Salvete Quirites.

The pannonian-germanian meeting was a pleasure, and a success. Indeed, it is always fine to meet personally.

I invited Alexander Probus, who currently visits his moesian homeland, and Caius Marcius Coriolanus to Germania for the roman days in Aalen in September.

Pompeia, perhaps we have the opportunity to meet one day. Some of my wife´s relatives live in Canada (Regina and Calgary). Her cousin and his wife visited us in July, and perhaps we will visit them in Canada one day.

Salvete omnes Quirites,

Sorry to barge in, on this communication, but I saw, that Dio did not yet
answer to this mail and since I will be there as well, I thought, that I
could answer your question just as well as the honored Censor.

>Could you tell me when exactly in September will be held the Roman days?

The Roman days in Aalen will take place on Saturday and Sunday 28th and
29th of September. They take place in and around the 'Limesmuseum', where
there is the excavation of the castrum of the 'Ala II Flavia', which was
stationed there.

I hope, that many of you can make the trip. This is one of the two biggest
and most important Roman events in Europe. It takes place every second year
and the Swiss group 'Cives Rauraci et Vicani Vindonissenses' takes part
in it for the 4th or 5th time. For more information on our Swiss group,
in which I am a member, see:

Taking up an old matter, and thanks to the exemplary record-keeping
of Marcus Ariminius Minor, I have just updated the Tabularium. The
complete list of Nova Roma leges, enacted by either the comitia
centuriata, comitia populi tributa, or comitia plebis tributa, are
now available at:

This probably would have happened sooner, had I not been on nearly

Salvete Quirites,

Well, even though Cicatrix and I only came to join the rest of the Europeans for a day, we had *lots* of fun, even though we'd missed our first train ;o). Luckily, Cicatrix had a map of the town and so we were able to find our comrades.

-- C. Fabius Quintilianus: I was impressed by your rhetoric qualities, and your radiant personality. Indeed you look much livelier in real life than in the picture on the album! I found it enjoyable discussing about politics and culture with you, and hope to repeat this next year in Italia. The dean of my faculty (with his wife in the backyard, remember) is still probably your evil twin though ;o).

-- D. Apollonia Aventina: Well, if there's one word that could describe you it must be energy. Are you sure there's no flame hovering above your head? It was good to be able to talk about the virtues and vices of organising things, and I hope you enjoyed our discussions as much as I did. And your Dutch is better than you give yourself credit for.

-- S. Apollonius Scipio: Indeed I was impressed by your "romanised" family. I think that Gallia can accomplish great things with your vision and leadership qualities. I'm sure that your son would make an excellent Roman soldier, even if only on sheer enthousiasm in stopping the great Cicatrix (armed with an umbrella) with a wooden sword. I liked the pictures, by the way.

-- C. Curius Saturninus & E. Curia Finnica: Without your assistance, I'm sure the meeting would have never been so smoothly arranged. Emilia, thanks for the lovely certificate! You two made a modest, friendly impression on me. And I couldn't understand a word of Finnish ;o). You'll have to learn me the basics some time, despite the 15 cases.

-- M. Constantinius Serapio: The funny man with the tunica :o). We might have to talk in Latin some day, who knows. I should once again congratulate you (and your propraetor) in rendering Italia much more active, and indeed, you were about the closest thing to a Roman in Belgica we had there.

-- L. Salix Cicero: You braved the Belgian beers and followed my choice of food, and survived. For that I must commend you ;o). You certainly have the virtue of abundantia, and I hope that I can still take you up that offer to get to London sometime. It was a pleasure to meet you in Belgica.

Well, despite the guide in the museum being rather strange in his English, and the displayed painting being "The Fury of the Goths" (instead of Eburones, as the museum tries to make the innoncent visitors believe), I do think all of us had a blast. Thanks!

