The civus with the voter tracking number 11033 has a malformed or
invalid voter code. A reminder to all: your voter code consists of
three letters, followed by three numbers. Please do not confuse any
letters with numbers and enter them in the same case they were

I just wanted to address my fellow Romans and tell you
all what it means to know that I am not alone in this
world. I have a family of Romans out there, no seen or
heard, but there all the same, and the bond that keeps
us together is one that cannot be broken. :)
I love you all very much. and I want to wish everyone
a wonderful, fruitful new year. and I pray each of you
are blessed in some way, every day.

I know how you feel........Atlast, People I can enjoy *Rome* with! I
have had an affinity toward Rome, particularily the ideals of
Republican Rome, since I was about 10 years old. I cannot quite
explain it, and I have never been able to ignore it.
Now, in Nova Rome, we don't have to ignore it.......we can celebrate
it, with other civites of Nova Roma, and feel very much at home.
I am pleased that you have posted, and I am especially pleased that
you have found Nova Roma.

Today is one a "dies nefastus publicus" (NP), a day of special religious
observance when legal business cannot take place.
Today is the second day of the Carmentalia (the first day was january 11th),
a two day festival in honour of Carmentis, a Goddess of childbirth and
Prophecy. Into her shrine, it is unlawful to bear leather, for it reminds
death and the slaughter of animals (Ovidius, "Fasti", 1.628ss). The prayers
offered to her invoke the mysterious Carmentes (Goddesses Porrima and
Postverta) who preside the birth. Porrima presides the birth when the baby's
head comes first. Postversa presides the birth when the feet of the baby
come first (Aulus Gellus, "Attic Nights", 16.16.4). Some interpret those
Goddesses as presiding destiny, one presiding over the past and the other
over the future, being thus associated with Ianus to whom the month of
Ianuarius is sacred (Ovidius, "Fasti", 1.65; Macrobius, Saturnalia, 1.7.20).
Today, the Flamen Carmentalis, assisted by the Pontifices, offers sacrifice
at the shrine of Carmenta, which stays next to the Porta Carmentalis near
the Capitol. The two days of the Carmentalia are separated by an impair
number of days, which is specially pleasing to the Gods.
The month of Ianuarius is sacred to Ianus.

Salvete!
Well, two weeks ago I was freezing at Hunter AAF in Savannah,
Georgia. Now I am sweating in Guantamano Bay, Cuba. My unit has
been moved here to Camp X-Ray to process the prisoners taken in the
war in Afghanistan. My job is fingerprinting, which means I get to
lay hands on the Bin Laden guys and print them. {You shold here some
of them whine when they get showered. I won't even mention their
reaction to the anal cavity check.....}
None of us like being here, but at least this is a real mission now,
and not just another pointless make-work program like we had in
Georgia. Still, I miss my wife terribly. And it is doubtful we will
be home in time for Roman Days. {And I so wanted to have dinner with
Cassius and Patricia again}
I'll write again when I can. There is a nice little library here
with three computers for internet access. I think I will check out
Marcus Aurelius Meditations to help pass the long hours here in the
heat.
