A television newscaster remarked today that the clouds of ash over New
York City reminded her of Pompeii.

"Even the gods regret that their powers
extended to this." -- Martial

"All around us buildings are shaken. We are in the open, but it is only
a small area and we are afraid, nay certain, that there will be a
collapse. We decided to leave the town finally; a dazed crowd follows
us, preferring our plan to their own (this is what passes for wisdom in
a panic). Their numbers are so large that they slow our departure, and
then sweep us along. We stopped once we had left the buildings behind
us. Many strange things happened to us there, and we had much to fear."
-- Pliny the Younger

I ask the Gods tonight to guard my nation, to provide healing and peace
to those who need it, swift passage to those who have died, and wisdom
and strength to the world's leaders.

Salvete Omnes,

I am still in shock over today's events.

I left home this morning to go to work; running a few minutes late,
I chose to drive instead of walk, and during the short drive turned
on the radio. I had listened to the radio news only a half hour before,
on waking, and nothing unusual was going on... but now, the same
DJs were saying that not one, but two planes - one apparently a
737 or similar craft - had struck the World Trade Center. Immediately,
I thought of the 1930 crash into the Empire State Building, an
almost forgotten event... but two almost-simultaneous crashes cannot
be anything but an act of war.

As I walked from my parking space to the train station I grew
increasingly concerned; for my office is two blocks away from the
Sears Tower, the tallest building in the United States and a likely
target for further attacks. After walking one block I reversed
my course and went home, where my fears were confirmed by CNN; this
was no DJ prank, it was an actual event. Pearl Harbor had been
eclipsed.

Minutes later, my mother paged me; I returned her call, and she
asked me to not go downtown. I said I had already mailed my
bosses to say I would not be in today.

I called one of my best friends, a lawyer working in the Chicago
Mercantile Exchange building (also within two blocks of the
Sears Tower, and a prime target in its own right), told her what
had happened, and advised her to come home immediately. She
promised to find out what was happening, but couldn't leave, as
she had a court appearance scheduled that day. I called again a
few minutes later, now begging that she flee; I think she sensed
the strain in my voice, and promised to leave as soon as she heard
from the judge.

I then called her husband, also a good friend, and woke him up with
the news; as we live in the same building, we then watched the
coverage together. Minutes after I joined him, we both saw the
replay of the second crash for the first time, and, a few minutes
later, the more severely damaged tower collapsed, falling outward
onto the street below.

One of our best-known landmarks, the second tallest building in
the country, was now just a jagged stump underneath a cloud of
dust. It was incomprehensible; we had never seen such a thing
before.

Then, the other building collapsed. Unlike the first, this one
fell straight down, the upper floors compressing like an accordion.
There was no warning; the TV camera was already showing the gaping
hole near the top when the collapse started.

At about this time, other events were also being reported. There
was a fire at the Pentagon; a fire on the mall in Washington DC;
a car bomb at the State Department building (an untrue rumor);
another plane crashed in rural Pennsylvania; and evacuation of the
White House.

I took a break from TV for a few minutes to read email. A friend
from Manchester England, who lives in Chicago but was at that
moment back in his homeland to visit family, mailed his
condolences and a statement that everything there had halted
while people watched the breaking news on TV.

My friend from downtown finally reached home, two hours after I
had called her. She nearly broke down upon hearing speculation
that the Pennsylvania plane may have been heading for Chicago
and the Sears Tower. I have heard, from several sources,
unconfirmed reports that it was shot down by the Air Force.
If this is the case, then I salute the fighter pilot who carried
out such a difficult but necessary order, and pray that his name
never becomes known to the public.

We made an appointment to give blood a few hours later, then
watched the news for a few more hours. When we reached the blood
center, it was surrounded by a crowd, filling the building, the
entranceway, and the parking lot. We fought our way to the front
to be told that all appointments were cancelled, and the wait was
at least three hours. It was good to see so many people there,
but there was nothing we could do. We then went to a nearby
Italian restaurant, which was nearly deserted, and tried to eat
in order to take our minds off the crisis. None of us could
muster up a decent appetite, and we came home.

Since then, I have been watching the TV news and reading the
first-person accounts on slashdot.org, a "News for Nerds" site.
I have cried, for the first time in years.

The brainwashed zealots who did this have accomplished their goal.
Not only have they murdered ten thousand noncombatants, but they
have destroyed a symbol of national strength and influence; they
have placed the free world in a state of panic. What they have
done may yet cripple our economy. It will almost certainly result
in a severe crackdown on civil liberties in this country, all in
the name of security.

