My name is Caeso Fabius Quintilianus and I had the good luck and privilige
of being accepted into gens Fabia by Pater Familias, Illlustrus Consul et
Senator Quintus Fabius Maximus. It will be a privilege to try to contribute
to the glory of this dignified gens.
My homeprovince is Thule, I live in the north outside the university city
of Umeå. I work as a teacher i Social science, Geography, Religion and
History for kids of 12 - 16 years. I also am a hobby historian and
specializes in the Napoleonic era, Dark Age Britian/Arthurian myth and the
Roman Republic and Empire. I also am a dedicated
roleplayer/-writer/organizer and breeder of saluki hounds, my age is 50, I
am singel, but I have one daughter, Elin who is 17 years. My daughter is
very active in horses, jumping and dressage. I also am a horseman of sorts,
although rather passive at present time and feel as an old cavalry man. I
work part-time with my dog boarding house and I am at the moment organizing
a roleplaying convent, which will be held 2nd - 5th of November 2000. Still
I hope to have some time left over since I during the last year have left
some positions I have held for many years within some organisations. From
December I think I may have the possibility to give the Res Publica more of
my time.
I have always read about the Res Publica, both facts and fiction, I found a
favourite author in Colleen McCullough. Her "Masters of Rome" series is so
impresive. I have also read the "Claudius" series, by Graves and some more
fiction. I have read a ot of books about the republic and the Empire, but
this was many years ago.
I plan to, some time in the future together with some friends, organize a
live roleplaying "production" based on the Res Publica. The inspiration for
the production would be the board game "Republic of Rome" by Avalon Hill,
the novel series "Masters of Rome" by Colleen McCullough, the mordern Res
Publica of Nova Roma and the history, intigue and politics of the original
Res Publica. I hope that I will learn a lot from all cives from now on.
Reinactment is something I will observe and try to learn about.
I will observe and try to learn about the politics of Nova Roma and slowly
begin to take part in these activities, were I will try to be tolerant of
others, modest in statements, not touchy in arguments, but steady and clear
in opinions and at last loyal to the ideals of the Res Publica.
The Roman Republic stood for something important then and I have always
felt as a Roman, so when I found Nova Roma I felt the that I had found my
home.
