I Have to agree with Marcus Cassius' view on our
future. To quote an old song, "The Future's so bright
I have to wear shades"

Some have worried about the disagreements that have
taken place over the past four years. These are a sign
of a healthy organization, not a danger signal. It
shows that our citizens care about our Res Publica. We
are in trouble if new proposals are met with a
disintrested reply of "Whatever" instead of the
spirited debates we have had.

Some of you may be aware that I'm working on creating
Basilica, a Branded version of the Mozilla web browser
for Nova Roma. Mozilla has taken a while to get into
shape, but Version 1.0 is currently slated for release
in April, so we should have our own Web Browser Suite
soon.

I've been thinking about developing aditional software
to promote Nova Roma. We could have things like Nova
Roma themes for Windows and Linux (Don't know if Macs
are themable). In Addition we could have Nova Roma
Screensavers, Skins for Programs like Winamp,
aditional themes for Basilica besides the default
theme it ships with and I'm sure there other
customizations that we could have.

Also Basilica uses lang pacs, so it will be easy to
translate it into any language. I'll be needing help
with this area, so we can offer our Browser in any
language. Latin is a high priorty on my list. This
would make Basilica the only Latin webbrowser.

Is anyone intrested in helping to develope software to
promote Nova Roma?

I would be very glad to help with this. I have no experience
in Mozilla, since I am a Konqueror user, but translating it
to latin seems an excellent idea to me and I certainly could help
in this.

I will look if we can devellop o Roman KDE (Theme and latin)

Subject: [novaroma] Citizen Death - Ianus Minucius Americanus
From: cassius622@aol.com
Date: Thu, 21 Mar 2002 10:56:00 EST
Salvete Omnes,

I am saddened to report the untimely death of a Nova Roma Citizen from the
Nova Britannia Provincia, USA.

Ianus Minucius Americanus, (John Champlin) was 49. He died of complications
from a severe leg infection on Saturday, March 16th. John was a Citizen
since January 8th of 2001, and I believe he was also active in the SCA.
Patricia Cassia and I had the pleasure of meeting him at the Nova Britannia
Provincia gathering last year, and found him to be an interesting and
enthusiastic person. We had several friends in common.

I don't believe that John was active on the main list (too much argument for
him last year) but I do believe he was subscribed to other NR lists and other
Citizens may know him as well.

John considered himself a Roman Pagan, and he also practiced Mithraism
privately as he was a military veteran and into the history of the Roman
Legions. If any Citizens would like to make an offering on his behalf to the
Gods I am sure that he and his family would appreciate it. I shall be doing
so this evening.

My thanks to the Censors for providing information about Ianus Minucius
Americanus' Citizenship, and I regret their sad duty of having to remove him
from the Citizen rolls. Condolences also to his paterfamilias, Marcus
Minucius Audens, Proconsul of Nova Britannia.

His 'official' obituary is below...

I wanted to thank Cassius for this up-lifting post. I
am glad that you started Nova Roma. I have met new
friends that share my interests and have learned much.
I get together quite often with some local Civies we
plan events for Lacus Magni and generally have a good
time.

Thanks again for helping us all come together.

Subject: [novaroma] Sodalitas Militarium
From: MarcusAudens@webtv.net
Date: Thu, 21 Mar 2002 14:16:03 -0500 (EST)
Citizens of Nova Roma;

I invite any new citizens to consider joining the Sodalitas Militarium,
if your interests encompass the Military History of Rome. It is fairly
simple to do; in that all that is required is to ask the Militarium
Benficarius / Scriba Major Pompeia Strabo for permission to enter the
Militarium. If you are a citizen of NR, your name will be immediately
entered in the Militarium, and you will have a vote in the various
questions brought before the Militarium by the Senior Staff. If you are
not yet a Citizen of Nova Roma, and wish to immediately join the
Militarium, you may request such from the Beneficarius and you will be
attached to the "Socci" of the Militarium, without the privelage of a
vote. When any "Socci" attains Citizenship he / she will be shifted to
the regular roles of the Militarium with notification to the
Beneficarius.

If you happen to be interested in Roman Military History and would like
to be a member of the Militarium, but do not wish to join Nova Roma, for
whatever reason, you are welcome to apply to join the "Socci", as well.

The Militarium has few rules except those that follow, since few have
been necessary since the approval of this Sodalitas by the Nova Roma
Senate.

--The discussion here is related to some aspect of the Roman Military;

--Questions are accepted and discussed as application to such is
determined by our membership;

--References are appreciated whether they be Secondary or Primary
Sources;

--Comments contradicting or disagreeing with questions or discussions
from another member of the Sodalitas will be accompanied by a Reference
or documented answer;

--While the purpose of the Sodalitas Militarium is the discussion ond
furthering of the study of Roman Military History, it is fully realized
that the many members of the Militarium have a much varied background
and a variety of educational levels behind them ranging from a beginning
interest in Roman Military History, to a Doctorate in the subject.
Therefore it is incumbent upon all of us to assist each other in
ascertaining the most correct information which is currently available.
To that end the more educated are generally looked to for a provision of
more detailed information over an above thier unsupported word, in the
event of any disagreement.

With that explanation, anyone who may be interested in the Sodalitas
Militarium may contact Beneficarius Pompeia Strabo (see above) and apply
as indicated above.

Respectfully;

Marcus Minucius Audens

Praefectus Castorum -- Sodlitas Militarium -- Nova Roma