This was an act of war. Bin Laden threatened to strike in this
manner, and he is certainly responsible. The Taliban, the most
evil regime since the Nazis, has sheltered him and condoned his
activities.

I ask the Pontifices to appeal to Mars for a decisive victory.
Our vengeance must be swift and brutal. Osama bin Laden and
the Taliban must be destroyed utterly, by any means necessary.

Valete.

I applaud Sincinius Drusus and earlier, Marcus Octavius' urging of our
civites to give blood. On last report, those in New York are only
urged to turn up at the various blook banks tomorrow if you have 0 pos
or negative blood, that those of other blook types should wait for
further announcements.

Why so fussy when there is so many casualties? Well, as a nurse I
would speculate that medical personal don't have the "hands" to do the
type and crossmatches for all types of blood. Nor do they have the
hands, as yet to pick everyone...yet. Generally, anyone may receive
type 0 blood, plus or minus some minor variables. It is only the RH
factor they must be concerned with.

Some people stood in line for 7-9 hours today in New York.

Report was from CNN. I heard this info about 15 minutes ago. There
are hotline #'s available for info on giving blood. I'll look them up
and post them.

From: "Flavius Vedius Germanicus" <germanicus@-------->
Date: Tue, 11 Sep 2001 22:11:36 -0400
Flavius Vedius Germanicus novaromanis S.P.D.

I have spent the better part of today watching the reports on television
regarding the dastardly terrorist attacks which were launched against the
United States today. For me, it's more than just images on television. For
those who don't know, I live in New Jersey, and can see the Manhattan
skyline if I drive three minutes from my office.

That skyline will never be the same.

My sister-in-law works blocks away from the former World Trade Center. She
happened to wake up late this morning. A friend of mine works in Tower B.
She missed her train to work; the first time in 7 years. Another friend of
mine works for the Federal government; his office is just between the State
Department and the White House, but fortunately only his windows were shook
(not to mention his nerves!) when a plane plummeted into the Pentagon and a
carbomb exploded outside the State Department. Today's events could have
taken a very, very personal turn for me. Thank all the Gods they did not,
but that does not lessen the evil of what did happen.

Words cannot properly describe my emotions, and I am sure the emotions of
all of us here. It should go without saying that these attacks were cowardly
and completely despicable, and that that our collective sympathy and grief
goes out to the families of the victims. But these are things that must be
said, despite the fact that mere words seem inadequate in the face of the
enormity of these inhuman crimes, for which no justification-- no
rationalization-- is possible.

On behalf of the Senate and People of the New Rome, I hereby declare three
days of mourning, beginning tomorrow September 12 and ending September 14,
for the victims of these tragic events; let us set aside this time for
contemplation of the enormity of these crimes rather than our normal
discussion of the affairs of the day, and let the business of the Senate and
Collegium Pontificum be held in abeyance during this time.

I further declare that I will be undertaking both a sacrifice to the Gods
for the safety of the victims' souls and the well-being of their families
according to the Roman rite, and will make the minne toast in their memory
according to the Norse tradition. I would urge all of our Citizens-- and
especially the members of our various priesthoods-- to make whatever
observances, prayers, or ceremonies are appropriate within the traditions of
their own faith.

Finally, I hereby pledge the fullest assistance of the resources of our
small and nascent Republic, miniscule and inadequate as they may be, to
assist the authorities of the United States in both tracking down and
punishing the perpetrators of these heinous acts, and helping the victims
thereof. In this vein, I would ask any Cive in the eastern United States to
make arrangements to donate blood as soon as possible, as such is sorely
needed in this time of trouble.

May the Gods preserve us through these troubled times.

Valete,

Flavius Vedius Germanicus,
Consul

Salvete Omnes,

I applaud Consul Germanicus' announcement of a three day period of mourning
for the terrible events in the US today. I echo his call to US Citizens to
give blood and monetary support at this time. Remember, the need for blood
will continue for several days - contact your local Red Cross for advice on
when to give so that there isn't first a glut and then a shortage.

Senator Marcus Octavius Germanicus has reminded me that today is the
anniversary of the defeat of Varus at Teutoburger Wald.

I have asked that the Collegium Pontificum to make a Roman prayer/offering
for available during the official period of mourning. There will be a
separate post on this shortly. May the Gods be with those who are still in
the midst of tragedy in the victimized areas, and may those who have died be
blessed in the afterworld.

