Salvete!

A bit of a warning regarding Williams Stephensen's Leathercrafts – I
ordered (and paid for) a pair of Caliage this past summer. In November I
received and email saying that they would be shipping out to me within a
week. That is the last I heard of them. I never received the caliage and
have not received any reply to the dozen emails I have sent trying to
discover the status of my order. I’m not sure what has happened – but
under the circumstances I cannot recommend using them as a supplier.

That depends on what you are looking for.

Their swords are pretty much second to none, however they do stock some
Deepeka materials. I'm not sure about caligae, but I'm pretty sure that
theirs is Deepeka, that's why I mentioned Williams Stephensen's. While
his
caligae are miliraty, his is a custom leathercrafter and can probably
make
something more appropriate to the civies.

I
  have
just received a fine pair of black caligae (2-3 rd Century Roman

  listings,
though there is another Roman shoe listed.

Price, with shipping included, is $71, and there is a limited supply
of
black and red shoes. Women need to order one size smaller, and when
I
ordered last week (during a brief 10% off sale) the smallest sizes

In addition to footwear, there are tunicae, stolae, and all manner

 Salvete Omnes,
I have to say this was my first formal Roman Ritual at the Temple Religio Romana.
It was such a treat, the ritual was carried out flawlessly by Antonia and Porus. It was quite inspirational and appeared to be very authentic. I know the gods must have been moved as well.
The feast was fit for the gods and Antonia went all out as usual to make all of her guests feel welcome and included.
The recitation from Livy's book regarding the founding of Rome was so appropriate for this day and was very enjoyable. Porus' presentation on Augustus was also especially interesting and well prepared.
I cannot wait until the next ritual especially since the focus is on Jupiter, who is also our special deity in the familia Octavia!
I hope all who can make it will not miss out on these splendid rituals and fellowship meetings, they are truly worthwhile. I am proud to be able to support the Temple as I know the great effort and amount of work Antonia and the other members have put into presenting this great opportunity to honor the gods properly.
See you there!

We had our monthly ceremony this last Sunday in
Tustin, Ca and I just wanted to let everyone know how
it went.

There were 6 of us in attendance, 5 were Nova Roma
cives (myself, Remus Octavius Porus, Titus Cornelius
Caesar, Maximina Octavia and Publicus Cornelius Scipio
Corvus). We started off with a ritual to Venus and
Roma. Gratias to Pontifex Antonius Gryllus Graecus
for assisting me with the content of the ritual. This
was followed by a Roman-style lunch which consisted of
cheese, olives, dates, figs, bread, polenta casserole,
lentils, asparagus, salad, honeyed wine and flavored
licorice tea. Dessert was a Roman decorated cake.

The first topic of discussion was the founding of
Roma. I read from Livy's The Early History of Rome.
This was followed by a discussion on the Virtue
Firmitas. Porus composed an essay relating this
virtue to Augustus and his life, in particular upon
being named heir to Julius Caesar's estate and the
fateful decision to pursue his inheritance and what
transpired as a result of his firmitas. We then
discussed and chatted about various Gods and Goddesses
and Roma Herself.

We had a wonderful time and everyone left in very high
spirits.

I wish all of you well and may the Gods bless all Nova
Roma cives.

Salve Maximina Octavia,

Gratias multas for your very kind words and support.
I am pleased that you so enjoyed the ceremony. Your
company greatly enhanced the event and was greatly
appreciated especially in light of the long journey
from your home to the Temple. Besides being very
knowledgeable you are also a lot of fun! We are
dedicated in our continuing efforts to improve our
ceremonies and hope more cives will join us in
worshiping the Gods and exploring the wonders of Roma.
Many blessings to you.

Vale,

Memorial Day Weekend? I will be in California Inferior accompanying my
girlfriend, but will have plenty of time for meeting SoCal cives while she
hosts a wedding shower (girls only!).
Vale
Gaius Cornelius Ahenobarbus

Salve Gaius Cornelius,

I was just about to post the information for the next
ceremony which will be held on Sunday, May 19 at 1:00.
p.m. I will be out of town on Memorial Day weekend
and am sorry that we will miss your presence at the
next ceremony. As a rule, we do not have ceremonies
on holiday weekends due to scheduling conflicts. I
will post all upcoming events on this list and
hopefully you will be able to attend a future ceremony
very soon. Blessings to you and your girlfriend and I
look forward to meeting with you soon.

