That, I'm afraid, is going to have to wait a little while! However, I
hope to have an altar to Minerva set up as an educational display at
Roman Days, with some very basic information on ancient Roman religion.

That's wonderful that you can make it, Audens! Merlinia and Asselina
are splitting cooking duties for the re-enactors, and I'm sure you'll
be able to enjoy some wonderful Roman food.

Looking forward to seeing you!

Oh, I don't think I qualify as "Domina" till I get the degree, do I?
I'm going for a master's in journalism, which is my professional
field. I'd love to study something fun like Roman history, but I just
can't justify spending the money on a degree that won't earn me
something in return.

Salve,

Audens, this is most excellent news! It will be great to see you at Roman
Days, and Maximus as well. :)

I'll see if I can email Merlinia Ambrosia for you about the Roman feast. Does
Maximus wish to attend as well? I'm not sure there is much else for news,
although I imagine you'll get drafted as 'announcer' again since you did such
a great job last year. (Heh, the only reward for good work is *more* work!)

Anyway, I'm very thrilled to hear that more Nova Romans will be attending.
Anyone else out there that is planning to attend last minute?

Valete,

Marcus Cassius Julianus

Salvette,
I am visiting/staying with a Non Nova Roma friend in NYC (the South
Bronx to be exact) the first week in July. I am very willing to try to met up
with anyone who might be available while I am there. I am told he lives quite
close to the Botanical Gardens so that would be the best meeting place.
Please consider it .

Subject: [Nova-Roma] File Upload: Official NR Brochure
From: cassius622@aol.com
Date: Sat, 1 Jun 2002 14:29:00 EDT
Salvete,

The official Nova Roma trifold brochure that has been in use since the
founding of NR has just been uploaded to the "files" section of the new Main
List. Hopefully Citizens in various Provinciae will be able to print it out
so that Nova Roma flyers can be available for events, placing in shops, etc.

The file is a Microsoft Publisher 2000 file. (I believe it will also run on
Publisher 2002.) My apologies for not having been able as yet to do similar
files for other common programs.

The file can be found at:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Nova-Roma/files/NovaRomaTrifold.pub

Or you can go to the Main List URL at:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Nova-Roma/

and click on the "Files" section in the menu to the left side of the screen.

There is only one non-standard font in the Brochure - the title "NOVA ROMA"
on the front cover is in an ancient font that can be found at:
http://fontcraft.com/scriptorium/month.html

Or, more simply, the title can be replaced with good 'ol "Times Roman", a
more standard font.

Sincere thanks to anyone willing to print and distribute this brochure, to
help Nova Roma grow!

Valete,

Marcus Cassius Julianus

First thank you for making the brochure available. I ran into a problem,
however, upon opening it. I did not have two of the fonts used in the
brochure. "Ceasario Demo" and "Casper Open SF" Now I have over 800 distinct
font faces in my library, so I wonder how many other people will have the
same problem? Could you also make those fonts available to download from the
Main List? Or at least indicate were they may be obtained. I know I would be
greatful. Thanks.

Salve,

As mentioned in my previous post, the font "Ceasario Demo" can be
found at: http://fontcraft.com/scriptorium/month.html

I honestly don't know where in the brochure the font "Casper Open SF"
is. I don't have that one on my new computer either, but couldn't
find it to change it to something else.

Frankly, anyone's best bet is to just change the fonts in question
to "Times Roman". The brochure looks perfectly acceptable that way. I
just have the one Roman font in to kind of 'jazz up' the cover, but
it's not a big deal.

Subject: [Nova-Roma] NR Brochure Addendum
From: cassius622@aol.com
Date: Sat, 1 Jun 2002 17:03:58 EDT
Salvete,

I am very pleased to say that Apicius Faunius has been kind enough to edit
the Nova Roma brochure to remove a few content and grammatical errors on my
part.

I have deleted the incorrect file, and uploaded the edited file with the same
name. (The link previously posted will still work.)

I took the liberty of changing that "Caesario Demo" font to "Times Roman"
myself to make everything easier. I still was unable to find that second
font, hopefully anyone downloading it will give the brochure a quick look to
make sure that font doesn't get translated to anything weird by their
computer.

One thing, if anyone can think of a good way to make use of the brochure,
could they post suggestions to the list? So far we've been making them
available at Roman events and putting a few out in bookstores. There are
probably a lot of places this could be made available that haven't been done
yet!

