Salvete Honoured Censor C. Flavius Diocletionus:

In my reading of the lex governing your actions, concerning
unresponsive gens mater/paterfamilias, I am concluding that you are
acting quite legally and generously with regard to this problem.

You have given three public appeals for gens heads to check and deal
with pending citizen memberships. You have been quite benevolent and
now, you are forced to get 'legal' about it.

It is inappropriate to leave citizens 'stranded' due to lack of
communication by their desired pater/materfamilias.

I am keenly aware that situations occur where a paterfamilias'
computer is broken, one is away for extended times, but these are
situations which can be explained to the Censors...even by a borrowed
library computer. Atleast they know the story, so that no responses
to prospective gentiles can be explained by the Censors to that
applying citizen.

Better still, one can employ a disignate head of the familia if you
feel you have little time, computer access. Or, advise the Censors
that the gens is not open for new citizens at this time. Saves alot
of trouble and discouragement.

I can't imagine anything more disheartening to someone than waiting
indeterminately for citizenship because of weak familial
communications. It is in no way a drawing card for Nova Roma.

I would like to thank the Honoured Censor for his meticulous
attention to this matter. I am sorry that there were not more
responses to your pleas for information you should not have had to
plead for three times.

Bene vale,
Pompeia Cornelia Strabo
Praetor

Salve, Appia Claudia.

Thank you for your notice :-). Unfortunately, I cannot decide about mainlist problems, since this work lays in the jurisdiction of the Curator Sermonem. Pompeia Cornelia Strabo Praetrix mailed about this.

As materfamilias, I suggest that you review your personal profiles page on the NR website from time to time. After logging in, you can review the status of your gens members, including new applicants waiting for approval. To avoid that your gens becomes closed by the Censors after 45 days waiting period, you should do this once a month.

Pater notifications about pending gens members are mailed directly to your email address listed in your profile.

There´s nothing to apologize for. I´ll delete gens Claudia from my list, your gens will be kept open. But I would like to ask you to check your profiles page now aforur pending gens members.

Bene Vale
Caius Flavius Diocletianus
Censor

Salve Caius:

The most likely reason that I have not been accepting members is because I
haven't been getting notification of them. Some time ago, I was required
to
change my e-mail address. I sent two messages to the censores at that time
and one message to whoever it was that was maintaining the NovaRoma page.
Neither answered back nor did they change my e-mail address.

I did not see your message because I haven't been reading the NovaRome list
lately. I apologize for not contacting you earlier.

Vale,

Appia Claudia Indagatrix

Subject: [novaroma] Empty Gentes
From: <3s@hsk-net.de>
Date: Fri, 24 May 2002 02:19:26 -0500 (CDT)
Caius Flavius Diocletianus Censor Quiritibus S.P.D.

Due to the authority given to me by Paragraph IV.A.1.c of the consitution of Nova Roma I declare hereby following gentes closed:

Gens Proba (Gens ID 207)
The only gens member and paterfamilias, Ianus Probus Pannonicus, renounced citizenship some time ago (a date is not remarked in his record) and is no longer citizen of Nova Roma.

Gens Claudia Secunda (Gens ID 85)
The only gens member and materfamilias, Claudia Secunda Castarophea, renounced citizenship some time ago (a date is not remarked in her record) and is no longer citizen of Nova Roma.

Gens Vitalia (Gens ID 270)
The only gens member and paterfamilias, Quintius Vitalis, renounced citizenship some time ago (a date is not remarked in his record) and is no longer citizen of Nova Roma.

All Gentes above have zero members, so the gentes are de facto not existent. Approvals for membership in this gentes cannot be responded because this Gentes have no paterfamilias.

I´ll delete the listed gentes from the Album Gentium after monday, may 27th, by censorial edictum. During that period anyone who has objections to the actions mentioned may post them on the mainlist.

This action is seperate to the yesterday announced actions regarding inactive patres familiae.

To avoid misunderstandings, the Gens Proba is not the Gens Senator Alexander Iulius Caesar Probus Macedonicus belongs to, he´s member of the Gens Iulia Caesaria.

Respectfully
Caius Flavius Diocletianus
Censor

Salvete Omnes:

Welcome to the respublica Nova Roma. If you have any questions along
the way, please do not hesitate to ask :)

Thanks to Consul Marcus Octavius Germanicus, we have an excellent
website, which is also fully equipped with a message board and a
chatroom. There is a section of information for new citizens, and a
section on our Sodalitates (societies of varying interests pertaining
to the Roman way), Academia Thules..in short, our online university
where you may take courses on Ancient Rome from time to time...lots
of neat stuff.

I am looking forward to getting to know you better, through future
correspondence, here and there.

Bene valete,

Hello,

This is my first post on the main list. I am Tiberius Ullerius Faber.
Not too much to say, still picking my way through all of this, trying to
learn what I can before looking too fresh.

Please forgive any lurking, I am learning how the direction of the group
works.

Salvette omnes,
I want to specially praise the goddess Concordia for the new citizenships of Claudius Arminius Cursor and Lucrecia Arminia Cursor, long time friends, who answered the invite to join Nova Roma. I give my personal testimony of their seriousness and wisdom to the public affairs, honouring the surname of Cursor and the gens Arminia.
