DECLARATION OF CANDIDACY
"IANUS MINICIUS SPARSUS FOR QUAESTOR"

Salve cives carissimi Novae Romae:

I, Ianus Minicius Sparsus, Scriba Propraetoris Hispaniae, come before you,
in the presence of the eternal Gods and Goddesses of Rome, to declare my
candidacy for the office of QUAESTOR.

I am 26 years old and I have been a citizen of Nova Roma since October of
2001.

I am running because I want to contribute actively to the future of Nova
Roma and to the expansion of public activity.

As Quaestor I would offer to the people and the Senate of Nova Roma my
working capacity, which the citizens of Hispaniae know very well.

I think that this is my main virtue, because the Quaestura is an office more
technical than political. But the Quaestor resigned was assigned to an
aedilis plebis, and I come with new ideas to define and strengthen the
office of Aedilis Plebis, that I would want to present to T. Apollonius
Cicatrix.

For example, I hope that he wants to adapt to all Nova Roma the Rethorics
Contest that very soon the Provincia Hispania will organize in Spanish. The
idea is mine and I will be the "aedilis certaminis". As an introduction you
have the regulae here:

http://www.geocities.com/nrhispania/certamenrethoricae_en.html

Furthermore I have always been a very consistent and diligent voter in all
the votations and elections and I know that I will be a good Quaestor for
the Res Publica if that is your desire.

I hope you will trust me!.

Valete.

Ianus Minicius Sparsus
Scriba Propraetoris Hispaniae

I would like to support Ianus Minicius Sparsus's candidacy. Since he
arrived to Nova Roma, he has proved to be an extremely capable
individual, and to be able to do a great deal of work.

His refreshing sense of humour is also an asset to be taken into
account :-).

I will certainly vote for him, and I pray you all, Quirites, to
consider the candidacy of this very capable individual under a good
light. I am sure that you will not regret it.

Subject: [novaroma] Quaestor Candidacy of C. Serapio
From: jmath669642reng@webtv.net
Date: Wed, 8 May 2002 04:23:00 -0400 (EDT)
Citizens of Nova Roma;

I write this message in the wake of the announcement of the Quaestor
Candidacy of Praefectus Domus Serapio of the Sodalitas Egressus.

I am very pleased to support fully the Candidacy of this gentleman based
upon his work for the Egressus and for Nova Roma.

I cannot say that I know Mr. Serapio well, since I have never met him
face-to-face, however, I believe that I have some small abiity at the
evaluation of people who are worthy of consideration for new
opportunities.

Mr. Serapo came to me to volunteer his services for the Egressus, and I
offered him the normal position of an acting Praefectus. Since that
time, he has provided me with about 50 pages of reports and sketches of
his travels around the Mediteranean Basin. His work has been extremely
well done, and I have spent some several hours in redraing his sketches
and rewriting his notes in order to make some very interesting stories.
These will be shared over the coming mnth as I recieve them back from
Serapio approving my moderate corrections.

In short he has done a phenominal amount of work for the Egressus in the
short time that he has been with the Sodalitas. Enough, that he is now
the acting Praefectus for North Africa as well as for Eastern Europe.
He has been honored by myself as Praefectus Domus for his extensive
work, and today I have recieved another several pages from him as well.

In addition to the work that he has produced in the history and
archaeology of the Middle East and North Africa, I must tell you that
the bulk of his offerings have been done as spare time activities, while
in the military service of his country.

I am extremely proud to be associated with Master Serapio, and I am very
much impressed by the quality and quantity of his work. If in Nova Roma
we are to consider our new Magistrates on the basis of what they are
likely to accomplish during thier tenure of office, may I humbly
introduce you to a gentleman who has done more for the Sodalitas to whom
he has given his pledge of service than anyone else to date.

