Subject: [novaroma] Thanks from Vindolanda

Today I received a confirmation of the donation by the Senate and
People of Nova Roma to the Vindolanda Trust.

For those of you who may have missed this, we collected a total of $450
as a donation for the trust, which is located in northern England and
administers a significant ancient Roman site. This site has provided
much information to the modern world about the Romans who dwelt there,
guarding the fringes of Britannia province and gradually becoming an
accepted part of the local landscape. To find out more, visit http://
www.vindolanda.com.

This site was chosen for Nova Roma's first gift because of its useful
work, and because it suffered a significant loss of revenue last year
during the foot-and-mouth crisis. While Vindolanda did not have to
close down, the resulting precipitous drop in tourism put the Trust in
danger of bankruptcy. While of course our gift is a drop in the bucket,
it nevertheless represented the sincere good wishes and encouragement
of Nova Romans.

This gift marks a step forward for Nova Roma. In looking outside our
own squabbles to ways we can help encourage Roman scholarship and
awareness, we grow as a nation and as individuals. Because I believe so
strongly in the value of such gifts, I have included a "donations"
category in the proposed budget which I drew up before the end of my
term as Quaestor, and which will shortly be voted on in the Senate.

I would like to publicly thank all who participated, and encourage the
Citizens of Nova Roma to bring to our magistrates' attention any
similarly worthy projects which we might support in AUC 2755.

Congratulation and my compliments for vindolanda website.
It's a very good and cool web site by the "point of graphic view".
IMHO this is the demonstration an ancient Roman website should be
made by modern features like flash remaining useful and easy.

Subject: [novaroma] Vindolanda Books?

Salvete,
I was visiting the Vindolanda web site and I was wondering if anyone
has ordered books from there "State side" ? If so , was there any problems or
issues I should be aware of?
Soon I will have a tax return and I might as well support my habit of
a few good books.

Subject: [novaroma] Statue of imp. Traianus and roman col. in Buenos Aires
From: "luciuspompeius" <danielovi@yahoo.com>
Date: Wed, 09 Jan 2002 22:05:35 -0000
Salvete omnes.
Yesterday I´ve found a statue of emperor Trajan in my own city!!!.
For those who ever visited Buenos Aires it is located at Plaza
Lavalle (Lavalle Square) behind the Colón Theatre (which is very well-
known by tourists, and by the way has an Italian style). I already
took a photo of it. The legend under the statue says : "imp. Cćsari
Nervć Traiano optimo principi ".
Besides, I also took a photo of an original roman column donated by
the city of Rome to the city of Buenos Aires. It is located at "Plaza
Italia" (Italy Square).
As soon as a technical problem with the server is fixed, I´ll put
them on line at the front page of the provincial website. I hope
you´ll enjoy them!!! :-)

By the way, regarding the article in spanish about emp. Trajan, I
cannot promise any translation since it is very lengthy and it´s a
very hard task. Sorry.

Valete bene
Lucius Pompeius Octavianus
