I tried sending it through a translation program
with no luck at all.

Sorry,
Caius Tiberius Scipio

P.S. I know in Italian Catherine would be spelled
... "Katerina" and if I understand the
pronunciation of Catherine, it is not from a
Latin-based language ... more likely a Germanic,
English, or Slavic one perhaps.

The DSL connection was dead for about two hours, until the ISP was

Salvete,

"Catherine" most likely stems from Greek, and would mean "the pure one" or
something along those lines. I'm not sure of a Latin version but I suppose
Catherina or Catharina would be ok.

Ave..
I'll be brief and to the point..

1 ) Augustus:The founder.
2 ) Trajan:Impressive military skills and leadership.
3 ) Vespasian:The right man in the right time.
4 ) Hadrian: Effective ruler.I like his attitude towards the
army.
5 ) Marcus Aurelius:Rome's share of 'a few good men'.
6 ) Antoninus Pius:Justly earned his title.
7 ) Claudius:Surprisingly successful.
Had you've asked about the wisest I'd definitely say Constan
tine the Great for his nice manoeuvre on religion..remarkable move
ment!..
Gave me headaches but worth the trouble...

Salve Sulla et salvete omnes!

The Latin form of "Catherine" is "Catharina" (ka - t+ha - REE - na).
The name already known in 4th century CE Alexandria.

Hope that helps!

M. Apollonius Formosanus Novoroanis omnibus S.P.D.

Although Sulla was apparently bored with the biography of Quintus
Aurelius Symmachus, I found it inspiring. You have indeed regaled us
with other stories of Romans famous for their moral courage, piety,
wisdom, and true service to Roman civilisation, as the censor says,
but I must say that I have found each and every one inspiring and
uplifting, and I save them for rereading.

After all, most of us do not have a future career as ruler of a vast
empire and commander of legions, but many of us could take the
examples of Symmachus' integrity, civil courage and pagan piety as a
model for our service to Nova Roma and our macronational communities.

So, I thank you again for a worthwhile post! Gratias.

Ave!

Actually, no I wasnt bored by that part, I have quite a few books on Symmachus
and the Altar of Victory. About the bash Dictator Lucius Cornelius Sulla Felix
post that Gn. Moravius posted. Considering that he posted a very similar post
about 2-3 months ago. I do not have a short memory....so I do recall past
posts....and I do think it is bad rhetoric to repost essentially the same
speech...dont you? Or do you like hearing essentially the same post over and
over and over again?