I am positive that if elected he will do an excellent job as a Quaestor,
simply because he has done an excellent job so far in every effort that
he has undertaken for Egressus. I urge your strong consideration of a
gentleman who is standing for Quaestor, who has already proven his
ability, drive, and attention to his pledges. I urge your strong
consideration of Manius Constantinius Serapio for Quaestor.

Respectfully;

Dear Gaius,

Thank you for your kind words. Pim Fortuyn's assassination is very troubling. Many people like me, blame the media, who actually encourage harrassment of any right wing politician.
When a politician wants to implement "zero tolerance" as Rudolf Guliani did in NYC, they are immediately labelled a fascist because in Europe much of the crime is committed by North-Africans and Turks who may not even be in Europe legally. This is not racism or fascism at all-- this is trying to clean up the cities that have become unsafe to walk on. Anyway, we'll see what happens.

I share my sympathy for our cives in the Neteherlands. That republic is as
much a model macronation for our times as the Res Publica was a model for
antiqua. It is a shame that they have suffered their first political
assassination. Whatever the message of Mr. Fortuyn, the Netherlands is the
epitome of tolerance and liberty and it is a sad day when his opponents had
to counter with murder instead of reason.

Salvete omnes,

I have found a winery in South of France producing
"archeologic roman wines" such as the Mulsum (honey
wine), the Turriculae (white wine) and the Carenum
(aperitif wine). This domain is built on the remains
of a roman winery. The grapes are grown and the wine
is made and matured accordingly to the roman
tradition. The price is around 10 Euros a bottle,
without the postal charges. They may deliver abroad if
the command is large enough. If you are interested,
please tell me, I will collect your wishes and order.

Franciscus Apulus Caesar Omnibus S.P.D.

As Propraetor Provinciae Italiae and friend, I want support the candidacy of
the Illustrus Manius Constantinus Serapio as Quaestor.
I know Manius from many time and he have shown me a real engament in Nova
Roma as Legatus and Praefectus. He is my alter ego in the Provincia Italia
and I'm sure that our good work in Provincia is of Manius too. He's engaged
daily building an active community in Italy, searching new ways of
reclutment, of found-raising, of projecting, etc.
As person, I can say that he is a true Roman, lover of the Classic Culture,
full of Virtues, honorating the Nation and the Nova Roman Res Publica.
I'm sure, he is the ideal candidate for the Office of Quaestor!!!
Please, follow my suggestion and vote Manisu Constantinus Serapio as

Praefectus Domus Serapio, Interested Citizens of Nova Roma;

You are quite welcome my friend. Yes, I recieved your last reports.
Your notebook, I worked on during the cruise, and I will be sending you
the corrected text for your approval. I have redrawn most of the
sketches to make them a little clearer and will contact the webmistress
in order to get them up on the Egressus.

One other person suggested the Architectural Sodalitas, and I mentioned
to him that The Militarium has a section on Architecture, but he has not
yet responded. I am particularly interested in bridges and bridge
construction in the period, and pursue that area in the Mlitarium. If
you are interested in that aspect of Architecture (bridges, roads,
canals, ports, dams, fortresses, aqueducts, drains / sewers,
foundations, basic structures, surveying and tools) perhaps you should
consider Militarium. I am the founder (Praefectus Castorum) of
Mlitarium, and I am also the Admin. Legate for the Architechtura Section
of Militarium.

I invite you to become a Militarium Member, and work with me in the
Architectura Section of Militarium. Perhaps together, and maybe with
others we can look into creating a Sodalitas devoted entirely to
Architecture.

In order to join, simply send a message to Beneficarius Strabo:

trog99@hotmail.com

to enroll. If you are already a member, that is even better. One of
the basic books that I have on Roman Architecture is:

--"The Roman Engineers", L.A. and J.A. Hamey, Cambrdge University Press,

I consider this book although really little more than a booklet, to be
one of the best basic texts that I have discovered on the subject.

Salve amice.

