. I just saw and reacted to the need
for a, well, maybe a Bathhouse of sorts. <G>

Getting put on and/or getting removed from my list is at the
discretion of the list owner (me). I may or may not warn you of
impending removal, I may or may not bounce it off of the other
members. Membership is completely confidential. I tell no one
who is on the list. I occasionally change the list name for security
purposes. The Back Alley is not exactly a democracy.

At one time I even invited a Senator to view the list archives to
dispel any rumors (it was a bad month for all of us). The Senator
declined, and took my word (which has always been good -- I think)
for the fact that the Back Alley was no threat to NR.

You hon, I would have to bounce you off of the list to see if you are
welcome. But be warned and be good!! I am assuming you have
had that birthday you were telling me about?

I would heartily second this for other reasons. To make plans to mess up
someone's computer system or Web site, even if done in retaliation,
probably constitutes conspiracy to commit a criminal act, at least in the
USA. I suggest we not plan to do this and instead rely on US law to
respond to any such cyberattack on NR. If you do plan retaliation,
however, it would be wise to do so in private.

As for planning the "internment" of _anybody_, no matter what the
circumstances, that sounds like a Federal crime -- kidnapping, illegal
detention. I suggest you drop that idea as well. If Nova Roma starts
planning criminal activities, the results could be worse than any
cyberattack.
