The original movie script was not titled 'Maximus' because there was
no character called 'Maximus'. The male lead was a general called
Narcissus, and the title of David Franzoni's script was 'Gladiator'.
It was drafted in 1998, only 3 years ago.

Only in later drafts was Narcissus replaced by Maximus. The scene
with Proximo and the statue was also not in that original screenplay
to my recollection.

There is a book out on the movie. GLADIATOR-The Making of the Ridley
Scott Epic. ISBN 1-55704-431-7

I was in Yugo in 91 in the first Roto!(went back in 93 and 97). Got blow off
a road in a Carrier, with 5 anti-tank mines stacked plus a linked daisy
chain of anti-personal mines!! It was a good thing that only one anti-tank
mine went off(thanks to good Russian production habits), or Nova Roma would
never have heard of Quintus Sertroius!!!! I could not hear for four days
after this though. Did not stop me from drowning my sorrows with good

Salve,

While this completely off-topic, did you by any chance serve with the Nordic
Battalion (UNPREDEP) in the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia? I was
there with the USBAT at Camp Able Sentry in 1996.

I was lucky, the engine took shock of the explosion. I was the only one in
the carrier. Me, the Driver, and the Commander were the only ones in the APC
at the time. The whole thing flew ten feet in the air( so the other Carriers
said!!) and landed in another mine field on the side of the road!!!(had to
wait for engineers to clear a recovery area). You know how they lay their
mines, anywhere and everywhere! No map to lift it, boy are they poor
soldiers! It is easy to kill a man, but it is hard to kill a group of men!
That was my specialty, I am a ambush God! The worst part of Yugo was body
collection. I got some terrible stories about that!

First Man in Rome is the last endeavour I wish to see
"Hollywood" attempt. I would much rather see that
done in a BBC/Masterpiece Theatre style 2 month
miniseries. IMHO

As you mentioned yourself this is off-topic, but
because it was brought up here I will answer it here.

I was in Bosnia in 1996 as supply officer in
HQ-COY/DANBAT situated near Doboj. The Danish
Battalion was a part of the first IFOR forces. I came
in contact with a lot of US soldiers in Tuzla nearby
where we got petrol for the Battalion.

I have not been in Macedonia.

I hope this helps.

Salvete Omnes,
Before I raise my hand, which I'm sure I will, I believe we should begin
with the basics. In which forum should this be discussed, how should that
discussion be organized? Should we begin a separate list perhaps with the
eventual goal of forming a Colonization Sodality? Is there enough common
interest for us to continue this discussion here on the main list? Can we
find a place to colonize where we could find work in the local economy but
have a separate place to live where we could enjoy association with each
other exclusively? Are there enough cives serious about their intent to live
in a Nova Roman community to continue this discussion? What are the
legalities involved in moving to / working in these places?
So, in essence, the first question, IMHO should be: is this a "someday maybe
this is how we should do it" conversation or is it a " I'm ready to move if
we can find the right place" conversation. If it's a conversation of the
serious nature, rather than hypothetical, I propose those of us who are
interested should move this discussion to a separate list. I anxiously await
all the replies. :)

Subject: [novaroma] Nova Britannia
From: jmath669642reng@--------
Date: Fri, 30 Mar 2001 16:32:49 -0500 (EST)
Salvete, Nova Roman Citizens;

I am Marcus Minucius Audens, ProConsul for the Provincia Nova Britannia
(New England).

Until such time as I can recieve the Provincial List of Citizens
promised by the Senior Censor, I ask all citizens of the above provincia
to contact me. I cannot get a complete list of Provincial Citizens from
the NR Website due to limitations of my computer.

I should be pleased to know the following information from the NB
citizens:

--E-Mail Address;

--NR level of activity presently;

--desired level of activity (NR and Provincial);

--positions held currently or in the past;

--positions desired (list of qualifications);

--any activities attended (NR or Provincial);

--current related activities or associations.

I have so far appointed an Editor for a Newsletter effort, and a Legate
for the Region of Massachusetts. I have placed with the Consuls my
intended plan of action for the coming year. I have requested a
Provincial List of Citizens from the Senior Censor. I have contacted
the past ProConsul of this Provincia for a complete listing of all
previous edicta, and provincial records. There is on line a new and
updated Provincial Website. I have established a Provincial Newsletter
Team whose first efforts will be due inearly April, and should appear in
Eagle.

I will need to build a staff of citizens to assist in bringing the
Provincia up to the level of other viable Provincias within Nova Roma.
For this Staff I will need a Legate in each Regio (state) of the
Provincia, a Provincial Quaestor (financial advisor), Provincial
Cornicularius (Adjutant), Provincial Religio Advisor (Chaplain),
Provincial Commercial Advisor, and a Provincial Aedile (Activities
Advisor) and two additional members for the Provincial Newsletter Staff
(Reporters) .

These offices as they are filled will be posted and dated by Provincial
Edicta, and I pledge my written support for any further activities as
you may wish to engage in, after the completion of one year in any of
these above listed posts.

I have fulfilled the NR Cursus Honorium and have enjoyed an excellent
staff during my service as Consul, three of which were later
Propraetors, and three were Senators. There is no limit to what you can
do in NR except the limits that you place on yourselves. References
furnished on request.

Citizens applying for Staff Positons other than Legate / Aedile, are not
required to be members of the Provincia Nova Britannia, since most of
the work will be done on the internet. Applicants for any of the
positions menioned above may expect to be called upon for work to be
accomplished in a timely and concise manner and should have at least 10
hours per month free for this avocation.

Please contact:

When I think about it, life without George Bush sounds nice. I for one would
move to the island on these conditions. A.) Recycling is mandatory, B.)
Animal Testing is banned, C.) The use of fur is banned, D.) A list endangered
species is compiled (if discovered any, E.) A small portion of the island is
set aside for an animal estuary, and finally Dolphins are near the island
:-). Then me and the critters would take off. I know I have to be weird at
all times.
