Salvete, Citizens of Nova Roma;
I, Marcus Minucis Audens, stand before you in Forum to announce this
Sacred Period, XIII Februarius ad XXI Februarius / Febrary 13-21. My
Roman Religio Chaplain, Pontiff Marcius Cornelis Felix has notifed me of
his illness, so I undertake this honor alone before you. I stand in
Forum with my head covered and my voice mute in silent respect for this
Sacred Period observed from the Ides of Februarius until the Feralia.
It is a time to honor the manes or spirits of the ancestors. All but
the last day is for private commemoration of the dead, but for the whole
temples are closed, magistrates do not wear their togas of office, and
no marriages may be performed. Offerings are made to the dead,
particularly to ancestors of one's own family.
I wish to offer publicly my deep and lasting respect for the man who is
the ancestor of my Gens Minucia. He was not a great man in wealth or
position, rather he was a man who labored with his hands for Rome. He
served in a Roman Legio in the Provincia of Britannae. He was a man who
could learn and be not only a soldier of Rome but a builder as well, for
it is recorded that he was a Milles (Soldier) Immunes (Immunes to the
fatigues of his Century) and was designated as a Gromaciti (Military
Surveyor) and as a Gubernator (Pilot). I honor this man, the
name-holder of my Gens, as the ancestor of my family, and as a defender
and builder of the great culture, that we as Nova Romans seek to
re-establish in the present-day world.
I respectfully request that a Pontiff, Priest or Priestess provide a
suitable prayer and offering to our ancestors whom we honor in these
days ahead.
Valete, With Humble Heart and Great Respect;
Marcus Minucius Audens;
Consul et Senator
Fair Winds and Following Seas!!!

I have AIM. I go by Meowright on the service. Any of my fellow citizens are
welcome to say hello if they see me online.
By the way, Ive been out of the loop for a while. I am trying to get more
involved with Nova Roma again. I enjoy worshipping Pan a great deal, so I
would like to think about the pristhood sometime in the future.

Salvete cives
I am sending a donation to the treasury and urge anyone else able to do so
as well.
The Articles of Incorporation have been submitted, we have constitutionally
elected capable and energetic consules. Now more than ever there is a
broad-based, demonstrated commitment to move NR forward in line with our
founding documents while putting personal differences aside.
If some of us step forward to help fund NR now while we collectively sort
out the Republic's priorities, we can remove the necessity to impose taxes,
with all the bureaucracy and disincentive to join that will probably
accompany them.
Also, I highly recommend that new citizens take a good look at the Macellum
(<a href="http://novaroma.org/macellum/index.html" target="_top" >http://novaroma.org/macellum/index.html</a>). Purchases of goods there
contribute to the treasury, and I can say from my own experience with the
bookstore section that it works well - there are a lot of interesting books
there, the links have always worked for me, and Amazon.com has always
delivered very reasonably.
Cives can send donations to
Nova Roma
P.O. Box 1897
Wells, ME 04090
Patricia Cassia, Quaestor, will handle the deposits. I urge all citizens in
a position to contribute not to delay doing so too much, if only because
this quaestor will be wed in April and, I'm sure, off on a honeymoon for a
while thereafter :).
