Salvete!

Strange, how the synchronicity is running... I had been thinking about the
same thing for a couple of days. Sorry to be a wet blanket, Luna & Aventina,
but I think I see two major problems with the idea:

I) there is no end of meditational and divinatory cards on the market
already (people seem to tend to use one for the other). 2) while things
Roman are not culturally popular, to have a competitive appeal these cards'
graphics would have to be really awesome, and the reproduction quality
superb (I assume we accept that we'd have to sell to the world at large to
make a profit). To meet such high standards, even with an initial production
run of - what? A modest 1,000 packs? would tie up a lot of capital with no
certain return of any sort on the investment.

However, to incorporate pictures of divinities (with acompanying
meditational guides, perhaps) in an almanac/diary, against the dates of
their respective festivals, strikes me as both more practicable (a saleable
almanac needs illustrations) and as a good way of enhancing the utility
value of such a publication.

By way of an afterthought, keeping such a book unspecific to any one year
(so as to make it a book of days, leaving out the astrological ephemereis
and the date each day of the week falls on)means it won't go out of date and
so become a financial dead albatross.

And I have to agree with Luna Ovidia - the idea of a Roman Tarot pack
horrifies me - picture it:

Hmmm. Ace of Fasces crosses the Querant's Significator, which is Virgil...
now the Circus Maximus crowns him, but it's inverted... hmmm.... I'd better
look that one up in the book....

Imagine! What next!? Roman Augury Cards! Haruspex Liver Cards...?

Valete bene in omnibus,

Vado.

To who it may concern <G>,

We have been moving all the little things into the new house and
got the call this morning that we will be able to move in the next
day or so. I will not be changing my email settings, but I will be
deleting like a mad woman when we get back online (the phone
hasn't been transferred yet) so if you have anything you really want
me to read/know/see I would put either "Crys", "Don" or something
like that in the subject line. If not it will in all likelihood be deleted.

For the Nova Romans -- could someone please email me privately
and let me know what the election results are if I don't manage to
get back before it is decided?

Rose -- Been there, done that and I don't blame you one bit.

1PP members -- be good. List Mama isn't around, but Big Brother
is watching <G>. Keep it less than covered in mud (I know clean
is pushing it <G>).

Fortunatus -- I'll get the info up, but if you get around to the picture
send it to MaNPaRoman (less likely to get deleted there <G>).

I think that about covers everything (it had better <G>).

Pack, I... I... mean Pax, Crys (signing off)

Does anyone in Nova Roma have any ideas where I can get som Roman
Clip=-Art packages or just pictures and black line drawings of things
which define Rome?

I am currently involved in a project where such would be a valuable
resource, as well as Roman Fonts.

I thank you for your consideration of this message.

Wait a minute! Are you saying that I'm not a "real"
historian? I do happen to TEACH history at a major
university, and I have a degree in history from a
major university (currently ranked 4th in the nation),
and I HAVE published several articles on both the
Roman Republic and medieval England in major, top
historical journals. Unlike some on this list, I
happen to BE a REAL historian!

Well, I am brought by the lee again, and because of a proffered
compliment as well!!

I was referring to myself as somthng less thnn a real historian, as
have always referred to myself on this net, "just a student of Roman
History." too have both a Bachelor's and Master's Degree in Education
and Histroy, but not spcializing in Ancient Histroy. I could have
probably inserted te word "othere" between some and historian in my
previos post to make things clearer, and for that omission I beg your
pardon.. I have only the greatest admiration for those ladies and
gentlemen who instruct in our institutions of higher learning, as I have
some small aquaintance with the requirements of such.

The original purpose of my post was to offer to do a project which I
could do here in my home and community, which I surmised would b of
interest to myself and to other students of history as well as myself.
You have in turn, for your own reasons have chosen to withold permission
for me to publish such (I do not criticize your decision) so that
project must wait for another place, person, and day.

It has never been my intention to anger you, but rather to answer your
questions. Apparently you do not see things in that light, so having
apologized for a misunderstanding which has concerned you deeply,I will
withdrw from the field. Any further communicaton responses from me
will be private.
