Subject: [novaroma] Nova Roma Coins
From: bsmith3121@--------

I just received my Nova Roma coins - they are absolutely beautiful.
Both of my daughters have already taken 10 apiece. They said
something about how they now can also get a Nova Roma allowance. I'm
afraid I may have created a situation in which I get to lose two
currencies. I hope they never find my stash of Deutsche Marks or
Norwegian Kroners or I will be poor.

Salve,

A reading...

Publius Ovidius Naso
Metamorphoses
Book I
Apollo & Daphne

Since I received positive feedback on the last message, I decided to do
another reading from Ovid's Metamorposes...specifically, again, on Apollo.
This time, the son of Venus is up to his tricks...

Daphne, Peneus' child, was the first love
Of great Apollo, a love not lit by chance
Unwitting, but by Cupid's spiteful wrath.
The god of Delos, proud in victory,
Saw Cupid draw his bow's taut arc, and said:
'Mischievous boy, what are a brave man's arms
To you? That gear becomes my shoulders best.
My aim is sure; I wound my enemies,
I wound wild beasts; my countless arrows slew
But now the bloated Python, whose vast coils
Across so many acres spread their blight.
You and your loves! You have your torch to light them!
Let that content you; never claim my fame!'
And Venus' son replied: 'Your bow, Apollo,
May vanquish all, but mine shall vanquish you.
As every creature yields to power divine,
So likewise shall your glory yield to mine.'
Then winging through the air his eager way
He stood upon Parnassus' shady peak,
And from his quiver's laden armoury
He drew two arrows of oppossing power,
One shaft that rouses love and one that routs it.
The first gleams bright with piercing point of gold;
The other, dull and blunt, is tipped with lead.
This one he lodged in Daphne's heart; the first
He shot to pierce Apollo to the marrow.

...
...

Apollo saw her, loved her, wanted her -
Her for his bride, and, wanting, hoped - deceived
By his own oracles; and, as the stubble
Flames in the harvest fields or as a hedge
Catches alight when some late wayfarer
Chances his torch too close or, in the dawn,
Discards its smouldering embers, so love's fire
Consumed the god, his whole heart was aflame,
And high the hopes that stoked his fruitless passion.

What happens? Continued tomorrow...

Vale,
Vibius Invictus Naso

Salve Quinte Quinctili:

I enjoyed viewing your photos. I looks like you had a wonderful time.

I know when I return from a Roman gathering, I find myself on a real
"high" or "intense feeling of wellbeing" for a few days.

I know after my first provincia event, I phoned my Paterfamilias,
Lucius Cornelius Sulla, and Matrona Prima, and I talked the ears off
them about how happy I was that things went so well.

I am pouting at present because I could not make a gathering fairly
close to me, due to family obligations. But I know there will be
other opportunities. I can't always have my "own way".......:)

I am glad you shared your photos, and may you have more gatherings,
and great times.

Bene vale,

Salve Invictus:

Thank you once again for lightening our hearts with another worthy
submission :)

I have read the presented text before, but I am nonetheless looking
forward to "segmenta II". I will refrain from comment until the story
is complete, after which, I will have some things to share.

Looking forward to the next post :)

Bene vale,

Salvete Quirites!

Invalid Voter Codes (I)
Vote # 9038
Vote # 9061

Another election is upon us so be sure to cast your vote before October 20. Our Rogatores will be busy processing them so look for these Invalid Voter Code messages to be sure your vote was cast successfully. Keep a record of your Vote # once you have cast your vote and if it is mentioned here you will need to try and cast your vote again. Remember your Voter Code should consist of three letters followed by three numerals. If you are having continual voting problems you can contact one of the Rogatores or the Censors asap.

It is important to have your say. If you do not bother to vote, then you have little right to complain.

Valete!
