Salvete!
This is from Legio II Augusta list, and might interest some folks.
vale bene,

Avete
There's going to be a
ROMAN MILITARY MUSTER
Hosted by Legio IX Hispana.
A five day event in April 2004. Exact dates to be announced in about a
week.
Held in Santee, California, USA (Adjacent to San Diego)
We're building a marching camp we're the brave and intrepid can camp
on site.
We're looking into providing tents and tent space but you are
certainly welcome to bring your own.
There will be a bread oven and we'll also have ground fires.
We'll have a missile range (arrows, slings, pilum, artillery)
The site is on the San Diego River so bring your boat.
There are huge fields for drills and battles.
There will be merchants of Roman gear; we're planning a mini military
conference; working on special rates at nearby hotels; we're
negotiating special shipping rates so you can send out your bulky
gear; we're planning family events such as trips to the San Diego Zoo
and Sea World; travel to and from the San Diego Airport.
Stay tuned for more info

Salvete!
First I'll quickly answer Q Fabius: I have no
problem answering Tiberius publicly. As I've
often said, an elected magistrate has to expect
to be under a microscope now and then and I am no
different! So ask away :-)
>Are you or are you not running in >this years
elections for Consul.
I would love to be the first female Consul in
Roman history, since I am the first female
Tribune :-) That said, during the last month or
so a few citizens have told me that they heard
that I was running or Consul next year, which was
news to me :-). Anyway, I don't want to say "No
absolutely not" but I certainly doubt it. But I
can definitely confirm that I will be running for
*something* in the elections of 2757.
Right now I am concentrating on the position that
I have been elected to for *this* year: Tribune.
Until I complete a few of the projects that I am
currently working on, i.e.: a few new legislative
proposals,the completion of the Tribunes
Handbook, & the reopening of a few discussions
that we've had in the past etc. I don't think
that it is correct to set my sights on something
higher. First I need to prove myself to the
citizens that I am a "worker" and not dead weight
with a fancy title. And since female magistrates
are a rare breed in NR, I feel that I have more
to prove than a male magistrate.
>A simple softball question that I >promised I

> keep to my self and I said you

AND YOU WON'T.
LOL! Thanks for setting my mind at ease!
Vale,
Diana Moravia

G. Iulius Scaurus S.P.D.
Avete, Quirites.
Here's a link to "Aphrodisias":
http://www.nyu.edu/projects/aphrodisias/
This site provides an account of the excavation of the Roman city of
Aphrodisias in Caria (in the Maeander River basin, roughly 100 miles
southeast of Izmir in Turkey) undertaken by New York Univ. and Oxford
Univ. The site includes a history of the excavations, detailed maps,
and photographs of the excavations and artifacts. While inhabited
from the sixth century BCE, Aphrodisias became a leading centre for
the cult of Aphrodite under the patronage of Augustus and was famed
for the quality of its marble sculptures, a number of which decorated
Hadrian's villa at Tivoli. The site has also been particularly
valuable for study of the imperial cult in the east.
