VIBIA GENS, plebeian. No Romans of this name are mentioned till the latter end of the republic ; but we meet with several persons of the name among the Italian nations in the second Punic war. [See below, vibius, Nos. 1, 2 ; vibius virrius.] The first of the gens, who obtained the consulship, was C. Vibius Pansa in b. c. 43 ; and several Vibii appear in the Consular Fasti under the empire. Two of the Roman em­perors, trebonianus gallus and volusianus, bore the name of Vibius. The coins of the Vibia gens have on them the surnames of Pansa and Varus.
