Salve, Pontiff Ericius;

I thank you for this further illumination of the Amburbium. I am most
appreciative of your efforts to enlighten myself and the Citizens of
Nova Roma in this way. I should welcme any and all such assstance in
religious matters as we move through the coming year. It is my desire
to bring together the secular and religious aspects of Nova Roma into a
more specific and auspicious jnction than has been attempted in the
past, and for this intent it will be necessary to be guided by the
College of Pontiffs.

On behalf of the people of Nova Roma I render to the Collegia of
Pontiffs my appreciation for your help in my endeavors and the deep
respect that I have for your beliefs.

Vale, Respectfully;
Marcus Minucius Audens
Consul

Salve Flavius Vedius Germancius et Lucius Cornelius Sulla Felix,

<< When choosing a nomen, try to avoid names that are merely Latinized
versions of your own name, especially ones that do not Latinize well.
Examples of names such as these are Thompsonus >>

That got a little much to personal there... I chose the name Thompsonus
because the "existing gentes" webpage was not constructed so I had no way of
knowing which gentes I could ask permission to join, and then join. And I
also chose the name Thompsonus after reading this portion of the Nova Roma
website:

<<The Nomen - The nomen is the name of the gens, or family. In Nova Roman
society, each gens bears a unique name, such as Vedius, Iulius, Cornelius,
Domitius, Livius, Marius, etc. Since the number of historical Roman gentes
known to us is limited, reasonable gens names will normally be accepted by
the censors, who are the final arbiters of the admission of new gentes into
the Republic. >>

And so my name was accepted, I personally hope that you will not dishonor my
familia again in this way.

Vale in pace,

Iulius Thompsonus

Faber est suae quisque fortunae.

Avete Omnes!

Venator scripsit:

The Amburium declared for XI February meshes nicely with the Holy Days
in mine own Religio Septentrionals:

In our calender we term the month Horning. IIRC (If I Recall Correctly)
this is in recognition that the stags are dropping their antlers (horns)
after the mating season is over and done.

The Festival of Barri on the 2nd - wherein we celebrate the wooing of
the Maiden Gerd by the God Frey, a symbolic marriage of the feritile
Earth with the fertilizing God. It is festival to help insure the
fertility of field and plant. Celebrate with libations to the Holy Ones
and by making starting flats with seeds to have plants for the garden
come spring.

A Day of Rememberence for Eyvind Kinriffi on the 9th: Executed by order
of King Olaf Trggvason (Norway) for the crime of holding to his Troth
(Faith and Loyalty) to the Holy Aesir and Vanir. The means of death was
a bowl of burning embers placed on Eyvind's stomach. A good day to
reflect on how much damage has been caused by forcing compliance
throughout history. Light a fire for freedom and lift a libation to
Eyvind, and all other such resisters of good faith.

The Feast of Vali on the 14th: A celebration of the slaying of Hodr by
Vali, in revenge for Balder's killing - an analogy for the triumph of
Light over Darkness. In gather the family and loved ones, celebrate
life and affection. Have a good meal, tell stories, laugh, sing, give
little handmade gifts, renew wedding vows, hold first weddings.

Offered in Amicus - Venator

Salutem!

During a very brief visit to the Chat Room tonight, whilst in a state of
refined intoxication, I was dimly aware of one 'Pontificus Maximus' talking
to a lady called Octavia about a school project on Romans around Hadrian's
Wall for eventual inclusion in the Millennium Dome. It seems the gentleman
wanted historical Roman names for the period.

Much as I disapprove of the Millennium Dome and all it stands for, there's
nothing I won't do to assist a paedagogus and his charges concerning
instruction in things that really matter... so if the gentleman would care
to contact me, I have a collection of transcripts of private correspondence
and votive inscriptions from Vindolanda and environs, with plenty of period
names.

Valete bene,

Vado (still in a state of refined intoxication).

Salve, Consul M. Minucius Audens.

I place myself at your service in whatever ways I my be of aid.
Only limited by the demands of the world, as fickle as they seem at
times.
I believe, and have believed from our early meetings, that you have
the
best interests of Nova Roma and Roma Immortalis Aeterna in the
forefront of you thoughts. If I can't help I'll try and find someone
who can.
If you don't understand my strange form of language, I will ask my
wife
to help me translate the Erician into passable English. If more
people shared
the respect you have for the beliefs of others there would be less
trouble
in the world, much less Nova Roma.

Bene Vale,
C. Aelius Ericius
Augur et Pontifex
Senator

At a guess... maybe it is from refined spirits. Gin, whisky,
isopropyl?