Valete,

Marcus Cassius Julianus

Sincerely, I don't know how many people have this Publisher program.
Wouldn't it be wise to make it available in a more common format, like PDF?

I for one am on Linux, so Microsoft is a de-facto no-no. But even when I
was on Windows 98, 2 months ago, I didn't have this software.

Absolutely! It would be far more useful to have this file in PDF
format at the very least, if not also tranlated into Microsoft Word.
Unfortunately, I don't have the time or knowledge to do either one.
I've done the best I could.

Can anyone out there translate the file into PDF and/or MS Word and
post it in the files section?

Senate Voting Results - meeting 16/mai-24/mai

01 Iunius MMDCCLV

Tribunus Plebis Marcus Arminius Maior Quiritibus SPD

The Senate has finished its latest session, and the
votes have been tallied, as below.
The following 18 Senatores cast votes. They are
referred to below by their initials, and are listed in
alphabetical order by nomen:

Marcus Arminius Maior (MAM)
Patricia Cassia (PC)
Marcus Cassius Julianus (MCJ)
Lucius Cornelius Sulla Felix (LCSF)
Pompeia Cornelia Strabo (PCS)
Lucius Equitius Cincinnatus (LEC)
Caeso Fabius Quintilianus (CFQ)
Quintus Fabius Maximus (QFM)
Caius Flavius Diocletianus (CFD)
Antonius Gryllus Graecus (AGG)
Alexander Iulius Caesar Probus Macedonius (AICPM)
Decius Iunius Palladius Invictus (DIPI)
Titus Labienus Fortunatus (TLF)
Gaius Marius Merullus (CMM)
Marcus Minucius Audens (MMA)
Marcus Octavius Germanicus (MOG)
Lucius Sergius Australicus Obstinatus (LSAO)
Appius Tullius Marcellus Cato (ATMC)

The following Senatores did not vote:

Minervina Iucundia Flavia
Gaius Tullius Triumphius Cicero

Senator Marcus Iunius Iulianus cast their votes after
the end of voting session, and so are not included in
the results.

"UTI ROGAS" indicates a vote in favor of an item,
"ANTIQUO" or "NEGAT" is a vote against, and "ABSTINEO"
is an abstention.

The items for consideration are as follows:

-----

ITEM I: Appointment of Translators

The following citizens have volunteered to serve as
official translators. The Senate is asked to vote YES
or NO on each one to determine whether they shall be
appointed as such.

a. Latin: Claudius Salix Davianus
b. Spanish: Claudius Salix Davianus
c. French: Sextus Apollonius Scipio
d. German: Tiberius Annaeus Otho
e. Portuguese: Lucius Arminius Faustus

sub-items a. to d.:
*PASSED* unanimously. YES, 18; NO, 0; ABSTENTION, 0.
sub-item e.:
*PASSED* YES, 16; NO, 0; ABSTENTION, 2.

MAM UTI ROGAS. I know, more or less, all the
candidates above. L. Arminius Faustus was approved
into my gens last week, and seems to be very active.
PC UTI ROGAS to all candidates, with thanks for
their willingness to help foster understanding in our
multilingual community.
MCJ UTI ROGAS for all of the above translators. It
is pleasing to see people step forward for such a
public service!
LCSF UTI ROGAS.
PCS UTI ROGAS for Latin, Spanish, French, German;
ABSTINEO: Portugese, to wit, Lucius Arminius Faustus.
In all honesty, it would be incorrect for me to render
an opinion on this individual's abilities, as I do not
know him well enough to vote accurately. I know his
Paterfamilias well, but not the filias in question. I
cannot give an objective appraisal. I mean no offense,
but I must be objective and honest in this regard.
LEC UTI ROGAS.
CFQ UTI ROGAS. The only one I don't know is
Honorable Lucius Arminius Faustus. Still I think that
the service of these men is much needed and I think
that we should accept their help warmly.
QFM UTI ROGAS.
CFD UTI ROGAS. I would like to express my heartful
thanks to all volunteers for this demanding and
responsible task.
AGG UTI ROGAS.
AICPM UTI ROGAS. I appreciate their wish to serve the
Res Publica and to take that duty.
DIPI UTI ROGAS.
TLF UTI ROGAS.
CMM UTI ROGAS.
MMA UTI ROGAS, ABSTINEO for "e.". I am not aware of
the capablities of this candidate [L.Arminius], so I
can neither vote for or against him.
MOG UTI ROGAS.
LSAO UTI ROGAS.
ATMC UTI ROGAS.