Vale,

Antonia Cornelia Octavia

[novaroma] KDE translation to Latin - IV |

Salve,

reporting the progress of the KDE translation:
several people have showed interrest in helping but nobody concretized
this interest.

We really need people to register as devellopers at sourceforge.net
http://sourceforge.net/account/register.php
and then transmit to me their login name in order for me to add them as
devellopers to the kde-i18n-la project.
This is needed in order to gain credibility for this project, even if you don't
want to work much.

Hopping that the main problem was Linux, I looked for tools under MS-Windows:
There is a fine Po-editor (in order to edit directly the line to be translated)
http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=27043
download the poedit118_setup.exe file and run it.

In order to be able to directly upload files to our project account you will
probably need SSH on your Win-PC, you can get it from
http://www.networksimplicity.com/openssh/
And definitively a CVS client, CvsGui seems great
http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=10072&release_id=83299
and get the WinCvs13b8.zip file
For the configuration of those 2 softwares I think Sicinius could help, since
I have little experience with M$-Win.

Another problem that was mentioned in the initial enthusiastic phase of this
project: how to be sure that you are not translating the same lines that others.
The usual solution to this is:
1) You are ready to work
2) Download the desired file
3) Translate some lines
4) Upload it again, even if you modified only a few line(s)

Since I am quite sure that many will not be confident with this sort of team work
I uploaded also very small files which need to be done eventually, translating one
of those you can be confident you are the only one working on it.

Status:
Necessary files:
          Total Todo
kdelibs 2763 1647
desktop 2457 1763
Extra files:
cupsdconf 154 153
katepart 383 383
kmcop 5 5
knotify 8 8
libkscreensaver 4 4
ppdtranslations 2074 2074
kdesdk/kbabel 625 525 (I am only woking on this in order to produce screenshots)
kdebase/kcmioslaveinfo 2 2
kdebase/kcmkwintheme 1 1
kdebase/kcmmidi 2 2
kdebase/libkicker 4 4
kdebase/libtaskbar 1 1
kdebase/lockout 4 4

As you can see some are really very, very small

In order to ensure an uniformity of vocabulary, I set up a latin kdedict
at the following address:
http://michel.net.dhis.org/cgi-bin/kdedict.cgi
Presently the entries are not sorted by Category (they are all in the
Administration category).
As soon as you register at sourceforge I will give you a login/passwd on this kdedict
in order to modify or introduce new entries in this dictionnary.

Vale,

Manius Villius Limitanus

                   Avete Omnes!

The next ceremony for the Temple of Religio Romana
will be held on Sunday, May 19 at 1:00 p.m. in Tustin,
Ca.

The month of May is sacred to Maia, Goddess who is
often associated with the Earth-Goddess Terra. Maia
is also Mother to Mercury, God of trade, abundance and
commerce and son to Jupiter, King of Gods.

In the ancient world May was the month for celebrating
spirituality, fertility and sexuality of the earth,
humans and animals. These were seen as one and were
honored jointly.

Topics of discussion will include:

Jupiter, King of Gods and God of the sky, moon, winds,
rain and thunder. Jupiter is an enigmatic God with
many epithets and was the cornerstone of the Religio
Romana. This is the first in a series of discussions
on the Dii Consentes, the group of twelve Gods
especially honored by the Romans.

The Virtue Auctoritas: "Spiritual Authority" and the
sense of one's social standing, built up through
experience, duty and hard work. The Roman to be
discussed in accordance with this virtue is Marcus
Aurelius, Emperor and Philosopher. We will be
discussing his determination in achieving and
maintaining spiritual and ethical responsibility
towards himself, the Roman Empire and the Gods.

Divination, as discussed by Cicero from his work De
divinatione (On divination). We will discuss and
interpret some of Cicero's thoughts on this subject.

Anyone who is interested in the ancient Roman culture
or ancient cultures is encouraged to join us as this
is an informal setting where all have a chance to
share and learn.

A Roman-style lunch and drinks will be included.

Pax donation

For further information please email:

I hope to see you there!

study and preservation of the ancient Roman culture
and religion."
