Salvete Quirites!

I will disappear today 09.30 Roman time as I will go 900 km to the
south to show my Saluki hounds at a two Dog shows and to visit my
daughter for a week.

After that I will be home again for a week. Then I will go to "The
Nova Roman Rally of 2755 in Europe" in Belgium.

I will be back at the 14th of August and hope to start to work more
intensively with the Academia, the "Sodalitas Iuventutis Romanae"
(SIR), my Provincia, the Ludi Romani, my Cohors Aedilis and with
getting back on all list at Yahoo. Besides that there still is a lot
to do to get my phones and my Internet connection (it is working, but
there are problems) in order.

I guess that this will have to be done mostly from the beginning of
September, as I must start my work as a teacher in August. What I am
saying is - that I am as devoted as ever to Nova Roma, but I have
lost a lot of time and I hope that everyone will understand and give
me a chance to catch up.;-)

Salve Illstra Pompeia Cornelia Strabo!

Thank You very much! Yes I have had quite a rough time, but I am
slowly coming back! I am very sorry that I missed the latest Senate
meeting, but that is how life is, I guess

Have You received my mail where I am saying that I am not receiving
any mails from the Nova Roma main list. I have written to Illustrus
Marcus Octavius Germanicus about it, but if You could please
coordinate maybe the problem will be solved.

I have changed my e-mail address to christer.edling@telia.com, but if
You want to post to me the old address tjalens.h@telia.com appears
here at the Nova Romamain list. I have done all I can from my end (I
think), but nothing happens. Most of the e-mail lists at Yahoo that I
am a member of or that I own functions, but not all, it seems as if
there is some problem with those lists were I am not the owner or
moderator.

Salve,
Radio Talk Show Host Neal Boortz(www.boortz.com)
has a quote from Julius Caesar on his webpage. It says:

"Beware the leader who bangs the drums of war in order to whip the citizenry
into a patriotic fervor, for patriotism is indeed a double-edged sword. It
both emboldens the blood, just as it narrows the mind. And when the drums of
war have reached a fever pitch and the blood boils with hate and the mind
has closed, the leader will have no need in seizing the rights of the
citizenry. Rather, the citizenry, infused with fear and blinded by
patriotism, will offer up all of their rights unto the leader and gladly so.
How do I know? For this is what I have done. And I am Caesar." - - Julius

In the Lex Iunia de Iusiurando, the final paragraph has the
phrase "by their will and favor." I am confused about *whose* will
and favor is being invoked. Is it the will and favor of the Roman
people OR the will and favor of the Gods and Goddesses of the Roman
people OR a combination of the deities and the people?

Just curious :-) But would someone be willing to explain it to me? I

development of Nova Roma in general and in Central Europe, ancient

meet our guest on unformal and friendly get-together evening meeting.
Tomorrow we are planning with Senator Diocletianus to visit Carnuntum

News of the Academia reminds me:

I recently applied graduate school in my professional field, journalism.
The University of Missouri, where I will study, has a very highly
respected program in my field, and has begun offering a master's degree
online, so that I may study without leaving my job in Maine.

Applicants to the program had to answer essay questions to prove their
writing ability and knowledge of the field. One of the questions was
this:

"You have been named “Minister of Information” for your native country.
The Minister of Information is the person in charge of developing
political, social and economic policies that will foster communication
of all sorts both within your country and between your country and the
rest of the world. What will be your top priority? Why?"

Instead of writing a serious response, I began "Oddly enough, I've done
this," and briefly described my tenure as Nova Roma's first list
moderator (the title Curatrix Sermonis hadn't been bestowed yet). I then
wrote a speech to the Senate in character as if I had just been elected
to the job.

I was admitted to the program and start classes in a month. So it may be
said that service to Nova Roma helped me get ahead in my career!

Salvete,

Another portuguese translation, the VIº, this time the CURSUS HONORUM page of our Website in the Collis Capitolinis.

The html version is available at my office: http://geocities.yahoo.com.br/lafaustus/trad/cursus.html

Cursus Honorum