I understood your first post.

I too have family who will be impacted.

Luckily my cousin Jennifer quit her job with a financial concern in
tower 2, 3 weeks ago. She's back in Massachusetts ith her parents.

One of my mother's cousins worked in the #7 building. He and his family
are safe in New Jersey, on holiday.

I still have no word on comrades who are still in the military,
stationed at the Pentagon.

May All That Is Holy bless the dead and their familes, and send the
murderers to the worst pits of Tarterus.

I mourn and I am enraged.

Salvete Omnes,

I have been ordered to return home to my parents, as I live not far
from the state capital of NY and they are richly paranoid. So I write
this later than most people have sent theirs. But it does not come any
less heartfelt.

My prayers are with those affected by today's tragedy, either through
family, friends, loved ones, or having watched it live this morning as
I did on television. May Apollo send quick healing to those wounded,
and to those mourning over the loss of others.

My one hope in all of this sadness is that it will bring us closer as a
nation and as a world together, so that in the future we may overlook
our differences and focus on our similarities as human beings. This is
indeed a sad day. I am still in shock. Some of my friends narrowly
escaped the collaspe of the WTCC, either by calling in sick or having
the day off. I have heard from friends of mine today with whom I have
not spoken to in months, all because of this incident. I have never
been more relieved to be in the company of loved ones than I am today.
Such tragedy makes us so much more aware of what is important to us.

May the gods help us all.

Salvete!

First off, I want to thank all the outpouring of private e-mails of sympathy
from my fellow NR citizens, but my one friend who works in WTC tower A on the
80th floor, was not at work today, since he broke his big toe at 5:30 AM
today and never left Long Island. Indeed the Gods, especially Fate was on
his side. It was not his time. That was not the reason for my announcement
this morning.

I cannot tell you much. I have signed papers, Lucius Sicinus knows what that
means, because I am a consultant to a classified think tank with classified
number of people discussing a classified subject in a location in Los
Angeles. I'm sorry to be so obtuse, but that's the way it is.
I was called into the location this AM. I'm home to take a quick shower, and
grab a change of clothes, at 1:00 AM. While I'm on site, we are behind fire
walls so I cannot see NR over the net, and I have no idea when I'll contact
you again.
So, the mock trail is postponed indefinitely. Iuduces, retain your
paperwork, and I'll let you know when we will start. I was to make my report
on CAL to the Senate this week, I beg the Conscript Fathers' indulgence, I
will get it delivered as fast as possible when the crisis has passed.

I have seen Americans on lists suggesting we destroy Mecca and Medina in
retaliation.
I must insist on moderation. We have no proof it was the Muslims. And even
it is members of the religion, not all Muslims are to blame for this. To
destroy those beautiful old buildings, genuine pieces of history and sacred
to Islam, would be overkill and over reaction.

If everyone remains calm, and lets the government do their job, I believe
that we Americans will weather this storm as we have weathered so many
others. But going off half-cocked, before getting accurate info, will be
counterproductive. The one thing I do urge all American Nova Romans is to
give blood. Call 1 800-givelife, to find the closest facility to you.
If any of the New York civvies are involved in rescue operations, I wish you
luck. It is a shame that NR cannot send volunteers to help. But we are not
that evolved. However we could send our condolences to Washington, via
e-mail, from the Senate and People of the micronation of Nova Roma.

I close with my standard prayer, Fortuna, watch over our fledging Republic,
and I trust the people
will not mind if I include the United States as well.

Thank you for this.

I have neighbours who are Muslim, and they are receiving heaps of hate
mail and calls from people they don't even know, apparently just because
their name sounds like a Muslim name. Today their little daughter stays
with me, because they have been threatened that someone would kill her
as "their accomplices" killed the thousands in NYC ...
These people like so many others are as innocent as the victims of the

Dito!
First let all other civilised countries join in, because this is not
"only" an assault on the USA, it is an assault on the civilised world as
a whole! Let us trace down and find those who are responsible and
liable, let us take them to court, as it is use in every civilised
country. Force them to show the ugly mug of terror and cynism to all the

Salvete omnes,

I, Tiberius Annaeus Otho, have been asked by my legatus, Quintus
Quinctilius Varus Galili, to send this e-mail to you. My legatus does
not speak and write the english language and I take his place as his
scriba and shall translate his message.