- The citizens Claudius Salix Davianus, Sextus
Apollonius Scipio, Tiberius Annaeus Otho and Lucius
Arminius Faustus are now official translators.

-----

ITEM II: Appointment of Provincial Governors

a. Australia: Gaius Sentius Bruttius Sura
*PASSED* Unanimously. YES, 18; NO, 0; ABSTENTION, 0.

b. America Medioccidentalis Superior: Sextus
Cornelius Cotta
*PASSED*. YES, 17; NO, 0; ABSTENTION, 1.

MAM UTI ROGAS.
PC UTI ROGAS.
MCJ UTI ROGAS. Bruttius Sura has been an active
Citizen and I believe he will do an excellent job as
Provincial Governor.
LCSF UTI ROGAS.
PCS UTI ROGAS. I have had association with these two
citizens for at least one year. Both are active in
their gens et provincia. I am pleased to be
affilitated with Cornelius Cotta in familiaship, and I
have worked closely in the past with Gaius Sentius in
Militarium, and he has availed himself to me this year
as Praetorial Scriba. I am confident they will both do
honour to Nova Roma as Propraetors.
LEC UTI ROGAS.
CFQ UTI ROGAS for "a."; ABSTINEO for "b.". I know
Honorable Gaius Sentius Bruttius Sura to be a serious
and loyal citizen. I don't know Honorable Sextus
Cornelius Cotta and he hasn't been that
active on the main list, so I can't vote for him. But
still his Pater have only good words for him so I will
not vote against him.
QFM UTI ROGAS. Sentius has demonstrated excellent
leadership abilities and will be a fine Provincial
Praetor (Remember only the Principate had governors);
Another Cornelian [Sex. Cornelius Cotta] enters the
political arena. Lucius Cornelius should be proud.
CFD UTI ROGAS.
AGG UTI ROGAS.
AICPM UTI ROGAS. To my regret I am not fellow with the
candidates. Anyway, since they have been recommended
by Senators, whose opinion I appreciate and trust, I
vote UTI ROGAS/YES.

- Gaius Santius Bruttius Sura is now Propraetor of

Ordinis Equestris Agendis

The full text of this lex is at

*PASSED* unanimously. YES, 18; NO, 0; ABSTENTION, 0.

MAM UTI ROGAS.
PC UTI ROGAS. I hope that as time passes, those who
do this job can come up with a set of guidelines which
we can follow consistently in dealing with Macellum
members.
MCJ UTI ROGAS. The Ordo Equester and Macellum may
well benefit from ongoing attention by elected
officials.
LCSF UTI ROGAS.
PCS UTI ROGAS.
LEC UTI ROGAS.
CFQ UTI ROGAS. I see this change to the Constitution
as a step forward to reconstructing the Res Publica
and one of it most noble offices in one more of its
duties.

ITEM IV: Enact a policy enabling late payment of taxes

Details will be posted separately.

*PASSED* unanimously. YES, 18; NO, 0; ABSTENTION, 0.

MAM UTI ROGAS.
PC UTI ROGAS.
MCJ UTI ROGAS. The goal of taxation is to raise
funds for Nova Roma, and allowing an extention of
payment time will benefit both NR and our Citizens.
LCSF UTI ROGAS.
PCS UTI ROGAS. Now this is a vote for the 'idea in
principle'. I cannot guarantee that I will not have a
comment on any particular future proposals which house
the principle of this item.
LEC UTI ROGAS.
CFQ UTI ROGAS. I have studied this proposal and I
think that it is a real improvement and will gladly
vote for it.
QFM UTI ROGAS. In my plan I had a 4 month pay
period, for this very reason.
CFD UTI ROGAS.
AGG UTI ROGAS.
AICPM UTI ROGAS. Since taxes have been paid by
citizens all over the world, even from countries with
far from perfect bank services, I find the proposed
policy fair and encouraging tax payers.
DIPI UTI ROGAS.
TLF UTI ROGAS.
CMM UTI ROGAS.
MMA UTI ROGAS.
MOG UTI ROGAS.
LSAO UTI ROGAS.
ATMC UTI ROGAS.

- The Senatus agrees that a policy enabling late
payment of taxes is necessary.
