Social structure of Nova Roma

Homo novus or novus homo ("new man", new member of the nobiltas) is a person who held the consulship first in the history of his family. The descendants of a homo novus are nobiles. In Nova Roma, we consider family not only the direct genetical lineage of a citizen, but also those ancient Romans who belonged to a family indicated by the same nomen and cognomen combination.