Here in Switzerland, we condemn the vile attack on your country. Today
at 13:00 swiss time, all churchbells nation wide have chimed in a ten
minute time of mourning and prayer. Also today, at 17:00 swiss time, a
huge mourning service shall be held in the capital city of Bern.

We, the swiss people, and those of Germania Superior want to tell you
all, that we join you in prayer for the power we need in such moments.
May the LORD bless all those who do not cry out in vengeance but keep
their thoughts for better purposes. May the LORD bless the dead, the
dying, the wounded and the surviving and give all of us the strength
to come out of this desaster as a united world, AMEN.

For now, let us all use moderate tones and be grateful that we are
still alive, valete, Tiberius Annaeus Otho

While I understand such sentiments, and realize that not all Muslims, Arabs,
or Palestinians are terrorists or support such, it is very difficult to be
so charitable when they are literally dancing in the streets celebrating the
vile actions that took place yesterday. Not only in the West Bank, where I
can-- almost-- understand it, but in Brooklyn NY and Patterson NJ. Such
people, who come here supposedly to make a better life for themselves, but
who obviously despise America and all it stands for, are beneath contempt
and deserving of nothing but pain, misery, and sorrow.

I want to thank those who have sent condolences, posted encouragement and useful information.

After returning home from taking my children to a dental appointment and dropping them at school I received a call from my wife, who works for the Dept of Defense. She told me to turn on the TV after telling me, "We're under attack." She returned home shortly thereafter and we were directed to pick up the kids from school early.

Before my wife returned home. I changed into my Toga and made offerings and prayers for the victims. I also made offerings to and asked Mars to guard and protect those who work to save victims and Mars Ultor to avenge the victims.

I cannot express the grief I feel for the families of those who await word of missing persons, who will never see them again. May the Gods give them all justice.

Pro di immortales, obsecro vostram fidem!

Sorry my friend, but I cannot agree with this statement. Yesterday's
events were an act of war against the United States of America.
Countries who support, harbor, and protect the terrorists who commit
such acts are accomplices and are equally culpable.

The governments of such countries must pay the price for supporting
such crimes. Yes, innocent people will die, but the US, and the rest
of the world, cannot afford to send the wrong message. The right
message is: If you support terrorism, you will pay an unacceptably
high price for it.

I tell you that many Americans are calling for the use of tactical
nuclear weapons against Afganistan if bin Ladin is linked to this
crime.

Salve,

This isn't about simple revenge. Arresting the group that commited
this outrage will mean little if the criminal states that allow these
groups to operate are allowed to escape retaliation. Another group
will start forming as soon as the current one is eliminated.

The only way the scourge of Terrorism will be eliminated is to
eliminate the safe harbors that the gangster states provide. These
kinds of actions will continue untill these criminal governments are
driven from power. Sanctions and Blockades have proven themselves
worthless against these rouge goverments. We will have to resort to
the same measures that eliminated the criminal Nazi regime 56 years
ago, or this will become more and more common.

Salvete,

We have reached a critical point in our history, and it is not time
for half-measures. This new level of terrorism threatens the fabric
of our society and western civilization in general. Reactive security
measures will severely curb our cherished civil liberties and risk
setting us down the road to becoming a police state. We can not stop
attacks like this by simple 'security measures', without sacrificing
our democratic institutions and dedication to personal liberty.
Instead we must be proactive, and hunt these criminals down wherever
they lair, and destroy them, whatever the cost. They must learn that
terrorism is not an option that will bring them victory, but will
only bring them and their cause to ruin. Any hesitation, any
squeamishness on our part, will only encourage further attacks by
fanatics dedicated to the destruction of democracy and western
civilization. And sooner or later, the car bomb and airplane will
give way to nuclear, chemical and biological attacks, that will kill
MILLIONS, not thousands. We can not allow this to happen. The
civilized world must unite and declare war against terrorism, the
same way the world united 50 years ago to end the scourge of nazism
and fascism. The fate of the world hangs in the balance. Here is what
I think we we should do: rescind the U.S. Executive Order prohibiting
assassination. We have some of the most frighteningly effective
Special Operations capabilities in the world. We should use them, in
cooperation with similar forces that our allies possess, to hunt down
and kill any national leader who harbors terrorists, associates with
terrorists, sponsors terrorists, etc. I assume, no matter how radical
a nation's anti-western policies or attitudes are, the man-in-charge
probably likes keeping his skin intact. I can't imagine there is
anyone in this world that be can't eliminated, whether it be by a
snipers bullet or a 2000lb laser guided bomb, given enough time and
effort. This eliminates the necessity of waging war on a rouge
nation's population, who are often innocent prisoners of the ruling
regime's policies. If any of the government's in question take
exception to this policy, we can always suggest if the prefer a
declaration of war and facing the full wrath of the most powerful
military ever known, that is certainly their prerogative. I suspect
under these circumstances, even the most indirect national support
for terrorism will dry up quickly.