As a countrymen I could say that Sparsus is the best and all this
things, but I can´t. Just because he is one of the best!!
Hispania is giving many good officers and I hope Sparsus will be one
more of them. He is a hard-working and very stubborn when a date is
set, and this is a great for our province...
Supporting Sparsus is supporting a citizen very implied in Nova Roma,
a citizen who will do his job efficiently, accurately and with a
great ability for success... So I´m not supporting another Hispanici,
I´m supporting Ianus Minicius Sparsus for Quaestor. A clear, clever,
hard working citizen.
I will vote for him, and my feeling is that voting for him is a vote
for a well-done job.

Political murders are indeed really troublesome, especially when they are

AVE AEDILIS PLAEBIS TIBERI APOLLONI CICATRIX

Thank you very much for supporting me in this candidacy!
I think you support is very important. I am happy for the fact that
you would like to work with me (since the elected Quaestor will be
assigned to you).
I can just hope that the citizens of Nova Roma will consider also
this important opionion of Aedilis Plaebis Tiberius Apollonius
Cicatrix, because it is the opinion of the Magistrate the Quaestor
will be assigned to!

AVETE OMNES

I want to thank Propraetor Franciscus Apulus Caesar for supporting
my candidacy as Quaestor.
He wrote very kind words, adding also something I didn't write on my
candidacy-message not to bore readers more than I already did!

So, citizens, here is another person, Franciscus Apulus Caesar,
that I am proud of thanking for his friendship towards me and for the
high opinion he has of me (that is, I can assure you, completely
returned!)
Thank you, optime Propraetor!

Ave,

I watched it also and enjoyed it immensely. Can you
mention a couple of things that you disagreed with?

Vale,

AVE OPTIME SENATOR MARCE MINVCI AVDENS

Thank you for your informations.
I am interested in architecture, but expecially civil and religious
architecture, like bridges, temples, arches, insulae, domus, villae,
Forums, basilicas, etc.
I am not an architect, but one of my dream is to project (not alone!)
a temple or a structure that will be used by novaromans in the future.
I already study the "interior" decorations (frescoes or mosaics) but
now I would like to improve my knowledge of roman architecture, also
with "external" decorations.
I am already a member of the Sodalitas Militarium, and I would be
happy of joing your activity in the Architectura section to extend
this important part of ancient Rome in our Res Publica.

Thank you also for the book: I will try to buy it in the anglosaxson
bookshop of my city or in our big library.

Subject: [novaroma] Support to IANVS MINICIVS SPARSVS candidacy
From: "laietanus" <aiax@inicia.es>
Date: Wed, 08 May 2002 22:32:42 -0000
Saluete amici novaromani

I would like to publicly express my support to the candidacy of Ianus
Minicius Sparsus to the office of Questor. I've got three good
reasons to be confident on him: he is a member of my gens, he is
Hispanus and, besides his regular activity in the provincial forum, I
know him personally. But obviously none of them would be relevant
enough to decide my vote and to disturb you with this message of
endorsement.

We are very fortunate in Hispania indeed; Novaroma has made possible
to congregate here a good number of active, capable and enthusiastic
people, interested in ancient Rome, committed with the aim of
Novaroma and anxious to be involved with the project, to learn more
about our community and to offer their work, their knowledge and
their capacities. Ianus Minicius is one of them. He has been an
active member of our provincial community and participates in the
development of our Provincial administration from its basis.
Reflexive, efficient and skilful, I asked him to be my Scriba after
my appointment and he is at present carrying on his shoulders two
important challenges for us all in Hispania: the Societate Culturale
project and the organisation of our annual provincial gathering in
Augusta Emerita next July.

I'll vote for Ianus Minicius Sparsus because I have had the privilege
to know him and to work with him and I honestly think that people
like Sparsus are very worthy for our community. Of course I'm glad he
is also Hispanus and he is a Minicius too!

Valete bene

Lucius Minicius Laietanus
Propraetor Hispaniae
