I hope that you don't mind an occasional joke on this list. I thought that
it was funny. Someone has to tell a joke on this list once in a while, and
we all know that it won't be me.

Salvete Flavi Vedi et alii

It would be a good way to cut down on noise from me. I cannot access
newsgroups most of the time.

Another negative: since a lot of the political posts are not the ones that
we are most eager to show the world at large (ie, who's to blame for the
latest crises et cetera), maybe we should keep these here.

Maybe the most neutral sort of political announcements could be made on the
newsgroup, but I say, keep these more heated threads, like the recent one
between Iulianus and Cincinnatus, or mine and Vado's, here at home.

And I hope that edicta, decreta and the like are always posted here.

Salve,

As a supplement to the list, I think it isn't a bad idea. However, many
of our citizens would not be able to access it, such as those with webtv.
On this particular server I can't access that group either though I
haven't tried from my other server yet.

If you are thinking of a newsgroup, perhaps we could form one, such as
alt.micronations.novaroma. It would be a place where
general discussions could be held and also, as you say, a way to advertise
to the world.

I agree with G. Marius Merullus, however, that most of our political
writings and comments, especially during our more unpleasant periods, be
kept on the list.

I think that the only valid reason to have a NG is if we want imput from non

Since AOL does NOT have the alt.politics.micronations newsgroup available,
I'm quite opposed to this idea. Neither I nor anyone else with AOL would be
able to participate in legitimage NR dicsussions. There may be other browsers
that also can't get it... I'm thinking WebTV and the like.

Even if I could access this newsgroup, (to forstall all the folks who'll
promptly tell me to dump AOL and get a *real* browser) I'm not sure that
taking up most all the bandwidth on a "general" newsgroup would be
appreciated by others. Even if it's a low traffic newsgroup it must be used
by other Micronations... surely they wouldn't appreciate us deciding that its
*our* new second official board.

We should certainly post ads to this newsgroup, and it would be great to have
folks from Nova Roma participating in the "general" inter-Micronational
business that must surely go on there! Being a good neighbor and getting our
name out is however a bit different from co-opting a supposedly general forum
for our own use on a regular basis.

Salvete omnes,

I just wanted to bounce an idea of of you and take an informal poll. How

many people have access to the alt.politics.micronations newsgroup? Do
you
think that could be a valid alternative to the email list, at least for
the
more politically-oriented posts and such? (I'm thinking with a marker in
the
header such as NR or something.)

Alt.politics.micronations isn't a high-traffic newsgroup, but I think
everyone in the micronational community subscribes. Were we to start
posting
there, not only would we get a lot of publicity, but might invigorate a
forum for the whole intermicronational community.

Whatcha think?

Salvete,

After making the general announcement that AOL can't get the newsgroup
alt.politics.micronations, I figured "What the heck?" and tried subscribing
yet again. Naturally, it went through fine! :P

I've tried to subscribe several times over the past year since I've been
hoping to promote NR on that newsgroup... figures AOL would only make it
accessible only after I posted on the subject.

However, even though both AOL and WebTV apparently CAN get
alt.politics.micronations, it seems to me that posting too much NR business
to such a general forum will only annoy the Citizens of other Micronations.
Its possible that we can put such a forum to better use simply by
participating in whatever general discussions go on there, and answering the
questions about Nova Roma that are almost sure to pop up. ;) That and an
occasional shameless ad will probably be more helpful than co-opting most of
the bandwidth.

Valete,

Marcus Cassius Julianus

I think also putting regular discussions on pagan newsgroups related
to Roman polytheism could be a very good way to introduce Nova Roma to
others. Supplying information about the Gods, the mysteries, rituals,
various priesthoods, etc. etc. can only be a positive public relations
deal for us. Most people including the majority of the pagan community
really don't have a clue as to what Roman paganism is really about.
This also applies of course to writing select articles to other
pagan newsletters and other various subscriptions.

- Aha! Make the punishment fit the crime, you mean? I do admire the subtlety
of your thinking, Diomus, but I really think we should let it go. Nobody
deserves to be made a dictator!

Suits me -- I'm not interested in all the political posts, so it'd be nice
to have them elsewhere so I don't have to weed through everything.
