Let me also extend my congratulations to Marcus Minucius Audens for his
victory in the race for praetor! He is now a praetor. According to the Lex
Vedia Senatoria he is also automatically a member of the Senate. Welcome
to the Senate Marcus Minucius Audens!

My congratulations to both Audens and Quintus Fabius Maximus for running
a clean campaign that focused on the isssues! For that alone you have
earned the thanks of Nova Roma.

I am gratified that the laws that Sulla and I put before you the
citizens were passed and that you thought them worthy of your stamp of
approval. My thanks to all citizens who voted in this election.

Valete,

Decius Iunius Palladius,
Conusl of Nova Roma

Salvete Civies

As many of you know....BeSeen is down again. I would like to try to
have Nova Roma get another chatroom that is more reliable, stable and
more user friendly than BeSeen. If anyone has any preference or idea,
please let me know. As one who frequents the chat room, I would really
like to get this resolved quickly. So far here are the only
requirements that I would like to see:

Very minimal down time;
We all can see everyone who is in the chat room;
and a more real time chat

Thank you for your particiption!

Well....Dex? Can you use an IRC chat....What are the computer limitations
for such a program...I know there are some individuals who have 286 and 386
Computers? Also, how do we create a room....and what about Ops? For the
room...Moderators? Does anyone else want to have an IRC based chat room?

If they have that kind of computer, their computer will SUFFER with the Java
chat, and perhaps do much better with IRC.

Java is a very slow, bulky language. Even on my 333MHz computer, it can be
annoyingly slow.

My only specalized languge is that of the Naval Lower Deck, and I try
not to use it on the net any more than absolutely necessary because most
people do not understand it. As a result I do not understand some of
the initials tat are being used. May I ask someone to explain IRC it's
faults, it's up-side and why we have not considered it before this.

Salve Audens...and Congrats on your election win!

IRC = Internet Relay Chat

It is a chat based conversation that is very live, you can access it via
various servers called Undernet and there are many other servers. I used to
go into #highlander, #philosophy and #history. Those are Rooms (channels)
that you can go into. If we decide to have that, we can have Bots, Ops and
other administrative personal maintaining the room against Trolls or any
other disruptive users. IRC can be accessed through various programs such
as MIRC, Pirch or a variety of other programs. Hope this helps....Granted
there is alot more information...but this is just a start.

Salvete!

I'm the 386...and, yes, I can do IRC just fine. I downloaded
the 16-bit version of mIRC about four months ago and, other than
the usual get-new-software-to-play-nicely-with-the-established-stuff
adjustments, I have not experienced anything you'd really call
'trouble' with it.

Keep in mind that the Internet came into being back when a 286
would have been considered a Tool for World Conquest (oops--should
know better than to say that around a bunch of Romans [g])...there's
a lot of stuff still out there for us retro-computists! >({|;-)
