Censor Lucius Cornelius Sulla -Felix;

Sir:

You have my deepest condolences at your recent loss. Ihave some small
idea of your feelngs at this moment, as I lost both of my parents while
I was in service on distant station in both cases. My sense of loss and
my feelings of personal inadequacy at not having been able to express to
each of them the greatdebt that I owed them, brought me low for many
days.

You have at least the satisfacton of that last time with your mother. I
have found in my life that as long as I maintain a place in my heart for
my two beloved parents, and dedicate a small bit of time to thier
memory, that they remain alive in my heart. I do not have the
privaledge of visiting their graves, due to the distace from my present
home, so I keep thier pictures close by me, and ther memories alive in
my prayers and my thanks to my dieties, and I find that much of thier
wisdom has been generated to me through my consistant questions--What
would they do in any give situation??? Your pain will be severe in the
coming days, but it is my hope that you will ultimately reach a place
where your dear mother and father will always be an inspiration and
advisor to you, as mine and my father have been to me.

My condolances to you Master Sulla, and my thoughts and prayers are with
you in this difficult time.

With Sympathy;
Marcus Minucius Audens

Salvete,

I also am replying to that request to compliment all who have made a
difference. I am new to Nova Roma, I discovered it on July 17, 2001.
I'll never forget the feeling I got when I found out there actually
was a site (and a fully functional organization) dedicated to
restoring the Roman Empire. I think we all just need to actually
realize how amazing Nova Roma is! I would like to thank especially,
all the people who spent hours and hours at a time to make Nova Roma
a reality. Consul Germanicus, Consul Julianus, and all the people
backing them up deserve a real congratulations. Whenever I have a
question or a comment, a magistrate ALWAYS writes back. As far as I
can see, Nova Roma is an efficent, caring community. So of course
bickering will happen... it's just part of human nature. But, the
best thing is when we take everyones ideas and make something far
better than anyone could have ever imagined. In my eyes, that is what
Nova Roma IS. Valete omnes!

Salve Sulla,

I wish to pass along my condolences. A mother is an
integral part of family life, and I know from my own
mother's experiences of loosing a parent how
heartbreaking an experience it can be. But, as she
told me, it was a great consolation to know she had
friends and family to rely on when she felt at her
lowest.

Once again, I wish to tender my most sincere
condolences. I know that you will find the strength to
carry on.

Vale bene,

L. Cornelius Sullae Felici patri familias Lucilla Cornelia Cinna salutem

I offer you my deepest condolences for your loss. Hardly anything can be
compared to the loss of a mother, and hardly anything can be a duty as
hard as staying at her side while she is leaving this world for a better
place, leaving you behind with no chance to ever see her face or listen
to her voice in this world.
It has not happened to me yet, but I had to condolence my own mother,
after my granny died.

I found a few lines of Catullus, a poem of condolence to a friend named
Calvus whose beloved wife Quintilia died, which I quote below:

Si quicquam mutis gratum acdeptumve sepulcris
accidere a nostro, Calve, dolore potest,
quo desiderio veteres renovamus amores
atque olim junctas flemus amicitias,
certe non tanto mors immatura dolori est
Quintiliae, quantum gaudet amore tuo.

If anything pleasing or welcome from our grief can have an effect on
silent graves, Calvus, when with its longing we renew old loves and weep
friendships once lost, surely Quintilia does not mourn her premature
death as much as she rejoices in your love.
(Catullus 96)

May the guardian gently guide your mother, Mifa Golenpolsky Woolwine, to
the place of eternal peace, while you and your grandmother are in my
thoughts and prayers. Di deaeque te tuosque bene protegant atque res
bene vertant.

Honored Consul Germanicus;

In the spirit of recognition of your efforts during the last year as
Senior Consul, I ask for your attention, as I congratulate you on your
work during the year. Your obvious ability in legal matters has been a
great assistance to Nova Roma in moving the micronation toward her long
and short term goals. I applaud your efforts in this area, and fully
appreciate as a ProConsul the "bumps in the road" along the way, as well
as the frustrations that come with the task that you have undertaken.

We are two different people, you and I, and we see the duties and
responsibilities of the Consulship in a very different light, and in
differing emphasis. That being the case we often disagree, on the
methodology undertaken, however, I must say that your dedication to Nova
Roma, your excellent work in formulating and explaining in the greatest
detail, proposed laws for the Micronation is recognized by this somewhat
Provincial Gentleman, as necessary, vital, and determinate for Nova
Roma.

For this effort then, I thank you, most sincerely, for your extreme and
long-standing efforts in the areas of your special skills where you have
given to the micronation most unselfishly.

Very Respectfully;
Marcus Minucius Audens

Censor Lucius Equitus Cinnciatus;

Sir;

Please allow me this moment to tell you how much I appreciate your
determined efforts as Censor, and your efforts as a longtime citizen and
Magistrate of Nova Roma. It was you, as Consul, who first encouraged me
as an Advisor ad later to run for higher political office in Nova Roma,
and it was you who provided me with a view of the inner workings of the
higher offices within this micronation , and further it was you who had
a great deal to do with forming my ideas to carry out successfully my
tenure as a Senior Magistrate and Consul. I don't believe I have ever
publicly given you credit for your friendship and your standards to
which I was pleased to adhere to through both good and bad times.

I now stand forward and thank you publicly not only for your past
kindnesses and comradeship, but also for your excellent work as a
Censor. I have never asked anything of you, that I have not recieved an
immediate and informative response. My thanks for your diligence and
hard work in this extremely busy and demanding position.

Very Respectfully;
Marcus Minucius Audens

Mille Gratius tibi Senator Audens ago! I want to add that it has been a
pleasure working with such gracious and diligent gentleman. Thanks again for
sharing your talents with us.

I wish to conclude by offering my appreciation to *all* those magistrates
who have taken on and preformed the duties of their offices.
Specifically I want to give thanks to Pontifex Antonius Gryllus Graecus for
his work promoting the Religio Romana and especially Senator Marcus Octavius
Germanicus who has done so much to keep Nova Roma viable. These two men have
quietly worked doing those things that keep Nova Roma a growing place in
which we can be proud. Bene omnibus nobis!
