D. Iunius Silanus became a citizen of Nova Roma {{Jul 4}} {{2001}}.  He soon established himself in public life and was appointed governor of Britannia {{Feb 27}} {{2002}}.<ref>[http://www.novaroma.org/tabularium/senate/2002-02-27-results.html The ''senatus consultum'']; [http://www.novaroma.org/forum/mainlist/2002/2002-02-28.html#M0007 his acceptance].</ref>  He was elected ''[[quaestor (Nova Roma)|quaestor]]'' {{Dec 24}} that year,<ref>[http://www.novaroma.org/tabularium/results/2002-12-24.html The results].</ref> and was elevated to the [[senate (Nova Roma)|senate]] by ''censores'' {{Dec 30}} the following year.<ref>[http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Nova-Roma/message/18879 The ''edictum''].</ref>  He ran unsuccessfully for the ''[[Praetor (Nova Roma)|praetura]]'' {{2003}}.<ref>[http://www.novaroma.org/tabularium/results/cent-2003-12-24.html The results of the election].</ref>

In public affairs he was a proponent of close adherence to Roman practice<ref>[http://www.novaroma.org/forum/mainlist/2003/2003-05-19.html#M0013 An example of his views].</ref> and was associated with the group which called itself the ''[[boni (Nova Roma)|boni]]'', in particular his ''gentilis'' [[Decius Iunius Palladius Invictus (Nova Roma)|Dec. Iunius Palladius Invictus]].  He was largely supportive of the higher magistrates {{2002}} but largely opposed those of the following year.

He became less active in public life over the course of the year {{2004}}, stepping down as governor {{Jun 1}}, and left Nova Roma {{Mar 14}} {{2005}}.
