Sodalitas Militarium

Nova Romans devoted to the study of the Roman military

Since the Nova Roma Constitution forbids acquisition of lands and peoples by warfare and conquest, this Sodalitas concentrates on the aspects of the study of making war, and devotes itself to the cataloging and modeling of the great Military Forces that were Rome as well as the history of those forces.

The Sodalitas Militarium is loosely organized into interest groups, with goals chosen by members who research, study, build models, recreate military equipment, and pursue many other aspects of Military Study. The Sodalitas Militarium encourages members to develop bibliographies
and similar reference lists to promote further study.

The following areas are available for immediate involvement and study:

Naval Warfare, Shipbuilding, and Tactics (models / dioramas);
Legions Cataloguing, Tactics, Organization, etc.;
Consul's Guard, Suitability for Nova Roma, Uniforms, Duties, Weapons, Drill, Composition, Organization;
Artillery, Catapults, all forms used by the Legions (models / dioramas);
Engineering / Cartography, maps, drawings models, dioramas;
Legion Camps and Forts, models, dioramas, diagrams, drawings, etc.;

The purpose of the study groups will be the study, presentation , and modeling of their particular efforts with submittals to the Militarium newsletter (The Pilum), NR Newsletter (the Eagle), and any other newsletters that are open to us, as well as periodic opportunities to display our research and modeling in various military shows and displays wherever NovaRomans gather. We also invite discussion on any other matter touchingon the Roman military organizations.

While membership in the Sodalitas Militarium is intended primarily for citizens of Nova Roma, the Sodalitas also offers Socii (associates) status to those over 18 years of age who are not, or not yet, citizens. This is your Military Organization, Citizens! One of the strong foundations of the Republic and later the Empire was the ability of the military to expand the frontiers of Rome.
