Ave,

I just wanted to notify all of our citizens that I will be taking a
month leave of absence beginning on Sunday. I will be back doing Censor
duties as of Jan. 2.

Lucius Cornelius Sulla Felix
Censor

Salvete Senator Fortunatus et alii:

Thanks so much for your informative post on the Comitiae. You have
clarified a couple of things for me as well.

Much appreciated!!

Subject: [novaroma] On ages

Salve Consul Audens,

First allow me to congratulate you on your very eloquent posting regarding
some current matters. I thought your point of view was well balanced.
However, a reply wouldn't be a reply if I didn't have some comments ;-).

I have been working on this, actually. Personally I believe that ability
doesn't depend on one's age. There can be competent people below the age 21,
as there can also be incompetent people over 30. But the latter one will be
able to get elected. Thus, I don't think this is really fair - there are
other younger cives like Britannicus and I who feel limited by this Lex
Iunia de Aetate.

It's true that one can get into the course of lower administrational tasks
that don't fall under this Lex (such as Britannicus and me :)), but still, I
have to wait four years until I can run for office, and although I'm not
impatient by nature, frankly said I think this is too much. Some younger
cives' immediate impulse and engagement could be killed or suffocated by
this Lex. I'm not saying that we should have a kid running for Censor (even
so, it wouldn't get elected anyway), but I'm talking about minor
magistracies, and establishing an easier way of ascending the Cursus
Honorum, without unbalancing everything. A while ago I have made a new model
for the lex, and I could send it privately to you if you wish so.

EX DOMO PRAEFECTORIS AERARII BRITANNIAE

A 10% minimum rake-off on all European NR provinciae for Propraetor Vado and
myself? I'll agree to that.

However, I do wonder about the merits of sending me your taxes rather than
sending them straight to the Central Treasury? You'll still encounter bank
charges or whatever unless you can lay your hands on some GB pounds. I will
take US dollars off your hands too but, again, you might as well send them
straight to the Central Treasury.

The Limes Co-operation needs to have a think about this.