Please excuse the rant.

Valete,

C. Minucius Hadrianus

It is a sad fact that innocent people die in war. This is not simply
a desire for retribution, nor it it a criminal investigation. IMO,
war has been declared on the US.

If we do not send the correct message to these terrorists and their
masters, we can only expect more of the same. Innocent people will
surely die, but in the end lives will be saved.

I hope this doesn't strike you as any type of personal attack. I

Ave, good Consul.

There are people in this world who hate the United States (sadly,
sometimes they have good reason - American foreign policy is far from
perfect). To transfer that to hating Americans as individuals is
stupid, but convenient. To extend that to celebrating the murder of
innocents is beyond stupid, it is unspeakably monstrous and inhumanly
evil. When innocent Palestinians are killed in the constant unrest of
the Middle East, you don't see American citizens throwing down a big
party in the streets over it. I have no kind thoughts or
understanding for those individuals whatsoever, and only regret that
I cannot find curses appropriate to their vile and barbaric behaviour.

Apparently, there are emergency blood donation facilities in most Canadian cities to help with the disaster in the U.S. I live only twelve miles from the border at Niagara Falls and was going to go to New York to donate, but in my city of St. Catharines we are holding emergency clinics to help with the blood shortage in New York City, and all donated blood is being sent to N.Y.C. We have been told that every donation can help save four lives.
I ask all Canadian Nova Romans, and any one else, to roll up their sleeves and help our friends south of the border. There should be clinics not far from where you live. Our prayers are with America.

Translation from Vergil's _Aeneid_ Book 1, lines 198-207,
September 11, 2001

O friends, family, we were never ignorant of suffering --
of sufferings even greater than today's --
and God brought those to an end, as he will this.
Against other dangers you set sail, braved
unfriendly shores and situations more threatening.
Strengthen your spirits now, banish these clinging fears:
At some time in the future, even remembering
this may bring support to you. After so many years,
after so many harsh storms, do we give up our dream?
Where now our destiny? What of our peace?
We are battered, not sunken; can mend and sail again.
Endure! Tomorrow comes! There will be calmer seas!

The more literal translation:

O my companions, before now we were not ignorant
of suffering -- of sufferings more grave than this --
and god will give an end to these as well.
You sailed by frenzied Scylla and her deep-resounding
rocks; you endured past the stones of the Cyclops.
Strengthen your spirits, banish foreboding fear:
perhaps at some time it will be a support to you
to remember even this. Through so many various courses,
through so many trying periods we strive for Latium,
where the fates decree a kingdom and a peace for us:
there the divine rule of the Trojans will rise again.
Endure -- save yourself for these things to follow.

Salvete omnes,

Today I have read lots of things about sorrow and rage which seem to have
been written in a great rage. I myself have lived in Arabia for 3 years
and I got to know the arabian culture and religion. I feel, as if some people
are attacking me personally, even if they aren't, but when reading things
like 'let us kill them all' or 'we must use nuclear weapons', fun stops
with me.

Nothing at all can be so horrible as to cause the greatest nation in this
world to sink to the level of terrorists, and that would be the case if
Amerika started an ethnic cleansing process of Arabia, WITHOUT KNOWING IF
IT WERE THE ARABS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So please, let us all calm down and wait at least until we know who is behind
this all.

Valete, Tiberius Annaeus Otho

Salve Tiberi Annaeu ,

>> like 'let us kill them all' or 'we must use nuclear weapons', fun

I don't wish to raise conflict on this List but, I don't believe any
post has been made with the above statements. If I am wrong please
direct me to the specific post.

>>ethnic cleansing process of Arabia<<

I also don't recall seeing any support or call for an "ethnic
cleansing" of any peoples.

I would like to thank all those who sent to me in public and
privately messages of condolences and many kind words. Really thank
you.

I also would like Nova Roma for demonstrating such a solidarity
with all victims of this action.

