The overseas territories of '''Puerto Rico''' and '''Virgin Islands''' belong under the administration of this umbrella province, as well. '''The name of the province''' "America Cismississipiana" means "'''America on the hither side of the Mississippi'''" (from the perspective of Rome), as opposed to America Transmississippiana, "America over the Mississippi", and it reflects the typical Roman practice of naming larger administrative territories based on their relative position to rivers, mountains etc. Previously, there existed another Provincia America Cismississippiana of Nova Roma in a different location (USA States of Illinois and Indiana) between {{Oct 24}} {{2013}} and {{Oct 7}} {{2020}}, but it was never functional, and finally it was dissolved and merged into Provincia Lacus Magni, and the current America Cismississippiana is not a successor of the previous America Cismississippiana that existed before {{2020}}. The current province of America Cismississippiana is '''the successor of the former province of [[Provincia America Austrorientalis (Nova Roma)|America Austrorientalis]]''', one of the original provinces that existed from the founding year of Nova Roma to {{2013}}. The current province of America Cismississippiana was recently created in {{Oct 7}} {{2020}} under the ''[[senatus consultum de provinciis ordinandis]]'', by a merger of the previous Provincia Carolina, Provincia Georgia Florida, Provincia America Mississippiensis and the State of Tennessee part of the former Provincia America Transappalachiana. These provinces were merged under the name "Provincia America Cismississippiana" due to their inactivity, and for the purpose of more effective administration. The senate intends Provincia America Cismississippiana to serve as an umbrella province, with the hope that it will be soon divided to smaller provinces as activity arises in its various territories. Provincia America Cismississippiana is the same territory as the original Provincia America Austrorientalis of Nova Roma before {{Oct 24}} {{2013}}, minus the states of Louisiana and Arkansas, which now have become part of Provincia America Transmississippiana. ==Administration== For administrative purposes, the provincia is intended to be divided into '''''[[Regio (Nova Roma)|regiones]]''''', geographically corresponding to modern USA states, if there will be sufficient civic activity within the area.
