Salve All

>It is with great pride that I announce and offer a warm welcome Senator
Audens to Legio VI as our honorary legatus Legionis.

I congratulate Consul Audens on this appointment, and join ATR on his
adulation of the person I feel honored to have served. I was very privileged
to be asked to join what was a very talented group people that worked for
Consul Audens. The lessons I learned, and the people I had the honor of
working with, served the Consul with at least as much enthusiasm as I felt.
Whenever I needed encouragement or a firm hand, Consul Audens was always
there to offer it. Consul.... My hat will always be in my hand whenever I
am in your presence.

Aurelius Tiberius has volunteered to coordinate a Nova Roma presence at
this event, and I've mailed him all the information. I'm sure he'll
welcome further volunteers!

Salvete omnes;

I've created a handle on AOL Instant Messenger, for those who have it;
"Flavius Vedius". It's the only instant-message program I use regularly, so
if you're looking to get hold of me in such a venue, I highly recommend
using it. (It is also a free download from http://www.aol.com .)

Perhaps we should create a database of such handles (for AIM, ICQ, etc.) for
those who wish to make them available to the public?

Valete,

Flavius Vedius Germanicus

Ave,

I have been working on that. :) That has been a project very dear to me. I
hope to have a database up sometime early next year. It will include AIM, ICQ,
Yahoo, MSN and a variet of other IM programs.

Subject: History Channel Archives -Was: Re: [novaroma] Spartacus documentary

Salve Omnes,

Now that I'm catching up with my e-mail...

If you want to catch up with some of the excellent Roman
television programming from the History Channel, check
out http://www.historychannel.com. In there you can find
many of their previously-run shows and documentaries
available for purchase. Even though I have the channel here in the US,
am always missing something or other. (Would have liked to
have seen the "Real Spartacus" myself! The movie portrayals
of him are patently absurd.) Some of the more
worthwhile programs can be purchased individually or in
boxed sets. I've purchased from them before and have had
much success with it.

Vale bene,
-Oppius Flaccus Severus

Too bad I don't get the history channel in Germany ... :o\
I hope they'll show it here too some day.

I guess they're thinking of Howard Fast's Spartacus and the Charlton
Heston movie as a not-so-real Spartacus? ;o)

Too bad I missed it.

It's pretty sad for me to miss so many interesting documentaries which
most likely will never be shown here (TV stations prefer to buy serials
and comedy shows instead of documentaries ...).
Is there a chance to create a kind of thesaurus for all available TV
documentaries on Roman and other ancient topics? Production companies
and film makers should be interested in spreading their work all over
the world.
It could be a kind of link to an official site or whatever ...
