I quite agree. I felt it meant we celebrate most of the middle republic's
feasts and holidays, with the Celtic gods and goddesses left off as well.
since they are early principate.

Curiouser indeed! I just noticed that all the posts I've received from
the Senate traffic since the first of the year have been dated in
November 1944.
Methinks we didn't get through "Y2K" quite as scot-free as some have
announced.

Science and Classical Religion and Philosophy meet in the 21st century |

Salvete Merulle et omnes
First of all, I'd like to decline my position with regard to the action of
the Gods in the Physical World, as well as the role of offering and
sacrifice. Merullo, you were right. Physical actions have results in the
Divine World as well as actions in the Divine World have results in the
Physical World.
That was what Plato said and he was right. In fact, the theories of Plato,
Aristotle, Zeno, Epicurus and their followers, each describes a part of the
Cosmology, of our Universe. They are all right as seen from different
perspectives. Moreover, as the Neoplatonists defended, those Philosophies
simply formalize the very same idea transmitted through Ancient Religion,
and I include here the religion of the Nazarene (in fact Christianity would
be pagan if not for politics and its sense of rejection of the other
religions). Yes, all religions say the same... And the most spectacular is
that they say the same as modern Science says. This can lay the ground for
the development of Modern Neo-Classical Philosophy, which is not and
adaptation but instead an evolution and continuation of Classical
Philosophy.
Plato said that the Physical World was the mirror of the Intelligible,
invisible World. Modern Quantic Physics state that for each sensed positive
particle, there must be an invisible negative particle that is its mirror.
More! It was also discovered mathmatically that an action performed over the
positive particle must affect the negative particle, no matter the distance
between them. The opposite is also true. It is if there was some form of
communication in another dimension... Or if there was a Conscience! This is
just an example! Theoretical Physics have mathmatically discovered that
Energy and anti-Energy can be also a reality.
A very useful mathmatical tool is nowdays the Caos Theory. Fractal models
allow scientists to study complex phenomena such as weather behaviour,
electromagnetic waves of the brain, etc. What is a fractal? A fractal is an
infinite repetition of a pattern starting in the highest dimension. Imagine
a box with 4 smaller boxes inside. Imagine that each of these boxes have
four smaller boxes inside, and so on until the infinite. That is a fractal.
The form of a tree with branches progressively smaller is also a fractal. In
summary, complex nature tends to present fractal stucture. Isn't this pure
Platonism where a pattern at the highest dimension is repeated in its images
through the lower dimensions? Aren't the planetary orbits repeated in
subatomic particles? Some Greek athomist philosopher (Democritus?) said that
the Universe is composed of orbits. Everything orbitates from the cellestial
spheres to man, animals and plants... And to athoms! And in fact some modern
Astronomers say that our Universe may be inside another bigger Universe, and
so on until the Infinite!
The Big-Bang theory of modern Astronomy and Physics! Some Physicians say
that the Big-Bang is cyclic and that the Universe continually expands and
contracts. What is this other than the cyclic Universal Conflagration and
passing of Ages of the Stoics and Classical Religion?
As you can see, Religion, Philosophy and Science, all say the same Truth in
a different language. The Neoplatonists were right.
