Just in case anyone has not heard about the plans.

Marcus Audens

Fair Winds and Following Seas!!!

In answer to your query about the Uxbridge Gathering; it is my
understanding that Palladius will try to attend, and if he can make it
will stay with a friend in Springfield Mass and will commute the 6O+
miles to the motel.

Ovidia and I will do the same.

Merrullus and family will try to come down and stay at the motel and you
and Cassia and your guest will do likewise. We need someone who is
staying at the motel to make arrangements for the conference room and
act as a contact point / person. There has not been a lot of
independent discussion about the program as it will be pretty much
informal

The program is to be very informal with getting to know each other,
perhaps one "picnic" meal (lunch-Sat) and two restaurant meals
(Supper-Sat., and Break. Sun.) Merrullus and I may have some things to
discuss regarding the Certificates, Eagle, and some other various topics
which may come up. I would like to see some of the pictures of the
flags and coins you have been working on. Other areas of interest I am
sure will surface.

Hopefully, this will occur on the 11-12 of December. The information
for the motel has been sent out to the onelist. I have recieved no
confirmation from anyone save myself, so I cannot speak to that aspect.

I hope that everyone will be able to make it who can. All NR members
are welcome to join us.
If you need any further informaton please do not hesitate to ask.

In regard to Eagle, will you have the extra 15 copies of the last issue
(October) for me soon or should I have them done locally? I have sent
the proofs for the next issue of the Eagle to you for reproduction and
your additions. I will need 55 copies of the November Issue.

Respectfully;
Marcus Minucius Audens

I don't think we have one right now. Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay long time
ago, when I first became a Citizen, I'd suggested 'Pax Deorum' by Enya
(from her album _Memory of Trees_); it's in Latin, it has a kind of
thundering magnificence to it, and the title's appropriate.

Has anyone else been keeping their ears pricked for something that
might fit?

There is of course, no reason not to have an Anthem, except that
occasions to play it have not been all that available. That aside, it
would be a valuable exercise to gather some titles that might be
suitable to generate some interest in the project. The words would have
to be copied and submitted or perhaps new words be generated for
existing music. If there is a music composer among us perhaps something
original could be worked up.

However the music and words would come together, it is an interesting
idea. Does anyone else have a favorite piece of music that might be
suitable as a natonal anthem.

Oldies but goodies might be the :

--Battle Hymn of the Republic;
--Columbia, Gem of the Ocean;
--Garryowen;
--Bonny Dundee;

New words, of course, would be required, but the thrill of those music
pieces never ceases to move me There are some additional British and
German military marches which are also quite stirring.

I'm not familiar with this one. I don't know who "Enya" is. "Thundering
Magnificence" sounds apropos for Roma. It being in Latin is very good. But
I don't know what it sounds like, nor do I know what the words are. These
show some problems we'd have with getting an anthem, but no reason not to
think about NOva Roma music, including an anthem. There is no rush. The
infamous U.S.A. [VBEG] did not have an ** Official ** national anthem until
President Franklin Delano Roosevelt got the Congress to vote on the current
one. Up until that time various patriotic/appropriate tunes were used as
they fitted the musical senses of the times. So, using that time frame as a
single reference, we have another 140 years to settle on something.

Gaudeamus Igitur is a well known tune. Perhaps it would be easy to fit some
words to it.
"Nova Roma is the one
We have put our hopes upon
..."

Or maybe the we can use the opening tune to Karl Orff's "Carmina Burana".
That would get people's attention! Or that can be adapted for our
military. [Please engage sense of humor and reread if the previous was
upsetting to you.]

Popular aren't you??? Actually I would like to plan a provincial meeting
four times a year for the NE in rotating spots that we could plan ahead.
We realy haven't got that far long yet due to:

--finances;
--travel time;
--previous commitment;
--program.

The thing that I think we might do is perhaps to choose some
interlinking spots in each province one of which at least is centrally
internal to the province and one of which is central to both itself and
a nieghboring province. For instance in the Northeast Province we are
attempting to set up an internal meeting (Uxbridge, Mass). The next
meeting might be set up on the border of the Southeast Province
(somewhere around New York or Northern New Jersey) and set up a meeting
at predetermined times a year ahead of time that would be possible for
people from both provinces to attend.

In order for that to work we need a place to meet, and sleeping
facilties near-by. Those seem to be the first things that we must
arrange. Until someone begins working on something like that, we are
not going to have much success.

Several other very stirring ideas for anthems are Rimsky-Korsakov's
"Procession of the Nobles" and Respighi's "Pines of the Appian Way".

We could always try:

---On Wisconsin!
---Hail Hail for Old Notre Dame!
---that annoying piece used by the USC Trojans

or maybe something more of the flavor of Italia, like
"That's Amore!" ......

Or
--"Avanti Populo!"
--"Bella Ciao!"on the Italian side. Or we could go international with the
"Internationale!"
More seriously, we could look at a more serious tune. The words would have
to be wholely original, for the most part. I do not think we should have
something that vividly calls to mind something jarring, like "the Halls of
Montezuma" or "Blaue Donau" or "Kimi Ga Yo Wa".

By the way, Audens et al., I found a "Roman" tune to "Garryowen". It scans
pretty well. If I relocate the link I'll send it on.

I found that site.
The melody is "the Garyowen".
In ref. te Chorus; the last line "We sail with Danno for glory!"
I substitute "We sail with Agrippa for glory!"
But one can insert what ever name one wishes.
One could use "Marcus" and cover a lot of Romans. =({[;-)
