Salve Antonia,

I was not sure if you were refering to this message board or another
list for the Magni Festival. No matter; I would like to be one of the
first to welcome you to Nova Roma and this list. There is so much to
do and so many sub directories of interest. You can spend a few days
surfing through the site and pick up much information on ancient Rome
and Nova Roma. If you have any questions about this website, Nova
Roma or Ancient Rome please do not hesitate to post them here. There
are many people with expertise who are always glad to be of help.

Yours Respectfully,

Subject: [Nova-Roma] SCANDAL!!!!!!!!!!!

Salvete omnes,

This race is a scandal!!! I demand that the person responsible is found
and tried for attempted murder!!!! As an athlete (track and fields) I am
used to fairplay and demand as much from my companions!!!!

>GROUP III

>1st: Volatilis
>2nd: Basilea (sabotage!)
>3th: Accident!
>4th: Fulminatora
>
>GOES IN FINAL: Volatilis

>This it has been a very strange and suspicious race. The whole people

>the fight was not so much. Volatilis took advantage from the first

>humiliating the two red chariots. It seemed a green race completely.
>But, oh Gods, suddenly the helm of the chariot Basilea breaks and its

>horrifying depilation in all the body. The green fans
>shout "Sabotage, Sabotage!" and then they throw an elephant on the

>The elephant, very angry, uses the driver of Ius Sanguinis as
>toothpick. It has been really a strange race!
>Volatilis is the winner and the driver of Fulminatora cry his bad

Even though I was approached by many people from different factiones to
be bribed or to sabotage another factio or chariot, I decided to stay clean.
As an athlete in the worldfamous Greek sports of longjump (6,60m) and highjump
(2,00m), I know the business and I am used to fairplay!!!!

Find the man behind the scene and try him for attempted murder. My driver
will survive the accident and will be back in the next race!!!! And I tell
you: I WILL NOT TOLERATE ANY DIRTY PLAY!!!! ;-)

Antonia Octavia Americana;

As Scriba Paulinus has indicated, there is much to do in Nova Roma, and
many paths to walk. As I have said to many others, write a story, tell
a joke, give a book report, join or start a Sodalitas, if you are
interested in service, there are many openings available in your
Provincia and in the established Sodalitas.

Look through the archives of this list and you will find various
invitations to new members, including some from myself for suggestions
as to what and where to seek out your favorite pastimes and indulgences.
In order for us to know you we must know something about you -- your
likes and dislikes, your interests and your hobbies. Perhaps even your
dreams and the time that you have to spend here. Obviously someone who
is devoted to embroidery will not be geatly interested in Roman Weapon
Usage or military reenactment (Grin!!!!!!).

--The Sodalitas Militarium;

--The Sodalitas Egressus;

--NR Land Project;

--Legion XX, XXIV and VI;

--Academia Thule;

are just a few of the interests here in Nova Roma that I have the honor
to be involved in as well as being a Magistrate and having some small
interest in the political activities of NR. If any of these above
items strike your fancy I invite you to contact me. If not, welcome to
Nova Roma anyway, and enjoy yourself.

Respectfully;

Finance: "Argentarius" (f.Argentaria) or "Praefectus Pecuniae"
Research: "Investigator"
Construction: "Aedificator" (f. Aedificatrix) is the person who only
build; "Structor" (f. Structrix) is the person who plan, design and
build.

Censores Lucius Equitius Cincinnatus et Caius Flavius Diocletianus Quiritibus Novae Romae SPD

Rullianus has behaved in an uncivilized way, threatening and insulting many citizens. He has made action totally antithesis to the stated goals of Nova Roma. Furthermore, he threatened one citizen with revenge and murder.

This Nota is sufficient to deprive that individual of the right to vote until such time as it is removed.

This Nota is effective for a period of six month.

Salvete Omnes,

I am currently studying the second Punic war and the campaign in
sicily in particular. After much research about Syracusae in books
and over the net, however, I have to admit that I haven't found a lot
on this city apart from a few interesting paragraphs in Livy and
Polybius.
Could anyone recommand some readings or sites where I could find city
maps, description of Hiero and Hyeronimus' governements and their
dealings with Carthage ? Any political analysis or strategic overview
on the area will also be welcome.

I thank you all for the help you can offer me...

Salvete omnes.
In Buenos Aires we are enjoying an excellent argentine musical
called "Caligula, A New Musical", script and lyrics by Pepe Cibrian
Campoy, and music by Angel Mahler.
I must say I enjoyed it thouroughly. Caligula's character is
brilliantly performed by the extraordinary actor Damián Iglesias.
During the performance I really felt it was the Caligula I ever
imagined. Among the characters were Caligula's sister Drusila and
also his killer .
This really gorgeous show is performed for 10 weeks. I chose to
watch this musical on my birthday (last Saturday). So I finished
enjoying happily my birthday... enjoying Caligula!!.
If by chance any novaroman is travelling to Buenos Aires within the
next few weeks, please do not miss it, even if you don't speak
Spanish, you'll enjoy the music, and its mise en scčne as well.

A. Octavius Serenus;

One of the reasons that I like Peter Connolly to he degree that I do is
because of the inclusion of excellent maps, diagrams, and drawings which
make the text leap out of the page at you, and define many of the
problems considerations and concerns which plagued decision makers
during the period of the ancient world about whic he writes.

"Greece and Rome At War," Peter Connolly, Greenhill Books--London /
Stackpole Books--Mechanicsburg, PA, 1998, pp. 143 to 207

is an interesting summary of the Punic Wars with detailed topographical
maps as well as some spectacular photograghs as well as detailed
drawings of Punic Wars. Used in combination with Primary Sources, it
makes the wars come alive and also portrays the archaelogical findings
in weapons, armor and reconstructions of those who fought in the wars.

Others in Nova Roma have not been so impressed with Mr. Connolly, but I
find this reference work and others to be both very instructive and
fascinating and if read with Primary Sources (taking into account the
variations told by ancient authors about these wars -- which differences
are also remarked upon by Mr. Connolly), the overall result, I believe,
is a very good and accurate picture of what happened during those
campaigns.

Respectfully;

Marcus Minucius Audens
