Salve Priscilla:
What a wonderful idea you have presented. My congratulations and
thanks for taking the reins in promoting a very positive
initiative......some 'chicken soup' for a weary community.
We have been lacking in accentuating the positives about one another,
and alas, I am guilty on a couple of counts myself. Well, we can tell
ourselves we are delivering 'political criticism', but we forget to
first ask ourselves, I think, "could I have done any better?" We
"mean" well, but a steady diet of such feedback tends to promote poor
morale, and gives outsiders the impression that we are constantly
bickering. In short, we tend to be 'imbalanced' in terms of
negative/positive input.
Each of us does what he/she can for NR; we all have macronational
obligations to tend to, with their concurrent stresses. Plus, this
war, which we have been forced into by virtue of unprovoked and
senseless attacks on innocent people, has caused an over abundance of
stress on us all. This makes us all a bit short-fused.
I confess, that whenever I hear a plane go by that is flying a little
fast and low, I get a little queasy. I live practically ontop of an
international locks, which, if blown up, could cause a disastrous
Great Lakes flood.
I for one will take you up on your challenge, Priscilla, and pen some
letters ASAP. You are an eloquent and caring Prima Domina, as well as
a very responsible and earnest Curatrix Sermonis. I feel very
privileged to have gotten to know you this year, through association
with you as scriba.
And I will *not* count this as my first letter (grin), but my personal
thanks for all you have done for Nova Roma, on top of all else you
have on your plate: contending with our little trolls, new job, new
baby, coming close to losing dear friends on Sept 11. You could have
"walked", but you didn't..........

[novaroma] New Mithraic Website - and resources |

Salvete,
I am pleased to announce the completion of a new online Mithraic website and
resource: http://www.mithraeum.org .
Mithraeum.org is a service organization dedicated to rebuilding Mithraism as
a living world religion. It is a compendium of new and existing materials, as
well as a forum for contact and discussion. A few Mithraic prayers and a
Mithraic rite are online already, and more liturgical information should be
available in the near future.
New communication forums are also available, including a message board, a
room for Live Chat, and also a new Mithraic Internet list :
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Mithraeum
This new list is intended to be a more specifically religious *accessory* to
the existing Mithras list, rather than a replacement for it. It is my hope
that the Mithras Internet List will continue to be the largest general forum
for Mithraic discussion as it has been for the past four years. I sincerely
ask folks to not unsubscribe from the existing list to join the new list as
both are important.
If you are interested in Mithraism as a spiritual path, I sincerely hope that
you will check out the new site. And, as with all new sites, volunteers to
help maintain and expand it, and/or content submissions are very much
invited.
Standard disclaimer - I apologize beforehand for any and all existing
misspellings, information bloopers, bad connections, etc. I've worked hard on
getting things right but its a complex website. I'm sure there'll be a few
bugs to work out over the next few days!
If anyone has any questions, complaints or suggestions for or about the site,
please reply to this address, or the new Mithraeum address:

PONTIFEX ANTONIVS GRYLLVS GRAECVS OMNIBVS SALVTEM
This is one of the dies fasti (F), on which legal actions are permitted.
Today are the Nones of Mensis November. On the Nones of every month, the Rex
Sacrorum appears on the steps of the Capitol to announce the regular fixed
feasts of the month.
Today is the second day of the Ludi Plebeii (Plebeian Games).
These Ludi Plebeii were held between November 4 and November 17. They were
probably established in 220 BC by Gaius Flaminius when he was Censor and
built the Circus Flaminius. This was probably the place where the games were
held before being transferred to the Circus Maximus. Only the Ludi Romani
(September 5-9) were more important than these games. They were the
responsibility of the Aediles Plebis while the Curules Aediles were
responsible by the Ludi Romani. Like the Ludi Romani, their central point
was the Feria Iovi (Feast of Iuppiter) on the Ides (13th), the Equorum
Probatio on the 14th and the first circus games on the 15th. It is not
possible to trace their growth but it is known that at their height the
first nine days (4-12) were devoted to theatrical performances, while the
last three days (15-17) were devoted to circus games. The procedures at both
the Plebeii and Romani appear to have been similar.
The month of November is sacred to Diana.

