These sort of discussions do, occasionally , happen. You have joined at a
time when a particularly irritating kakodeamonos has reappeared to annoy us

Salve Gangalius et Hadji (whose name escapes me)
I hope my felloe Eastern Europeans will join me in a big sigh of relief that
things in Kosovo seem to be settling down at last. Ironic that yesterday was
the 85th anniversary of the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand, the
event that touched off WWI.

The translation is nearly complete. One article left to go, plus some

about Novaroma before joining. Subscribing to the email list seemed a
good way to begin.
I look forward to reading on!

Ave,
Anyone know where I can find a good pattern for Roman sandals? How about for
hobnail boots as worn by the legions?

Salve, P. Flavius: In case you find that the last website address doesn't
work, (I found it didn't work just now) here is an address that does work.
<a href="http://nav.webring.com/cgi-bin/navcgi?ring=classics;list;page=1" target="_top" >http://nav.webring.com/cgi-bin/navcgi?ring=classics;list;page=1</a>
On the page you will see a site to click on to go to the Roman Army sandals
site.
I hope you find that it's what you are looking for.

I also was hoping for some discussions on Roman thought and philosophy.

Hello, I too am a new citizen, and have been a bit baffled by all the odd
postings and distinct lack of gravitas amongst our citizenry. It takes all
sorts, I suppose.
I found Nova Roma thru my interest in Stoic philosophy. I am interested in
Stoicism as a practical philosophy to live by, over and above any academic
interest in merely the history of philosophy. Onelist has a Stoic Forum
which I joined awhile ago, and might interest you.
Also, I am in the early stages of opening a Onelist forum myself, for a
School of Stoic philosophy, where I would do my best to serve as Mentor, to
advise on reading material and to devise programs of practical and academic
study (such as writing essays).
Despite being a Stoic, I would be happy to discuss philosophy with any
followers of Epicurus, the other great School in the Roman period (well,
apart from the Christians). (I think there is a Onelist Epicurean list,
too.)
Read Seneca's _Letters from a Stoic_ Penguin Books.
Live with honour,
Lucius Gellius Severus

I am very glad to hear that one more peg will be drivenin this house we
are building. I want you to know that I both applaud your efforts and
appreciate your tenacity in staying with a task to completion. I think
your effort very worthy and very useful as well.
