Salvete Quirites,
I would like to start out by thanking Flavius Vedius

Drusus: I have to object to this reason to eject a
Senator. In Antiquita Senators would be gone from Roma
for extended periods. Caesar was absent for 10 years
while in Gaul, yet wasn't expelled from the Senate
despite having many foes who would have been glad to
be rid of him. It was also common for Senators to be
absent from Roma for personal business, like Brutus's
trip to collect debts during the crisis leading up to
Ceasar's crossing of the Rubicon, and again this
wasn't felt to be reason to expell Brutus.
If a Senator was convicted of a crime, expell him. If
a Senator fails to pay taxes, then they are in the
head count, and fail the means test, so that is reason
for expulsion, but failure to attend meetings? Sorry
this flys in the face of the Mos Maiorum, and I have
to object on those grounds, regardless of weather the
law permits it or not.
Just because yau may perform an action, does not mean
that doing so is required or a wise choice.

It's nice to know that there is a Consulta on this
matter. I have to assume that it's item "III.
Procedural Clarification to the Lex Vedia Senatoria"
passed the day before the expulsions, though it's hard
to be sure since only the results of the vote are
posted, not the actual Consulta.

This compulsive secrecy on the part of the Senate is
doing more harm to it's reputation than any disclosure
of "Senate business" could ever do. It has the effect
of creating distrust between the people and the
Senate, something that is NOT in the long term intrest
of the Respublica.
In Antiquita most meetings of the Senate were
conducted with the doors open, and any citizen
interested in the "Senate business" was free to listen
to the procedings. The doors were only closed to the
people's ears in extraordinary times, NOT as a general
rule. These closed meetings are NOT in keeping with
the Mos Maiorum, and need to be ended for most
meetings.
If the nature of the Senate's mailing list percludes
allowing intrested citizens from following the debates
of meetings that haven't been closed, then follow the
example that C. Julius Caesar set during his first
Consulship. Publish the debates in the forum the
following day any time the Senate's "doors" haven't
been ordered closed by the magistrate that called the
Senate into secession.

Salvete,
English is my second language but I will try to express my feelings for
you. Yesterday we remembered that our material presence can be attacked
but the spirit prevails and takes indestructible roots.
I know this is a site only for the reconstruction of Ancient Rome, but
she lives in us, in our present time, even in the smallest and imperceptible
actions.
Roman values are still breathing in every person every day. They are a deep
continuity in our hearts.
Yesterday I also remembered Varus and the Three Legions.
I would like to share with you a few humble words for them and for all the
free spirits that construct our solid ground:
Together we are all an intense light,
expanded through the largest roads.
More vivid than sculptured stones,
stronger than the ambusher night.
Di vos bene ament.
Valeria Constantinia Iuliana.

Brava! Well written, indeed. Your command of English is firmly in hand. I should like to see
more of you poetry.
In my religious community, we do remember Varus from the other side of the battlefield, but do
Honor he and his men as brave soldiers who did their duty to the last.
This evening I performed a ritual of remembrance for those who died on September 11th.
During ritual, there is a section where we Bless some Drink and share it with the Gods, other
Honored Ones and the People. When the Drink is shared amongst the People, Words which may come
from the Heart or Mind can be spoken, recited or sung. Here is a Horn Boast I made to their
memory:
All of these Folk, carried to Death
Must be thought of, remembered well
I lift Horn to, do this myself
Drink to their Lives, Drink o'er their Deaths
Bright morning sky, over New York
No hint of ill, in Sunna's glow
Silver birds flew, killed towers two
Thousands of lives, snuffed like candles
In Washington, government's home
Warriors' Lodge, five-sided Hall
Sky Wain was steered, into this place
Fiery end, to many lives
Fall-turning woods, harvested fields
Pennsylvania's, calm countryside
Plane struck the ground, journey shortened
Brave passengers, final Trú Deed
And so I drink, in memory
With saddened Heart, in firm resolve
Burden I'll take, Justice I'll make
In my small part, to Them, Wassail!

Salve,
Oops, Manius Villius has introduced another term that
requires "translation"
So here we go,
FreeBSD - An operating System based on the Unix code
developed by the University of California at Berkley.
PostgreSQL - A Database
Apache - A Webserver. It's name is a play on words. So
many software patches were applied to it in it's early
development that's it's A "Patchy" webserver. It's
also the number one webserver in use today.
free software - The Limitations of English cause some
confusion about the term "free software". It refers to
Free as in Freedom, the freedom to see and modify the
source code, not to the price as in "free beer"

Ladonia http://www.ladonia.net/ has had over 3,000

Salve, Luci Sicini Druse.
They interviewed the owner/funder/state secretary today in swedish
radio, he's quite hilarious to listen to. Carefully avoiding actually
stating that it's not a real nation, yet giving the impression that
"It's just for fun, ya know? 'sides, I don't wanna move my statues. Yes,
they are statues. They are too. Are too!"

Salve,
There is some confusion as to whether this downtime will actually be
affecting the Yahoo service as a whole or only in selected areas. An
inquiry has been sent <several days ago> to Yahoo and when a reply is
received a "heads-up" will be given to those it will affect.