I am new here, so I can no more say what each individual is
doing wrong or right. However, I praise Nova Roma as a whole
for keeping Roman history alive and breathing. I praise all
citizens for staying with Nova Roma, no matter what insults are
flung at them. And I praise you, Priscilla Vedia Serena, for
issuing this challange. Someday, future Nova Romans will look
back at what we have done with pride, and they will be able to
see what troubles we have all faced in these first steps we are
taking.

Censor Lucius Cornelius Sulla-Felix;
Sir,
I wish at this time to express my appreciation for your work as a Censor
in Nova Roma, as well as your continued and spirited interest in the
affairs of the state of Nova Roma. While you and I have not always
agreed on items that have come before the micronation, I must applaud
your continued and detailed interest in those items, and also recognize
the extensive research that you very often bring to your arguments.
My personal thanks for your extensive and continued interest in our
micronation.
Very Respectfully

ProPraetor Caeso Fabius Quintillianus;
Sir;
Allow me to take this brief moment to congraulate you on all of your
efforts as ProPraetor of the Provincia Thule. You have established an
excellent administative base within your Province, You have been
instrumental in the establishment of the Academia Thule for the future
training of the citizens of Nova Roma, and you have been active in
Provincial Ideas shared around the world.
I must therefore take a moment to tell you publicly of my admiration for
your detailed and most positive administrative efforts, that you have
devoted to your accepted task, and also to the interest and the ideas
that both you and your close colleagues have contributed to the growth
and well being of Nova Roma.
I am proud to call you friend, and Provincial Colleague, and I look
forward to many more years of working together, and of a strong mutual
friendship.

Censor Lucius Equitus Cinnciatus;
Sir;
Please allow me this moment to tell you how much I appreciate your
determined efforts as Censor, and your efforts as a longtime citizen and
Magistrate of Nova Roma. It was you, as Consul, who first encouraged me
as an Advisor ad later to run for higher political office in Nova Roma,
and it was you who provided me with a view of the inner workings of the
higher offices within this micronation , and further it was you who had
a great deal to do with forming my ideas to carry out successfully my
tenure as a Senior Magistrate and Consul. I don't believe I have ever
publicly given you credit for your friendship and your standards to
which I was pleased to adhere to through both good and bad times.
I now stand forward and thank you publicly not only for your past
kindnesses and comradeship, but also for your excellent work as a
Censor. I have never asked anything of you, that I have not recieved an
immediate and informative response. My thanks for your diligence and
hard work in this extremely busy and demanding position.
Very Respectfully;

Flavio Vedio Germanico M. Octavius SPD,
In response to Priscilla Vedia's challenge to the list, I am writing to
commend you on your fine job as Consul.
First, though, let me say I'm sorry that our exchange last week was
so acrimonious. I felt your criticism of Titus Octavius Pius was overly
harsh, and responded in a similar tone. You and I have worked together
well this year, and I hope that one incident won't spoil that.
Your performance as Consul has been exceptionally good. You've
authored more laws than anyone else, and they have been well
thought out. You've thwarted the actions of those who sought to remake
Nova Roma in their own image. You've demonstrated an incredible memory
for detail and a sharp legal mind, being able to provide sound and
reasonable argument on a number of difficult legal issues.
The year of your second Consulship saw more progress than any previous
year of Nova Roma's existance. I thank you for your dedication and
excellent performance.
Vale, Octavius.

