Actually, we *do* have a motto, a product of the discussion about coins
and stamps last Spring: it's 'ROMA RESURGENS'--'Rome Reborn' or 'Rome
Arises Again'. As to the anthem, we have not 'failed to create' one;
we're simply still discussing it. (The last time this came up,
somebody pointed out that the United States did not have an anthem
until the War of 1812...and it wasn't officially adopted for several
decades after that; and there's *still* talk of changing it to 'America
the Beautiful'!)

I was re-reading the NR webpage. It states:

The centerpiece of the activities of NOVA ROMA is the Religio
Romana; the ancient faith of
the people of Rome. Both the household religion
and the so-called State religion are vital to
the Religio Romana, and both are represented in
the practices of NOVA ROMA. Our
long-term goal is the restoration of the ancient priestly Collegiae
and the honoring of the full cycle of Roman holidays
throughout the year. For now, we must make do with a schedule
that is practical and the training of individuals who wish to
take up the sacred offices.

I thought it was the rebuilding of ancient rome. I don't think it has
changed. Has it? I can't remember WHAT it said a year ago, truth
be told.

There are indeed parties in Nova Roma. I confess I'm belong to one (of
course I won't reveal the identities of my fellows =)). In ancient Rome,
parties were more like 'brotherhoods' of magistrates. Take as an example the
Populares and Optimates. They would simply strive to put their own men in
the key political places. Nothing wrong about that if they are competent and
respect the Constitution, right?

Salve, Artem Kouziminykh;

I beg leave to correct you. We have not "failed" at coming to an
anthem. It is an on-going discussion, and not one which is even close
to being consigned to failure.

Nova Roma IS a counrty, in both spirit and in actuality. We don't have
some of the problems relating to a country having physical boundaries to
protect or internal problems of certain kinds, it is true. However , we
have unique problems and we have the interest and willingness of some
very good people to channel, appreciate and to utilize. Your negative
comments about something with which you are self-admittedly still
inquiring about are neither enlightenig nor are they needed.

You are most welcome here, to learn and to share, but perhaps it would
be better to temper your comments with some thought and insight about
how those comments might effect those whom have worked long and hard for
what NR is, what it stands for, and what its hopes are for the future,
before you release them for general consumption.

Well said. We need parties about as much as we need a Minister of Defense,
or a NR equivalent of NASA.

We already have differences of opinion among citizens, even extending into
the magistrates and senators. I see no need to formalize antagonism.

It is interesting that you include taxes in the list of things that need not
concern us. Most magistrates and senators happen to be for instituting
taxes in NR.

>Here in NR in fact we all try to improve our Republic, we all go over the
same way: this also happens in all countries of the world (at least it
should be this way...), where the parties work for the well of their nation,
even if with different point of views; but we've to consider (as I said TOO
many times) that NR it isn't a real nation, and consequently our tasks and
objectives are not the same of a real nation. This because is obviously
IMPOSSIBLE to realize some of the things that a real nation makes: for
example we'd never have to carry about unemployment, pollution, taxes (!!!)
nor every other problems of a real nation (and this is probably a luck!).
Even parties then wouldn't have the same fundamental role they have in our
mother-countries: or would you image in NR a democratic party defending
> the working-class, the welfare state and fighting for their rights, and a
republican party tending to protect the high-class? This is unreal in NR:
and above all, we already have tribuni plebis and adiles plebis that protect
plebeians.
>Then there's another important thing: NR is not a form of direct democracy,
but we are very close at it: in these election we are voting for laws
DIRECTLY, the choice is ours, we're not represented in this voting by none,
as it happens in democratical countries: then what would be the role of
these parties in NR? That is why I can't see the benefit of parties in Nova
Roma at the moment; maybe in future we'll need of those, but, frankly, I
don't really see this necessity.

Actually, Tolkien relied mainly on Anglo-Saxon. A lovely language.
He did corrupt the spelling a bit, but most of it is recognizable.

Umm, Sarmatia sounds good... It can also be Hyperborea as well, though I
know it's Greek word, not Latin, but a number of Greek words were used in
Roman Provinces' names, I believe... 'Russia' is also a bit Latin'looking
word, isn't it? There was also a Province called 'Pontus & Bythinium', I
believe, in Black Sea region...

Salve,

I didn't meant any 'negative comments', sorry if they look 'negative'. I
wrote 'failed' because I didn't see any traces of an 'on'going' discussion
concerning anthem last few days (weeks?) in this list... Anyway, I was
misunderstood, sorry.

I too think the parties (political ones;-)) are already existing in NR. One
can just look at last-few-months list's archives to see that some _groups_
of citizens with very different political views indeed exist in NR - I
believe they may be considered as parties.

As for thiers purposes, they can be: a propoganda pro et contra certain
Leges and supporting their candidates during various election campaigns.
