Citizens of Nova Roma;

I greet you most humbly and wish to beg of you your indulgence to pass
on this information which may be of some small interest to you:

Legion VI from upper New York is being reactivated. Legion Vi was
started some years ago by Commander Casca, but when 9/11 occured he was
one of the first to be called into active military service. Due to his
sudden departure and the nature of his service he left no-one with
directions to continue the Legio during his absence.

Recently Commander Casca has been in communication with me and some of
the other members of his organization, and has taken steps to again
bring Legio VI to an operational mltary activity. I have been honored
to be chosen as one of the Commander's assistant's in this effort.

Legio VI will recruit members from the regio of upstate Nova York in the
provincia MediAtlantia and all regios of the provincia Nova Britannia.

Legio VI, by copy of this message, respectfully alerts the ProPraetors
of these provinces to it's new life, and makes the recommendation to
them, very respectfully, to consider appointing a Military Praefect for
thier Provinces. If a Miitary Provincial Praefectus has already been
appointed, it is requested that Legio VI be appraised of that apointment
in order to make periodic reports of te Legio's work and activities.

Legio VI will specialize in working with the "Ludi Maximus Gladitori" in
guarding that Ludi and attending the Gladiators both in the training
areas and in the arena, as the Sumna Pallas of the Ludi may request.
Thier efforts in preparing themselves for the defence of the frontiers
of the Empire will also be a major factor of thier endeavors.

Legio VI will entertain the enrollment of Legionaries, Miles Immunes,
and Auxila, as well as "camp followers," subject to the Legio VI
requirements of uniforming, arms and accoutrements. If anyone in Nova
Roma has an interest in joining Legio VI from the areas above indicated,
or from other areas as the individual shall determine within his /her
ability to attend future activities, you may contact myself for more
information.

Respectfully;

Marcus Minucius Audens;
Tribunus Militum Laticlavius Architecturas
Legio VI
First Cohort, First Century

By Direction of the Legio Commander

Fair Winds and Following Seas!!!

The Corinth Computer Project involves a computerized architectural and
topographical survey of the Roman colony of Corinth, conducted by a
team from the Univ. of Pennsylvania and its Museum of Archaeology and
Anthropology under the direction of David Gilman Romano,
reconstructing the city plan with computer models. The site provides
an exemplar of the value of computerised modelling in archaeology with
technical discussions of methodology, detailed maps and 3-D imaging
(including a Quick-Time movie of the forum of Roman Corinth as it is
today), and a bibliography.

Greetings fellow citizens

Back before the beginning of time (read: before the list had to be re-created last year) there was a discussion about producing wallpapers and screensavers along a Nova Roman theme.

Did anything happen with this? I would like to get some Nova-Roman artwork for my PC screen.

Thankyou and I shall crawl back into my hole now....

Salvete,

Ok, after spending the best part of a month in
NYC, I am finally heading home to Gallia where
both my cat and my young man anxiously await me
:-).

I gave a few of you at Roman Days my USA
cellphone number. Please note that that number
will be disconnected on Monday and I'll be back
on my usual European GSM number.

Valete!

It's Saturday, June 14th. That makes it Flag Day in the US, since
it was on this date in 1777 that the US adopted the Stars and Stripes
as its national flag. It's also the anniversary of the Battle of
Bannockburn, in Scotland, in 1314. Apropos to Nova Roma, it's the
anniversary of the date in 1951 that the first UNIVAC computer was
announced, marking a step along the road that eventually led to
the Internet and personal computers.

On our religious calendar it's the second day of Quinquatrus.
http://www.novaroma.org/calendar/junius2.html#quinquatrus

Tomorrow is the last day of Quinquatrus and is also the festival
of Vesta clauditur, when dirt was swept from temple of Vesta and
the temple then closed. Is that what you were thinking of?

Subject: [Nova-Roma] Nova Roma and Cafe Press
From: "M Flavius Aurelius" <marcus.flavius@bigpond.com>

In October last, there was a brief discussion about selling NR merchandise through CafePress.com
Essentially, for those who do not recall it, someone mentioned the CafePress idea, and it was pointed out that the amount of revenue that Nova Roma would get is minimal, and CafePress make the lions share of the cash.
But the fact is that there are CafePress 'shops' set up selling Nova Roman produce, and I for one would like to buy. As I am in the process of setting up a house, having lost most of my possessions, I like the idea of an organisation I belong to (in this case Nova Roma) getting at least some of the cut when I purchase items.
Are these shops regulated? I gather there are at least copyright issues around using the SPQR and gold laurel symbol.

Can I recommend that some rules be drafted - along the lines of what percentage of profits should go to NR where the group's symbols are used? So that whoever is selling this stuff can legitimise their operation, and expand the choices of products available. And if the operators of such shops can contact me, I'd like to gossip about the logistics of the service, and how they've found using it.

For anyone who is interested, the current products are able to be viewed at www.cafeshops.com/novaromaeagle

Ave M. Flavius,
I brought up the topic of Cafe Press last year. I thought it looked like
a good idea but,
most of the comments about Cafe Press were
not encourging. And it was not pursued any
further. I still think it sounds like a good idea
though.

Salve Tiberi,

The festival of Jupiter Invictus which started yesterday; the lesser
Quinquatrus that is taking place from June 13 - 15, a festival of
guild flute players who were important in religious ceremonies.

Salve,

Many thanks for your input. Your method sound easy enough that I
can probably do it myself without cutting off more than two or three
fingers, or sewing myself to the fabric. ;-)

I left your original message full length in case someone interested
missed it when you sent it.
