Subject: [novaroma] Vesta Temple Announcement

Salvete!

Our new Vestalis Maxima, Lucilla Cornelia Prima, is unable to post at
the moment, and so she has asked me to make this announcement on her behalf.

Because one of her duties as Vestalis Maxima is to provide a virtual
Temple to Vesta, she wishes to announce that work on this official Nova Roma
temple has begun. This will take a little time, but we hope to soon have a
pleasant and attractive place where those who honor and revere Vesta can come
and leave prayers, poems, hymns, and such.

Salve All

CANDIDATES STATEMENT
First of all I would like to tell everyone that I am very honored to be able to run for the Position of Tribune of the Plebs. I will pledge to all that should I win; all duties of the office will be executed to the best of my abilities. Those of you that know me will understand that I stand by what I believe, and I believe in Roma! I believe that we must watch over our Republic, and ensure that she develops into as true a representation of Old Roma as possible. We in Nova Roma do not have the same luxury as our forbears in Old Roma, in that they had many generations to expand and consolidate.

Because of technology, our entire Republic operates, as Old Roma never could. Our Micro-nation is growing quickly, and there nothing wrong with expansion, but we must always beware of being blinded by the light of all our individual dreams of what we want Nova Roma to be. We have lost some good people of late, and some of the departures were due to disillusionment over our development. We must not think that we are able to fill every institution, and make great leaps in administrative organization. This is only possible after many trials and tribulations.

What we must do in order to ensure our future is to always keep our eyes on the Traditions of Old Rome, and only make developments after deciding that we are upholding those traditions. It would be a shame if after the passage of some

Salve Plebeians

STATEMENT TO PLEBEIANS
I would like to take this opportunity to address the Plebeians of Nova Roma. The polls will shortly open, and it is our duty to vote for Plebeian representation! I will be sending all of you the voting link on the website, along with a suggestion as to who to vote for!! ;-) It was very unfortunate that we lost one of our Tribunes, but we must make the necessary moves in order to ensure that proper Plebeian representation continues. We have a moral obligation to vote in our entirety as Plebeians, in order in let all Nova Roma know that the newly elected Tribune has the full Plebeian mandate. Once again, I will send out all required information in order to vote, and will do so several times while the polls remain open. Thank you.

Salve, Marcus Sentius Claudius and others.

In reply to your question Marcus Sentius, I have heard rumours of several
other movies in the pipeline regarding the ancient world, but the only
definate is Atilla the Hun, focusing especially on the battle of Chalons
(pardon the spelling) which is very late empire, but still Roman
non-the-less.

And we win, <sorta> what is even better.

I also hear of a Roman movie to be filmed in our part of the world (based on
the battle vs Carthage if memory serves me right) filmed in Queensland,
Nothern Territories and New Zealand. But it is still only a rumour and I
have yet to find independant verification of this one. If anyone out there
can confirm or deny what I have heard, much appreciated.

Cheers,

Marcus Sentius Accipiter

Subject: [novaroma] Latin Course
From: "M. Apollonius Formosanus" <bvm3@-------->

M. Apollonius Formosanus omnibus Novoromani S.P.D.

I would like to announce that the repetition of the Practical Latin
Course in the Schola Latina is complete. Soon a new course of Latin
will begin, this one a systematic treatment of Latin from the ground
up.

No book is required for this course, nor any previous knowledge of
Latin or foreign languages. Depending on the student's preparedness,
he or she should expect to spend at least two full hours in working
on it every week. Fairly abundant self-correctable exercises will be
provided.

There will be an emphasis on the active and practical use of Latin
in practical correspondence and conversation, rather than passive
reading skills. All grammatical concepts will be explained in
language as simple as possible to minimise mystification. The course
presupposes a fair passive knowlege of English. The instructor will
be available to accept and answer questions in several languages,
among which will be German, French, Esperanto, and Italian.

The course will include references and links to other Latin
resources on the internet to facilitate and enrich learning in the
most up-to-date and effective manner.

Because of the strong desirability of beginning at the beginning and
getting a good start, interested persons are asked to sign up as soon
as possible in order to receive the first lesson. An e-mail may be
sent to:

or one can subscribe at the list site.

Aye,
Yes there is yet one more movie in the till that might just make it
to the theater. CALIGULA! But not the old penthouse style, but
rather a true one. From the information I get, It looks to be
fantastic. Prayer brethren, that this one does not go into
developmental hell.

I agree with you on most of your points.
a. Resources should be managed and waste curtailed.
b. Animal testing should be prohibited, may I test my
gladius on poachers...how about my arrows?:0
c. Fur if used at all should come from animals raised
for meat. No lamb only mutton.
d. All species should be respected.
e. Explain, do you mean a sanctuary? If so I am in
favor of this.
f. You will have to speak to the dolphins on this one,
if they like the island fine.

Lucius Pompeius Octavianus omnibus quiritibus plebeiis S.P.D.

Let me introduce myself. I have been citizen for almost one year now.
Currently I am serving as propraetor of provincia Argentina and I
consider that now it is time to begin my cursus honorum within the
central administration. I am sure that being a magistrate will bring
me a deeper involvement with our beloved micronation, and also a
deeper knowledge of it.
I think that year passed since I was accepted as a citizen shows me
as an active one. In fact I voted in all elections that took place
(ordinary and estraordinary) since then. And becoming a tribunus
plebis will make me become much more active. As an homo novus I can
offer my honesty, hard work and good will.
Time for voting is approaching. I guess it will be hard to choose
considering the virtues I am sure my opponent has. Let´s pray the
gods that the best candidate be chosen.

Sincerely

Lucius Pompeius Octavianus, bonariensis
Candidate for Tribunus plebis.

Your provincia is simply where you live; it has nothing to do with your gens
or where your paterfamilias might happen to live. :-)

Next year in the Forum!

Ave, and just to add what Consul Germancius stated, the good thing about
knowing your province is that most provinces's now have their own email
list so that you can keep abreast of what is going on....in terms of
local gatherings, meetings and events. The great thing about this is
that you will have the opportunity to meet other Nova Romans face to
face!
