Salvete Omnes
Many of you have e-mailed me privately regarding the Century Point
totals. No one knows more than I, just how inaccurate they are
currently. In an effort to keep you informed I am letting everyone know
that the century point revisions are going to be tackled probably around
the first few weeks in February. I have enlisted the help of Ex-Censor
and Consular Decius Iunius Palladius Invictus who will be formally
listed as a Censorial Scribe. With his assistance I believe that my
scribes and I should be able to begin work in February.
Why the delay? Well simple. There are about 60 citizens whose
applications are essentially not complete. They could have a plethora
of problems such as incorrect Roman Names (or no Roman names), incorrect
Gens affiliation (or no Gens affiliation), no way of contacting them, no
legal name listed and so on and so forth. I am doing my best to get
some of that corrected and I have even sent to my Censorial colleague 3
proposed Censor Edicts to help elevate this issue.
I am also working on getting the Album Gentium sent to Gn. Tarquinus
Caesar so he could post that. Granted it will be the old one till I get
some issues straightened out but at least it will be up there and
available for our citizens and especially for our potential citizens.
That to date is what I am currently working on.
Also, if you have any information that needs to be corrected, please
e-mail ce--------s@--------. Here are thi--------we -------- to keep curre--------br>

Salvete, Quiriti!
I would just like to express my gratification at seeing the divine Augustus
replaced by a rather more senior deity on the front page of the NR website.
Not to wish to say anything derogatory about Divus Augustus publicly (he
was, I admit, in his time the best emperor Roma had ever had 'til then),
but... Ianus is the perfect choice, in my view: he's wholly Roman, born to
the purple of divinity as you might say, and - of course - presides over
beginnings and entries. What could be better?
My grateful thanks to whoever put the Lord Ianus where he deserves to be!
Pace deorum,
N. Moravius Vado.

The points that are there are "interesting", though I've not really
bothered to work withthe formula to double check the silly things. In
life I've found that such systems are run
as honestly as they are intended to be. L. Cornelius Sulla is putting
in a great deal of
work, and time, so I figure he will make the final total as accurate
as he is able to.
One question. I had the impression that the points did not
continually accrue over
time. That is to say the points one had from "stuff" two years ago
(if the system had
been around then) would not be added in for the next total of points.
How far off is this
understanding?

I would probably be draconian if I were in your seat, Sulla.
Incorrectly, or incompletely filledout forms get sent back for
correction. If anybody does not resubmit their application, they
do not make the cut. Someone who does not give their legal name would
be very bad in my
view. I might just discard that as being a spoiled application, but
it would be more "fair" to
ask them to correct the problem.
If someone has not given a way that they may be contacted, I would
stick the form into a
holding folder that would be held for some reasonable period before
being discarded.
I trust Sulla in this. He has deleted some of the members of his own
gens. Yet I'm sure
he will keep some names on the cives list that are actually long gone.
Erring on the side of caution. Eh? Bene....

Again I wish to thank Gn. Tarquinius Caesar and L. Cornelius Sulla for
getting those lists up.They are a useful tool. Even in their out of
date state.

Well according to the database there are point totals that go as far back as
when you became a citizen. But primarily the main points are granted to
serving magistrates and priests. However you do get some points if you
served in the past. :)

Well I am kinda getting a bit Draconian myself. I have sent e-mails to
ex-Censors and my colleage and the Consuls informing of the number of
citizens who do not have problems currently. Based upon the 394 Citizen
entries that are currently on the database. The difference is a discrepency
of around 80 entries. Once all of my scribes are back from vacations and
such one will be strictly devoted to trying to clean that issue up. :)

For now yes.....I have only deleted known citizens who have proclaimed they
have left...and I have cleaned out 3 civies in my gens for inactivity,
failure to responsd, and 1 who resigned a while ago but was still on the
roles.

Salvete,
Personally, I have always found this particular representation of Ianvs (from
an old 18th century engraving I believe) to be particularly unlovely. Using
an image of the God of Doorways is good symbolism to be sure... even if
perhaps not one that's recognizable to everyone, especially new folks
checking out Nova Roma for the first time.
At the least, I'd be happier to see a better image of Ianvs than this one.
Perhaps there's a good image of real Classical statue out there somewhere?
The old woodcuts have always symbolized the old Victorian views of Rome to me
- stodgy antiquarians promoting the idea that Rome fell because of too much
vice and paganism, and all that!
However, I heartily applaud our new webmaster, Gnaeus Tarquinius Caesar, for
trying new stuff, and taking the time to put work in on the site! Even though
I'm not for this one change it's great to have someone doing updating and
putting effort into the place. I hope that he, (and everyone else) will take
this message as simply a vote of opinion and not a critique of Caesar's work!

Salve, Nicolaus! I often wondered why Augustus Caesar was welcoming
visitors to the republican NovaRoma website....although an excellent
administrator, he was definitely not a republican. He can't even be
appreciated as a Republican Deity because he was not deified until after his
death. But, being a new kid on the block, I didn't want to render an
unsolicited opinion.Ianus is definitely more appropriate. In general, the
central web site in my opinion is very well done!!! Vale, Pompeia Cornelia

Salvete,
As Pontifex Maximus, I call the College of Lictors to order so that Imperium
may be granted to our newly elected Magistrates for this year.
I ask that all Lictors Email me at: cassius@-------- for i--------matio--------
the investment of Imperium. As we've seen, the legal basics of this process
are simple, so there is every chance that the process can be completed
quickly.
Many thanks for your attention!