This is the matron of the Gens Cornelia-Prima Cornelia-writing this
email.
I must report that Lucius Cornelius Sulla's mother passed away yesterday
Sunday, November 4th at approximately 2:30 pm pacific time.
Mifa Golenpolsky Woolwine was 55 years old and died in the hospital from
severe complications of Diabetes. She died peacefully in the presence of
Sulla/(Robert to her!) and a minister.
Needless to say, Sulla will be out of town probably until the end of
this week. His mother did not want a funeral but she will be cremated so
he is
arranging that at this moment.
Among surviving family, the most closely affected is her mother-Luba
Golenpolsky. I would ask you to remember her, especially, at this
dreadful time.
Sulla does not have Internet access at this time but I told him I would
inform Nova Roma and Gens Cornelia about the situation.

<x-rich>Salve Senator, Proconsul and Quaestor Illustrus Marcus Minucius Audens!
It has been my intention to take up the challenge of naming a few of the
one that I admire in Nova Roma. It was also my intention to name You as the
first person that I admire in Nova Roma. But as You already know I am tired
tonight. But since I have read what You wrote about me I can't sleep if I
don't say what is on my heart. Before I say more I must thank You from the
bottom of my heart for your kind words about me.
My dear friend and Navy Chief!
In the beginning as a citizen in Nova Roma I turned to You, as Consul, to
get advise about how to behave and how to act in our beloved Res Publica.
You stood at my side right from the beginning, although You had loads of
responsibilities (also outside nova Roma) to deal with. And You still stand
by my side, You have been my oldest and closest friend in Nova Roma and You
still are. You were a warm and very caring as a Consul, as You still are in
all the capacities were I have learned to know You.
Those of us who have had the privilege to see You in action know that You
combine this warmth with the courage to say what You feel is right. You
sometime takes open fights, but as I follow You through the years, I see
that You still are able to gracefully distinguish between a disagreement
and a personal relation. In this You are unique, not only in Nova Roma.
Although You as a soldier is a patriot, I know no other person that is more
tolerant of other cultures and more of an internationalist in the best
sense of the word. There is much to admire in You!
I must shortly mention your re-enactment activities, I don't think that
everyone know how much time, strength and commitment You put into this
hobby of yours. I think that it would be proper to say that this hobby is
the second love of your life, your wife and family being the first. Not
withstanding this our Res Publica certainly is one of your true loves, it
is easy to see this as one look at the many obligations You have taken upon
yourself, besides being a good friend of many of us.
I could go on forever, but before I fall into my bed I must mention all the
positions that You uphold with a deep interest and commitment. You are a
Senator, not only that, You also are the Senate's "contact person" -
Senatus Responsorum. You are the Praefectus of two Sodalitas (Militum and
Egressus). When I asked You, You took your part of the burden to build the
Academia and now have agreed to work as a Praeceptor in the future, if the
need arises. You have also volunteered to stand as Quaestor at the side of
one of the Praetores, although You had completed the Cursus Honorum
already. You also are an active an ambitious Proconsul and have to the
relief of many promised to continue, at least for one more year. You have
also accepted to be the Senate's delegated mentor for the Governor of
Britannia. When do YOU sleep my friend?
At last I must mention the many wonderful mails that You have written, both
privately and publicly, full of wisdom, patience, commitment and warmth. I
always prepare to read them as one prepare for a delicious meal.
Marcus Audens, as most of us know You, for me You tower above most men and
to call You my friend is a honor!

Salve Prima Cornelia
Please transmit my condolences to my esteemed friend Lucius Cornelius
Sulla Felix. If his mother died in peace, then I now that my prayers
to Aesculapius may have not been in vain. No human can escape the
fate of death assigned to the mortals. But I still believe that death
can only be bad for the living, and thus I know that Sulla's mother
is now in good company for she is in company of the gods.
May prayers be offered to the Di Manes, to the Lares, and to the gods
whose providence is the realm of the departed ones. May the immortal
gods care for those who will miss and mourn the deceased, helping
them to endure the mortal fate not with despair but in the serenity
of those who have nothing to fear from what in written in the oracles
of Fortuna and Necessitas.
Vale bene
