Salve noble sir,
I have known my noble family memeber for many years as
my shield brother. Now to be part of his family is
really wonderful. I have always thought of him as my
brother and now we are family.
Thanks again,
Gladiatrix

Awww! It's nice to be remembered. Thanks Fimbria! If I weren't so busy
doing Web sites for money, I'd be happy to help Tarquinius in any way
that I can. In the meantime, however, all I can say is a profound "Ave!"

I looked at the site and I'm not clear on the length of time required. Not that it
would matter, since I don't have a pressing Roman
appearance on my calendar! The site says:
"Your order will take a maximum of four weeks, and a minimum of two
weeks to complete and ship."
That does mean four (4) weeks top
for the entire order? Not six (6) weeks ultimate maximum?
If I do read it right, that's QUICK! Far out!
Which theory of stripe on the tunica do you use?
One big one down the middle? or
Two laticlavi running down from the clavicles?
Is there a choice between Republican toga
and imperial toga?
Thank you for doing it. A needed service.
Vale.

Salve,
Thanks for the questions. The new costuming page has gone up in rather a
hurry, and will certainly need some fine tuning!
The time for producing a tunic, toga, OR tunic & toga set will take at least
two weeks. If the costumer gets busy, or wool has to be ordered, it could
possibly take as long as four weeks. Yes, this IS quick for costuming, but
luckily these pieces are fairly simple.
As yet there is no choice between Republican and Imperial togas. The costumer
is offering the Republican only at this time. Seriously though, I can't
imagine trying to wear an Imperial toga. The Republican ones have more than
enough material for anyone! The Imperials got to be a pretty ridiculous
length... thirty feet of cloth or so! If the costumer decides to do these
things by special order, they'll cost a fortune in cloth alone.
The Senatorial tunics at this point have the two vertical stripes; two
laticlavi running down from the clavicles. If you'd like the other style, it
can probably be arranged, but I have no idea what it would do to the cost.
Vale,
Marcus Cassius Julianus

Salve,
Yes, there are still *plenty* of NR flags left. I don't believe we've sold
more than 15 out of 50 to date. You (and about 35 of your friends!) will have
no trouble placing your order. ;)

Salvete Cives of Nova Roma:
Under the direction of the consular advisors, I am entertaining the idea
of designing a sodalitas, which I think may be of benefit to most of the
populus. I would really like your feedback, so I can assess whether or not
it is indeed something useful.
What we propose is the design and establishment of a means of connecting
with other societies with interests in Ancient Rome, particularily, but not
exclusively, the ones on line.
I would like to get NR on their email lists, so they can make us aware
of any upcoming events, ie symposiums, lectures, conventions (toga
parties??) and the like which they may be sponsoring. This would ultimately
create an on-line NR "social calendar" and would provide us with
opportunities to group together in person at various events. This calendar
would allow for the posting of messages of a related nature by NR cives,
too.
This is all in the preliminary stages, but we need to know what you
think of the basic concept; plus any ideas you have would be appreciated.
Please reply to the "reply addie" as listed above; I will keep it to be used
exclusively for your feedback for about a week. Thanks for your time. For
SPQR, I remain
Yours in Nova Roma,
Pompeia Cornelia Strabo
Scriba Consula

greetings,
i'm sure many of you do not remember me, but i once suscribed to
this list. As the last time i left, the entire organaztion was in the middle
of a nasty little poltical conflict, which resulted in a tempory dictator. i
do sincerly hope these days are over, and that things have been straightened
out. i am not a citizen, but i do have a genuine intrest in Roman culture,
history and philsophy, espically Stoicism. i am pagan and follow
celtic-germanic reconstructionist spirtuality.well, just wanted to make a
little introduction.

Salvete,
It is my pleasure to announce that Lucius Equitius Cincinnatus has been
unanimously approved for the position of Augur by the College of Pontiffs!
In the Religio Romana the Augurs are responsible for divination and the
creation of sacred space for permanent temples. Lucius Equitus Cincinnatus
has continued to benefit the Religio through his extensive knowledge, and
will be a much needed addition to our College of Augurs.
AVE Lucius Equitius Cincinnatus, Augur of Nova Roma! :)
(On a side note, this message has been delayed due to a busy schedule on my
part. My apologies to Cincinnatus for the wait!)

Salvete,
It is my pleasure to announce that Marcus Arcadius Pius has been unanimously
voted in as the latest member of the College of Pontiffs!
M. Arcadius Pius has shown himself to be extremely knowledgeable about the
Religio Romana and Roman tradition, and his skills will make an excellent
addition to both the Pontifical College and Nova Roma.
I hope that all will join me in sending a congratulatory AVE to Marcus
Arcadius Pius!

as my leave of absence has left me uninformed, i took it upon myself to
rummage through the archives. so it seems as if NR is consdering a taxation
program to get some kind of realiable funds. this is fine. as many things the
Romans advanced in goverment, they were ahead of their time, but they did not
have the best economical structure. and ultimaly, economics are the main
affector of poltical idelogies. NR supports a free democratic system. but
should it grow to a considerable size, trade and commerce will become an
issue. it is absoulty essisental that free trade and capitalism be fully
encouraged. the Romans were a major economic power in their day, but
unfortuanaly, much of it came at a price of cosistant expasion and war. we
must strive to achive these same standards of economic sucess, but no longer
through war, but through bussiness. our warriors and elite legionares are on
longer on dangerous campaigns into barbarian lands, but in the offices of the
corprate enivorment and law offices. NR must make a rational decesion on how
much bought or donated land (geographicaly) can be managed effectively. at
this point, taxes, as far as i can see, would fund a few things: wages paid
to it's officals, maintance of website(s), production of a newsletter,
organzation of festivals and gatherings, and should it be attempted,
construction of temples, schools, or goverment offices. these are just a few
of my thoughts, if i have offended anyone, i exuse myself.
In Good Troth

Salve, Lugus Brigantius;
I welcome you back to Nova Roma! Our micronation has survived the
unfortunate period that you refer to and has come out of the period
stronger than ever. All of our old friends are needed now as never
before to re-join and become active in the move toward an even more
productive entity.
I hope that you will enjoy your return, and if there is anything that I
can do to help you settle into NR once again, do not hesitate to ask.
