Salve Marcus Octavius Germanicus,

My thanks for your explanation of the situation. From outside the senate
something of this magnitude can be quite alarming if you are not aware of
what is really going on within. I am very relieved to hear that the
discontent and resignations of the Vedii do not spread throughout the
senate.

>From the explanation Flavius Vedius gave on the main list of why he choose
to resign and all the talk of how the "dream is dead" I am quite shocked
that much of this was invoked by only his wife not becoming a senator. It
seems to me as though the interests of the republic are not included in the
reasons Flavius Vedius gave for resigning. This is surprising and is quite
different than what my original impression was.

If this is the only reason for his resignation it's in fact a very minuscule
issue. What a great shame to have lost two dedicated citizens like the Vedii
over something so small. I hope that within the next few weeks they will
realise what they gave up over such a small conflict in interest and see the
error they made in resigning.

Vale,

Salve Magia,

Welcome to Nova Roma! It's great to see such enthusiasm from one who has not
yet been approved for citizenship. I wish you the best here in Nova Roma,
and if you have any questions, or require any assistance please feel free to
ask.

If you want to learn more about latin and the arts I recommend joining the
following lists:

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/ScholaLatina/
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/ForTheMuses/

Here you will find many people who are interested in the same topics. I hope
you find this useful.

I, Gnaeus Salix Galaicus (Alejandro Emilio Carneiro Lopez) do hereby
solemnly swear to uphold the honor of Nova Roma, and to act always in
the best interests of the people and the Senate of Nova Roma.

As a magistrate of Nova Roma, I, Gnaeus Salix Galaicus (Alejandro
Emilio Carneiro Lopez) swear to honor the Gods and Goddesses of Rome
in my public dealings, and to pursue the Roman Virtues in my public
and private life.

I, Gnaeus Salix Galaicus (Alejandro Emilio Carneiro Lopez) swear to
uphold and defend the Religio Romana as the State Religion of Nova
Roma and swear never to act in a way that would threaten its status
as the State Religion.

I, Gnaeus Salix Galaicus (Alejandro Emilio Carneiro Lopez) swear to
protect and defend the Constitution of Nova Roma.

I, Gnaeus Salix Galaicus (Alejandro Emilio Carneiro Lopez) further
swear to fulfill the obligations and responsibilities of the office
of Praeceptor (teacher) of Academia Thules ad Studia Romana Antiqua
et Nova to the best of my abilities.

On my honor as a Citizen of Nova Roma, and in the presence of the
Gods and Goddesses of the Roman people and by their will and favor,

Wonderful! When you apply for priesthood, the Pontificial College looks
for evidence that you already study and practice the Religio Romana, so
that you can be an effective spokeswoman for the Religio and for the
deity of your choice. So please don't wait to get started! There are
some wonderful books listed in the Macellum that will help you learn
more, and the folks on the Religio list can often answer questions or
point you toward useful resources.

Again, welcome!
