Subject: [novaroma] Two quick questions

Salvete:

I have two quick questions that hopefully someone can help me with.

1) Did the Romans use rivers for transport of troops or military supplies?
If so, what kind of ships were used? If someone could supply references or
schematics (or a source for such designs), I would be very thankful. (I
would have sent this to the SodMil, but my other questions is more general)

2) Does anyone know of any blueprints or designs for Roman country homes
(not within the city of Rome itself)? Specifically for the nobility or
higher-up equestrians. In my copy of the "Complete Letters of the Younger
Pliny", it has a layout of his home at Laurentum.

Any help to either of these questions would be greatly appreciated.

Ex Officio Propraetoris Thulae

Edictum Propraetoricium XXIII about the Appointment of a Procuratrix
Informatoria Thules

After five months of my administration, my workload and the areas of
responsibility have expanded. The re-organization of my Cohors Propraetoris
(The Propraetorian Staff, Provincial Governament) therefore continues to
strengthen the central administration. Therefore I, Caeso Fabius
Quintilianus, have decided to appoint one more member of the Cohors
Propraetoris of Scribae rank.

I, as a Nova Roman citizen within the Provincia Thule, am proud to see the
Gravitas and Pietas this citizen shows! My workload is heavy and Honorable
Claudia Maxima Dea has taken on her to ease parts of this burden.

I. Honorable Claudia Maxima Dea is hereby appointed "Procuratrix
Informatoria Thules" (Minister/Procurator for Information). In this
capacity she will be responsible for the information and contacts with all
universities in Thules in co-operation with all Legati Regionis. This
responsiblility may be widened in the future as seems to be the best way
for the Provincia. She will also be responsible for the introduction to
Nova Roma and the activities here of all new citizens of Nova Roma living
in Provincia Thule.

II. Above appointed official is asked to observe that she is bound by the
"Approved Regula (Charter) for the Administration of Thule" as it was
published on the 15th of April 2001.

III. As an official in Provincia Thule she is asked to within one week
swear the public oath shown on
http://www.novaroma.org/tabularium/lex99191002.html, using _both_ her Nova
Roman name and within parenthesis her macroworld (real) name. Observe that
the Oath must include all appointed positions of each cives. The Oath must
be published on the NovaRomaThule List (
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/ThuleNovaRoma ) and the Nova Roma Main List (
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/novaroma )!

IV. This edictum becomes effective immediately.

Given August 11th, in the year of the consulship of Flavius Vedius
Germanicus and Marcus Cassius Iulianus, 2754 AUC.

Caeso Fabius Quintilianus
Propraetor Thules

Vale

Caeso Fabius Quintilianus
Quaestor of Nova Roma
Propraetor of Thule
Accensus to Consul Marcus Cassius Julianus
