Italian Translation Needed! (Conferratio rite) |

Salvete,
A friend just sent Patricia Cassia and I the text for a Conferratio wedding
rite, that's written in Italian. I've scanned the text and have it in .txt
format, and am hoping to get a translation of it, so that we can use it as a
resource for our wedding. We're getting married on April 22, so there's not
much time!
I can always plug the thing into the Internet translators, but they seldom
turn out anything that makes sense. We've had a few folks who were able to
translate Italian text in the past... is there still anyone around who can?
I'll happily Email the text to anyone who wants to give it a shot. There's
about six pages of material so there may not be enough time to do this, but
any help would be greatly appreciated.
Valete,

Salve Cassi
I'd like to have a look at that material. I could try to translate the
Italian ceremonial words into Latin, so that your wedding would be more
authentic. In fact I tink that any rite performed in honour of the Roman
Gods should be in Latin.

Salve, Pompei Cornelius Sempronius;
Probably the best thing that you can do is to read the web-page
thoroughly. It will give you an idea of what Nova Roma offers.
You do not say anything about your preferences which makes it difficult
to assist you, but the following ideas make start you off:
--Review the Nova Roma Sodallitas--if one interests you then contact the
Sodalitas Moderator and join the Sodalitas. Discuss with the moderator
how you can contribute or learn about the subject;
--If you are interested in re-enactng, contact the legions sponsored by
NR and look into joining one of them. Both I believe will accept
members;
--If you are interested in the political aspect of NR contact one of the
Magistrates and ask to be considered as an assensus or scribus;
--If you are interested in the religious aspect of NR contact the
College of Pontiffs and request consideration as a scribus, or perhaps
consider trying for a priesthood if you are so inclined;
--Don't find a Sodalitas that suits your needs? Consider starting a
Sodalitas of your own. That will require drawing up a plan of what you
wish to do, and a governing document on which to base the Sodalitas and
submitting the idea and document to the Consuls for review and they to
the Senate for approval;
--Consider an idea about selling Roman Goods in the Macellum;
--Consider getting involved in the writing, editing or publishing of the
Eagle (periodic newsletter);
--There is a new Sodalitas forming which is proposed as the Outreach
Sodalitas whose object will be to make the world more aware of NR. You
can contact them and offer your assistance;
--Consider becoming a specialist in some aspect of Roman Culture that
interests you, do some research on the subject and work with the Eagle
Editor to get it published as a particular thesis;
If you still have questions. let me know what you are interested in, and
send me a message, and we can discuss it more at length.
Vale, Respectfully

Salvete Pompeie Corneli et alii
What are your interests? There are a lot of things going on here, in
different areas (research into religio romana, Latin translation and
writing, updates and additions to the website, exploration of Roman cooking,
study of the Roman family and a lot more). Depending on what exactly
interests you, there are different ways to contribute and different groups
with which to collaborate. Tell us a little bit about yourself and you'll
probably get multiple suggestions as to what you can do.

their addresses. The Temple of Juno will be sending birthday cards to

- I know you did. I was busy doing two people's jobs at work at the time.
But I don't want you or anyone else to think me apathetic, so here's a
belated reply...
> Eagerly I awaited some response, but for over a week there was none.
- that would have been when I was catching up on several week's worth of
neglected 'spare-time'
(hollow laughter) study on the Augustan principate, to enable me to write
and send in an assignment at about a week's notice.
> But finally, two days ago, a response did come. I must thank the Roman
who
> sent a response because that means my words did have some effect.
- they had some effect on me, too, but I had to take some overdue leave from
work (which I would have lost otherwise), to tend my garden, cut the tall
grass, mulch the soft fruit, remove about 5,000 infant holly trees and do
some surgery on one of the cypresses...
<AMPUTATIO about multiculturalism, with which I concur fully, for what it's
worth>
> Once again I beg the Roman people to respond. Stand up and tell us all
> why you joined Nova Roma!
- I would have responded after that, but I had 5 gallons of wine to bottle
and 10 gallons of cerevisia, and 45 gallons of cider, to rack off... well, I
joined for the Religio, mainly, or more accurately, the confraternity and
companionship of coreligiosi. I'd have said so at the time, but I was
rehearsing the next public celebration of the Floralia with Aletheia Moravia
and Caecilia Leporaria... which reminds me, we still have new costumes to
finish, and I have to liaise with the choir, get tapes of the music to the
dancers and purchase some fireworks...
> To avoid and look down upon others? Or to enjoy,
> embrace, and unify?
- I always avoid people when my computer suddenly runs out of virtual
memory and I manage to delete some system files while trying to make some
more space - so I could get my next study assignment written and sent to my
tutor... I'm not very nice to know at such times, you see. Now I'm back in a
position to recommence working on the Provincia Britannia website - when I
have a spare minute or two... Hades! There's also that Web page on death in
the Roman world in Italian, which I promised Iunia Crystallina I'd
translate... sorry, Crys, I'd forgotten that! And Cassius is looking for
help with a Confarreatio translation too... and Merullus wants to know what
I think about Pompeia Cornelia's draft sodalitas constitution, which I
haven't even read yet...
- well, Druse Corneli, you asked. Vale bene,

Salve, Druse Corneli;
The answer to your request by my friend and assensus Vado, has inspired
me to try again to answer your question. Actually like Cassius, I have
tried to respond twice before, but the messages became so heavy and
negative that I did not wish to send them.
At the time of your question I was recovering from an amputation, and
some side effcts which kept me from the computer. Since that time I
have improved somewhat, primarily in attitude in which I am much like my
friend Vado (not very nice under stress) at least enough to try and deal
with a few of the responsibilities that I have as a Magistrate.
Hmmmmmmm! Why Nova Roma?? Well the simplest answer is that I like the
study of Rome. I primarily like the Military Engineering aspect of the
study of Rome, as well as the organization of the Legions. I would be a
legionary in a legion if I could stand up in the damn boots, but my feet
hurt so bad when I try, that I have relapsed into a story-teller and a
Sodalitas Commander. Since my name is all over the place in those
respects, I guess that part of my answer to "Why Nova Roma" is pretty
obvious.
In the pursuit of a business on the Macellum, and working up
face-to-face meetings with my Nova Roma provincial comrades (Why???
Gee, I guess because I like them. Why do you visit your friends???), I
have realzed that if I want this organization to grow, with the
possibility of meeting more friends, I was going to have to help such as
I could. Since I am not a Pagan, I turned to Politics (We don't allow
conquest or the taking of slaves you know) to put my few skills to work.
Before I knew it, I am a senior Magistate and people who I know and like
are asking me to stand for Consul. Well, I bugged the hell out of a lot
of people before I was fully convinced that they really wanted me to do
that (Why???? Gosh, I guess they like me--I know that is a stretch of
the imagination, but I can come to no other conclusion) so I took on the
job (Why??? I suppose because somebody has to do it!!!)
Now, somebody has asked me why Nova Roma---Hmmmmmm, let's see, I like
the organization, I like the people, I like the material that I am
studying, a few people seem to like me, it is a positive feelng, and I
get to answer E-Mails that ask me why Nova Roma???
Those are enough reasons I think to build an interest on, at least my
friend---it is for me!!!
Vale, Respectfully;
