While Museum Replicas is extremely conveniant, I would shy away from
them...their quality is not all that good. Most of their stuff is mass
produced and is lacking in several areas in detail.

Some excellent sources you may wish to look into would be:

Albion Armourers at www.albionarmorers.com. They have excellent weapons and
balteus parts.
La Wren's Nest at http://www.lawrensnest.com. Clothing and additional
weapons/gear. Some good, some bad.
William Stephenson Leather Crafts no website. He has the best caligae I've
seen and most of the re-enaction folks tend to agree. His e-mail is
Uilliam@aol.com.

More sources can be found at Matthew Amt's Legion XX website. URL:
http://www.larp.com/legioxx/.

Good luck and hope this helped.

I have a recommendation for the well-dressed dominus et domina: hie
thyselves to Museum Replicas and type "roman" into their search box. I
have
just received a fine pair of black caligae (2-3 rd Century Roman Boot as
they list it) and I believe it's being phased out of their product
listings,
though there is another Roman shoe listed.

Price, with shipping included, is $71, and there is a limited supply of
black and red shoes. Women need to order one size smaller, and when I
ordered last week (during a brief 10% off sale) the smallest sizes they
  carried were 7.

In addition to footwear, there are tunicae, stolae, and all manner of
weaponry, all of excellent make. Some may be priced beyond the number of
your sestertii, others may give you ideas of what can be made yourself, if
you're crafty. But good footwear is hard to replicate and hard to come by,
so try these on for size, and don't forget the Floralia fashion show
  contest!

Salvete,

I uploaded the first batch of the pics of the Forum
Romanum into the File section of the NR-Italia group
(Folder Roma/Roma-fori)
Those pics have been taken during my trip beginning of
April.
They are displayed in a small format, however I can
send any format if needed.
I hope you will enjoy them...

MANIVS CONSTANTINVS SERAPIO CORNELIO SVLLAE FELICI CONSVLI IVNIORI
OMNIBVSQVE SPD

I was wondering about the assignation of CSI to Patres Familias. I
think that this is a very important thing: a Pater Familias often
makes a hard job for the members of his Gens, so his work has to be
rewarded.
However, I don't know if giving CSI following the number of
citizens in a gens is the better way.
How would it take to obtain a new account, with an e-mail eddress,
to invent a name, a telephone number? A person could "create" a new
citizen in his Gens and obtein the CSI. He could also create more
than one citizen! He would have no problem. In fact in Nova Roma
there are a lot of inactive citizens: would 10 new inactive cives be
a problem?

Yes, Patres Familias have to be rewarded for their excellent work.
However, perhaps it would be better to find an other way.

very respectfully,

VALETE

Salvete Omnes,

We had our monthly ceremony this last Sunday in
Tustin, Ca and I just wanted to let everyone know how
it went.

There were 6 of us in attendance, 5 were Nova Roma
cives (myself, Remus Octavius Porus, Titus Cornelius
Caesar, Maximina Octavia and Publicus Cornelius Scipio
Corvus). We started off with a ritual to Venus and
Roma. Gratias to Pontifex Antonius Gryllus Graecus
for assisting me with the content of the ritual. This
was followed by a Roman-style lunch which consisted of
cheese, olives, dates, figs, bread, polenta casserole,
lentils, asparagus, salad, honeyed wine and flavored
licorice tea. Dessert was a Roman decorated cake.

The first topic of discussion was the founding of
Roma. I read from Livy's The Early History of Rome.
This was followed by a discussion on the Virtue
Firmitas. Porus composed an essay relating this
virtue to Augustus and his life, in particular upon
being named heir to Julius Caesar's estate and the
fateful decision to pursue his inheritance and what
transpired as a result of his firmitas. We then
discussed and chatted about various Gods and Goddesses
and Roma Herself.

We had a wonderful time and everyone left in very high
spirits.

I wish all of you well and may the Gods bless all Nova
Roma cives.

Valete,

Antonia Cornelia Octaviana
Temple of Religio Romana

Salvete Sexte Apolloni et Omnes:

I had a chance to look over the pics today...very nice photographs.
I was particularily drawn to the numbers of cut flowers laid at
Julius Caesar's tomb. Caesar has certainly succeeded in carving his
name in historical immortality.

Thanks for sharing.

Salve Pater et Quirites!

>Look at Thule and my kinsman Fabius. He has a large staff, and they get very

>Why? Because he motivates them to carry out their tasks without it.

Thank You for your kind words! Yes I have a lot of assistants, most
of them receive little reward compared with their outstanding
accomplishments in the Cohors Propraetoris Thules, Cohors Aedilis
(Caeso Fabius Q.) and the Academia Thules ad Studia Antiqua et Nova.
I would say that I am privileged in having got the chance to assemble
a circle of the most outstanding individuals to work in such a broad
field to help the Res Publica grow and Roman culture be spread. I
hope that it is true that some of their accomplishments are due to my
attempts to motivate them and my selection of worthy goals within
Nova Roma

Of course I would prefer to see these skillful and dutiful assistants
being awarded as fairly and justly as possible. I, who became a
Propraetor about 7 months and Senator about 18 months after I became
a citizen, need no more personal glory, my only wish is to serve the
Res Publica and I hope to do so for many years to come in different
positions. For my assistants and others I am sure that it is enough
to serve too.

Still the principle that those who work the most for the Res Publica
should have the most influence is a very sympathetic idea and an idea
that is worth working for. It is fair and everyone can contribute, it
will ultimately continue to make the Res Publica continue to grow.

The thought that influence would be possible to buy is, I am sorry to
say both revolting and sad. Revolting as it will open the door to
those who have money and possibly no love for Rome, sad because the
figures that may slowly carve a power base to themselves within the
Res Publica will not have to prove themselves.

Yes, Rome could use more money! So let those who love Rome donate it
to her without second thoughts, as my assistants have donated their
work to Rome and as hundreds of Quirites have done!

Long live the Res Publica built on the shoulders of those who give
freely of their time and devotion, sources of strength that I am sure
will outdo money!

  Avete Omnes,

I just have a question, I guess of logic...but if you have money but no love for Rome why would you donate money to Nova Roma. I am sorry, but that logic simply doesnt work for me. If I didnt care about Nova Roma, I wouldnt be here....getting 200+ emails a day. If I didnt care about Nova Roma I wouldnt be investing my time and money into NR. The logic that those who have money will just simply throw it in NR without any feeling or regard for Her direction does not make sense.

  Very Respectfully,

  Lucius Cornelius Sulla Felix