Valete bene,
Marcus Octavius Solaris

<g> You are too kind, domina, but all I did was the HTML coding. M.
Ariminius did the heavy lifting by hunting down all the missing
leges - no small matter! - and by tabulating all the details. None of
this is accomplished in a vacuum, thankfully, for keeping track of
the many documents, actions, etc. is a challenge indeed!

Julila, I really dont want to be harsh, but this is a email of an

noticed a header of Multilanguage index? The translators will become
very upset taking it off in all uploads. Please, put it back on that

What can I say? I will certainly try to be there on the next European

Salve,

I really dont want to be harsh, but This is an email of an angry
scriba with blood in the eyes taked by the Furies. Have you noticed a
header of Multilanguage index? As that:

<!-- LANGUAGE -->

Oh, Gods! The translators will be very displeased by forgetting that!
Please, someone give me a Valium or cloropromazin on the neck!

Don't worry about it; I can fix it in five minutes.

Julilla Sempronia, I thank you for updating the Tabularium; it is almost always
behind the times, as it is very tedious work.

Vale, Octavius.

Salve,

What I refered myself was that the portuguese version of the leges
page are now linkless

http://www.novaroma.org/tabularium/leges/index.html.pt

When someone give a upload on a page that has translations on-line as
that of the tabularium, please contact the Decuria of Interpreters
(novaroma-decuria_interpreters@yahoogroups.com) to the translator
redo the text, if necessary. On that case, I, the translator, should
be contacted to my work not be linkless as is now. We are now on new
and glorious multilanguage times of the Nova Roma site, and must pay
keen atention to not waste the work of the others.

I´m more calm now. All in name of Concordia.

Salve, Octavius Germanicus

No, no problem. It was only my hot blood turning me around. We must
all praise Sempronia to have uploaded the Tabularium. She did a noble
work, everyone must agree, we have few with such initiative... Only
the people must pay atention to the the language links. This occasion
has not diminished any friendship that I feel about anyone on NR.

Pax deorum!

Salvete omnia,

Ira furor brevis est, I really don´t know why the disgusting
Yahoogroups have repeated my angry messages so many times. I think I
pressed the send button many times, so furious I was.

Homeric talking, Let´s consider it as the wrath of Achilles, that
inumerable woes brought to the achaians...

Should I change my name to Furius Arminius Faustus? (What a beautiful
aliteration!). Maybe never! :)

Vale bene in pacem deorum

---Salve Arminius:

:) :) :)

Might a suggest a chalice of Falernian, perhaps "Faustan" Falernian
in lieu of a neck injections of Valium or Chlorpromazine?

Besides, you would invariably be injecting these potent potions right
into a major bloodvessel, and I fear you would be asleep for days.
Not to mention that such a procedure, due to the blood pressure and
volume of these vessels, might make the overall experience very messy!

Do you have a wife, a mother, a maid, amicus? Well, if you do this,
you may find that they have selfemancipated...rendering you in an
even worse predicament....alas....ahhhhh....you will have to clean it
up yourself...no, ((((((NO))))))!!!!

And further.... Nova Roma has no health plan yet!

Not even for translators and Tabularium workers!!! :)

Shut off the computer, have a wine *a* wine, and or perhaps go see
some really dorky movie, like Austin Powers.

Thanks for all you do, and you are entitled to have a snitfit once in
a while, like the rest of us.

Bene vale,
Pompeia

Subject: [Nova-Roma] Late Roman chess piece?
From: "=?iso-8859-1?q?A.=20Hirtius=20Helveticus?=" <hirtius75ch@yahoo.de>
Date: Wed, 14 Aug 2002 01:37:53 +0200 (CEST)
Salvete quirites,

I just saw the last glimpse of a short report on CNN,
where they showed a chess piece - or something that
looked like that - made out of ebony found in a late
Roman site in Albania (approx. 4-5th century AD). Did
anyone see the whole thing or does anyone know more
about that discovery?

As far as I know, scholars say, that chess was
introduced to Europe in the 12th century, originating
from china. So this could be quite a sensational
finding!

Valete bene,
