The Apollonia Acta is wonderful! A lovely survey of recent archeological
news on the web. It is always rewarding to see non archaeologists take an
interest in archaeological research. Having just come back from a 2 week
trip to Italy and Greece where archaeology gets some really good funding and
excavated sites are tourist traps it gives me warm fuzzies all over to see
an interest in archaeology. For those of us who struggled through grad
school living on no doz and cheap pizza it almost makes it all worth it!
Keep up the good work and you might want to add a bibliography of recently
published hard copy articles as many written sources can be read at public
and Universtiy libraries which are open to the public.

Salve Luicius Salix,
My husband and I just returned from a 2 week vacation to Italy and Greece
and Rome is amazing, trust me! A few suggestions for your trip:
The Domus Aurea is VERY cool and has practically NO annoying tourists. They
limit the number of people in each group visiting it so go early in the day
to get a reservation and tickets. The audio tour is worth paying extra for.
No photos allowed.
The forum is fabulous as well but go in the afternoon, as tour groups make
the rounds in the mornings.
I wasn't able to make it to the Palatine but I have heard it is terrific as
well.
A restaurant you definately MUST go to is Magna Roma which has superb food
authentically prepared from ancient Roman texts. They even have special
reproduction Roman spoons with sharp ends as the only dining implement. The
food is fantastic!! They have a website at www.magnaroma.com. It comes up in
Italian but you can click on English for an English version. The website
gives their location and hours. They can also email you directions.
In the suburbs in Ostia Antica, the ancient ruins of the port of Ostia,
which is aupposed to be fabulous, however it was closed due to a strike when
we tried to go there. I bought a book of photos of it but it is MUCH cooler
to go there in person.

Caeso Fabius Quintilianus has been experiencing problems with yahoo
recently. A new column has appeared in his settings, labelled "post".