Those terrorists, those orrible people took away one of my sisters
and my two nieces, 2 and 4 years old.
I don't know if I will be able to forgive them.
I am crying with my family and I am praying since yesterday for my
relatives. But I am also praying so that Mars found those mens and
make justice.

Please, forgive my rage.
thank you again

Ave Tiberius!

You must understand that the comments about destruction and "striking back" made by many cives in the United States are comments made out of deep, seething anger over yesterday's events.

To ask us to suppress our anger is to ask us to deny a very human emotion: grief.

Remember - many are grieving right now. Stages of grief are (as articulated by Elizabeth Kubler-Ross) are Denial, Anger or Resentment, followed by a Bargaining phase, followed by Depression, and finally Acceptance.

You - must have patience with us. For we are hurting right now - and no one should ask us or anyone to suppress very real human emotions.

Respectfully,

---Secunda Cornelia Valeria

Salvete Omnes,
After having served in the military I thought myself
immune to shock at the behaviour of some of worlds
people. I thought nothing could be horrific enough to
render me speechless. I was wrong.
My most heartfelt sympathies and condolences go out
to all Americans.
Yesterday I watched in horror; my shock growing with
the development of the situation and the realisation
of the number of casualties that must have been
inflicted on the USA yesterday. Today I watch in
growing anger at the animals who would perpetrate
murder on this scale, and their keepers who house,
feed, arm, and hide them. Those who support this type
of terrorism are as guilty of the crime as those who
guided those terror-filled aircraft to their targets.
All of them should be made to pay. This goes beyond
the judicial system of any single nation. This act of
barbarity can only be classed as an act of war, not
only against the United States of America but against
all nations that value freedom and peace.
I pray to the Gods that Article 5 of the NATO
agreement is invoked so that all allied nations will
stand equally with the United States of America to rid
the world of the people who would perpetrate these
terrible, terrible crimes.

Valete,
Gaius Etcheverius Burdigalus

Salve Mani Constantini:

Words cannot express how terribly sorry I am for your losses and your
profound grief. I am heartsick for you and your family, amice.

You are in my prayers, as are all the victims of this loathesome
atrocity.

I pray for divine guidance for the leaders of the U.S. and allies,
that they may develop a plan for justice, and a plan to halt
terrorism, and discourage profoundly those countries who harbor and
justify the actions of these amoral monsters.

<<<Here is what
I think we we should do: rescind the U.S.

This eliminates the necessity of waging war on a rouge
nation's population, who are often innocent prisoners of the ruling
regime's policies.>>>>

I so totally agree with this. Why should criminals be allowed to act with impunity, just because they declare themselves heads of state (often taking an entire unwilling populous as hostage)? We not only can eliminate threats to our own nation but liberate oppressed people (example: 52% of the population of Afghanistan - the women, plus many men who are appalled at the Taliban's extremist, terrorist regime).

We spend enormous amounts of money training and equipping our Special Forces. They are not only highly capable of taking out targets with minimal "collateral damage", they are chomping at the bit to be allowed to do so.

I say, let the hounds loose.

Salvete Omnes: Reading the posts lately has literally brought tears
to my eyes. The outpouring of feelings and offerings of moral support
to our friends and families in the U.S. and freedom loving people
around the world is overwhelming.
My sincere condolences to Manius Constantius Serapio and his
family who suffered loss of kin in this nightmarish attack. Our
prayers are with you my friend, and with all those who are in pain
and suffering through this experience. I pray that they find eternal
rest. I pray for all those who are suffering because of this
sickening nightmare, and I heap curses on those who committed this
dispicable sick act.
Now that Article 5 of the NATO agreement has been invoked, all
member countries can work together and use our military forces to rid
the world of such monsters who create such real nightmares for us. An
attack on the U.S. represents an act of war on all freedom loving
people of the world and must be responded to with the utmost
severity. They will be found, crushed, and destroyed. There is
nowhere in the world they can hide from the United States and their
NATO allies. My prayers for all us.

You may not wish to suppress your deep seated emotions, but realize that when you do show them by such vitrolic speech, you do nothing to uphold the noble Roman virtues of Dignitas, Severitas, and Prudentia. Also, Aequitas, Clementia, Providentia, and especially Spes, must be our constant companions so that we do not show the Barbian horde that we have been effected by their cowardice, that the mighty spirit of the Roma and American people shall rise above the ashes of the twin towers like Phoenix from its own ashes to be greater than Phoenix had ever been before.
Victory to the Mourners.
Solace to your souls.
